Located oceanside in the community of Monteray Shores, your family will love this home's proximity to great shopping, grocery stores, and entertainment. It's just a short walk or drive to the beach. Don't feel like going to the beach? Take a dip in the oversized private pool or enjoy a starry night in the hot tub. Whatever your pleasure, A Mermaid's Tale is not to be missed! Monteray Shores offers some great community amenities, summer activities, and a clubhouse with a pool and tennis courts.

Ground Level: This floor offers entrance to the home, where you will also find the laundry area. Outside is a totally gated private pool, hot tub, and outside shower.

Mid Level: This level features a lovely main bedroom with a queen bed and deck access. Another main bedroom room with a queen bed includes deck access and shared a hall bathroom with a bunk room. The bunk room features a twin-over-twin bunk.

Top Level: This level features a spacious great room with a TV and DVD player, gas fireplace, and deck access through a sliding glass door. A nicely equipped kitchen has bar seating for three guests and a separate dining area. You will also find the main bedroom with a king bed with deck access through a sliding door. Rounding out this home is a half bath off the great room.

Amenities: Guests can enjoy an oversized private 16-foot by 32-foot unheated Pool, a gated pool, hot tub, multiple TVs, a gas fireplace, gas grill, WiFi, a hammock swing, and a sunny and shaded deck space.

Guests can enjoy an outside pool, wading pool, a kid’s playroom, four shared tennis courts, basketball courts, fitness center, and a multi-use trail for biking and walking.

For January and February bookings, please contact the property management company to ensure the hot tub is available.
This property is managed by Vacasa North Carolina LLC
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically.
Fireplaces are available November 1st through April 1st.
Private Pool Dates: The private pool is open May 1st through October 15th. The private pool is unavailable outside of these dates.

Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.

Due to local laws or HOA requirements, guests must be at least 25 years of age to book. Guests under 25 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of the reservation.

Great OBX Rental

What an amazing week my family had! Pool and hot tub were exactly what we were looking for. Wonderful there was a bike that we could use too! Highly recommend, would stay here again!

Great house!

We had a great time. My granddaughters especially. They felt welcomed and enjoyed every part of the home. It was close to the beach and to fun attractions. Next time we will stay longer. The only issue was that the coffee caraf was missing and for these coffee drinkers that was devastating.

Family vacation OBX

We had a wonderful time! The house was great. There was plenty of room for our entire family. Everyone had their own space and bathroom. Plus we had great times hanging out at the pool and hot tub! We would stay here again!

Relaxing

The location was very nice. The home and pool were great for our need. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies. We were not smarter than the tv and someone came and solved the problem quickly and efficiently.

Beautiful Home

This home is beautiful and located close to so many things!! The pool and hot tub were great and all the bedrooms and bathrooms totally accommodated my family. Just wish the cleaners would have done a more detailed clean. Some areas were missed but over all enjoyed every piece of the home!!!

3 generations get away

House was very clean when we arrived. Very light and bright house with an awesome outdoor pool area- pool is huge and the seating areas poolside and the quality of the outdoor furniture was great! New flooring throughout looked fantastic and is so much better than carpet. So many deck seating options, we all found our own quiet little spot when we wanted to. My only suggestion for the owners is a new mattress for the king bed or at the least a pillow top pad added to the current mattress and maybe set up the living room furniture a little more conducive for 6-8 people to comfortably watch a movie at night. Great location! We would stay again.

A Mermaid’s Tale

A beautiful home with room for all of us, to enjoy our family vacation! The pool was a hit with the grandkids, (parents and grandparents , too)! The hot tub was as slow to heat up and required a service call, but we still had time to enjoy it. The oven didn’t work, but wasn’t too much of an inconvenience.. we grilled several meals, outside! The patio furniture gave everyone a chance to unwind and relax. The beach wagon came in handy, on our trips to the beach. All in all, we had a wonderful time together, and made many memories at the Mermaid’s Tale. 🧜‍♀️ Thanks to the homeowners, Vacasa staff and service people, too!

Beautiful home

The house itself is stunning and had so much space for two families with small kids. There were plenty of bath towels, extra blankets and pillows. The one thing that really bugged us is that there were no cleaning supplies. We had to buy paper towels, cleaning spray, hand soap, trash bags, and Clorox wipes. The home has been upgraded since the photos were taken to also accommodate extra beds within the home and it was large enough that we didn’t feel both families were on top of each other and we had our own space. There was all necessary beach equipment outside (shade pop ups, toys, boogie boards, a wagon, chairs, etc.) which gave us a peace of mind since we didn’t go crazy when packing those supplies.

Just Needs a Little TLC

Vacasa didn’t clean this house as well as others we’ve stayed in. Microwave & oven didn’t work. No sharp knives or non-stick pans. Master bed was uncomfortably hard, as were the pillows. We found softer pillows in the closet. The hot tub was great. Too cold to use the pool. You can’t see the ocean from the house. Corolla was nice though.

The house was a beautiful home and was the perfect size for 6 adults and 2 young children. The furniture was large enough for us all to sit down and have dinner at the same table. The pool was a perfect amenity with its large size. The AIr conditioning unit was very efficient and kept the house at a very comfortable temperature. The only drawback was the microwave door not staying shut but was happy with the quick attention given to us to provide a loaner microwave and then a repairman. We would have liked to have had the house vacuumed better than what it was when we got there, but we dealt with that. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience there and would recommend it to others.

