Access Denied: Barking Dogs, Hidden Stairs, and a Quick Exit

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The listing paints a peaceful picture, but the reality was far from it. The property is well outside Port Macquarie’s city centre, nestled in a residential area—great for some, but not what we expected. That supposed tranquillity was quickly disrupted by the relentless barking of a neighbouring dog.The shared, steep & narrow driveway led to a garage without a remote, creating an extra layer of hassle. The remote was not included with the keys collected from the 24 hour Ampol nor was one at the property. According to the agent, the remote was at the office which was not helpful given the office was closed and we were already at the property. The biggest issue, however, was accessibility. While the photos suggest a single-storey layout, a set of stairs—only visible in the final image—greeted us on arrival via the front door. With a debilitating back injury, this made the home completely unsuitable, forcing us to seek alternative accommodation.I take some responsibility for not calling to confirm, but key accessibility information should be clearly stated in the listing—not buried in one photo. It’s a critical omission for anyone with mobility limitations.The cleaning fee was refunded but the agent informed us the owner declined further compensation, not that we expected a full refund. The reasoning was that the 4 day stay was off the back of a long weekend (Monday afternoon check in, Thursday morning check out).A disappointing experience overall. Future guests would do well to read between the lines—and the photos.
