The Teachers House
The Teachers House
Cottage Features
The Teachers House is a lovingly restored timber worker's home, offering a serene escape where heritage meets unparalleled comfort. The spacious bedroom features a luxurious king-size bed and a cozy fireplace. The most unique feature is a deep-soaking bathtub perfectly positioned in the lounge room, allowing you to relax while enjoying the mesmerising glow of the fireplace. The house also includes a spacious kitchen for culinary adventures and a combined living and dining area. A refreshing shower in the well-appointed bathroom offers another opportunity to rejuvenate.
Building History
This is one of just six original, lovingly restored timber worker homes in the historic Old Saw Mill Town of Brooman. It was once home to the area's last teacher. The house is crafted entirely from local timber, showcasing original floorboards, weatherboards, and beautiful Coachwood architraves. Only original, recycled, or locally sourced native timber was used, creating an authentic and warm ambiance.
Off-Grid Living
The property is completely off-grid and powered by a central solar system with underground 240V power. Water comes from the pristine rain, collected and stored in charming galvanised iron tanks. A gas water heater provides instant hot water for your comfort.
Brooman Features
The old town site is set opposite a large bend in the Clyde River. The deep water extends for nearly a kilometre upstream, making it a great place for canoeing, fishing for Bass, Platypus watching, or simply listening to the dozens of unique and beautiful endemic bird species of this area. There is a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos that typically comes out at dusk. You may also spot Red-Necked Wallabies, Bandicoots, micro bats, blue-tongued lizards, and Possums. The buildings date back to the late 1800s to early 1900s, once supporting a thriving community of up to 200 people. Brooman had a post office, school, dance hall, mechanics building, galley, general store, phone exchange, and cottages like this one.

We have ensured your comfort with quality linens and fluffy towels, adding a touch of luxury to your rustic retreat.
âż Enhanced Wheelchair Accessibility Disclosure for Teacher's House
We are committed to making our home accessible and comfortable for all guests. Here are the specific details regarding wheelchair access:
General Access & Entry
Entry: The front entry features a wheelchair ramp providing single-level access into the home.
Door Width: Wheelchairs up to 75 cm (29.5 inches) wide will comfortably fit through the main entrance and internal doorways.
Peace of Mind: Please note that the home's pathways and doorways have been tested using actual wheelchairs (not just measured) to ensure accurate accessibility information.
Bedroom & Sleeping Area
Bed Assistance: Should you require the use of a bed assistance lift, we are happy to move the king-size bed upon request to create the necessary space beside it.
Lift Provision: We do not provide assistance lifts; you will be required to Bring Your Own (BYO).
Restroom & Shower Access
Shower: The shower is large and walk-in style, and a standard wheelchair up to 75 cm wide will fit inside the shower space itself.
Bathroom Space: Please be aware that the overall bathroom space is tight for manoeuvring a 75 cm wide chair, although the shower area is spacious.
Commode Use: A standard 75 cm wide wheelchair may be challenging to manoeuvre within the tight bathroom confines for commode use, so guests may prefer a smaller commode chair.
We are happy to answer any questions whatsoever to ensure your visit is smooth and comfortable. Please do not hesitate to ask if you require any further clarification or assistance before your arrival.