This house was great!

This house was as great as it looks! It had everything we needed for our stay and plenty of room for our family to hang out. The pool is awesome and we all loved it! The decks have “hang out” areas everywhere that we all loved! We timed the walk to the beach, it’s an 8 minute walk at a good clip. The issues we had were with cleanliness. The owners would benefit from checking behind the housekeepers or changing companies. They didn’t vacuum, the master toilet had visible gunk under the rim, there was leftover hair and spots on the mirror in the master bathroom. My son pulled two handfuls of hair from the bathtub drain in his bathroom and had rocks an his floor. When we stripped the beds for checkout my daughter remarked that she questioned the cleanliness of the bed she had been sleeping on all week. They also haven’t dusted in quite a while. So, we LOVED the house and our stay but the housekeepers should be checked behind.

A Mermaid's Tale Stay

I had high hopes for our stay at A Mermaid's Tale, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. Let's start with the positives. The outdoor area was fantastic! The spacious pool area with Edison bulb lighting and comfortable seating was perfect for relaxing both day and night. While we brought our own floats, there was a storage bin filled with floats and noodles available for use. The outdoor grill was also convenient for cooking. Just a heads up, be prepared for ants and flies in the area, so make sure to cover your food and drinks. The neighborhood was charming and peaceful, and the newly added beach access was a pleasant surprise. The covered decking made the short 3-block walk to the beach effortless. Please note that the fourth bedroom, shown as a couch in the pictures, actually contains a twin-over-twin bunk bed and a pull-out twin trundle. It's important to mention that the bunk bed is not suitable for adults. Now, onto the areas that could be improved. The cleanliness of the property left something to be desired, with remnants of old food in the couch and hairs in the bathrooms. The biggest issue we encountered was with the oven. Despite our efforts to cook meals each night, the stove failed to reach or maintain the proper temperature. This issue persisted throughout our stay, and despite reporting it, no solution was provided. This made it impossible for us to utilize the oven for cooking despite having purchased $100s in groceries for that purpose. Overall, A Mermaid's Tale requires some attention and maintenance. With some care and improvements, this property has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay.

Overall a wonderful week… with a few hiccups

The Pool and outside areas were hands down the nicest we have ever had!! Our family enjoyed the top deck and comfortable outside furniture every night!! The pool was absolutely AMAZING!!

Family vacation at the Mermaid's Tale

Yesterday, we had to return home from our family vacation at Mermaid's Tale. The backyard was perfect with the pool and hot tub that had a great combination of sun and shade. We had fun building puzzles on rainy nights. Loved having 3 1/2 bathrooms - no one was fighting over who was showering first. Kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and cookware. There was plenty of outdoor furniture to pick from and in different locations of the deck and pool area. When I had to contact the home owner about the pool, she was very friendly and quick to respond. I also found the house to be in a nice quiet area and wasn't a far walk to the beach access, but we chose the 5 minute drive to Bonito St beach access so that we would be near a life guard.

Gorgeous house- A Mermaid’s Tale

GREAT time!!

We had a great time at Mermaid's Tale! 4 adults and 2 kiddos under 2 -- loved the pool, the adults loved the hot tub after the kiddos went to bed! The house was so great, kitchen was well stocked. And great access to the beach...loved the easiness of the brand new access that led us straight to the beach. And THANK YOU for having a beach cart at the house which made that walk even easier! :)

Great house in a great location

This is a wonderful house to rent. The layout is very comfortable and the open floor plan upstairs let us spend time as a family while preparing rooms. The house is stocked better than any house I ever rented, especially with stuff for the beach. There were chairs, boogie boards, toys, an umbrella, bikes, etc. I’ve never seen a house offer so many extras. It will definitely save me some room with packing next year. The pool is huge, the biggest I’ve ever seen at a rental home. Plenty of pool toys as well. The hot tub was right by the pool, and the backyard was very private. It was like our own private oasis. The location is fantastic. We always look for houses in Monterey Shores because of the extra amenities. This house is also on the ocean side of route 12, so we could walk to the beach in less than 10 minutes. The house is a little bit worn down due to it being a rental near the ocean, but nothing out of the ordinary. The cover for the hot tub was inoperable. I tried putting it on once, but it resulted in styrofoam beads falling into the tub. I think the swimming pool has a leak because the water level was a few inches too low. The low water level may have caused the filter to reach inefficient as I had to clean out debris each morning. The water temperature was perfectly fine for me. Overall, I loved this house. I already made a reservation to return next year.

Mermaid’s Tale Vacation-May 3021

Positives: Close to the beach. Close to shops and restaurants. Clean. Quiet neighborhood. Large pool. Hot tub. Areas of Improvement: a heated pool would be a positive. We had an unusually cool and rainy week and use of a heated pool would have been great. Hot tub is nice but base and cover are worn. It was very difficult to figure out how to use TVs in the home (for the rainy days). Table by pool had broken umbrella, Rusty chairs, and not in good shape.
