CRIME AND SAFETY;
***Many travelers are unfamiliar with Eleuthera and often ask, "How safe is the island?" We are happy to say it is extremely safe with zero violent crime against tourists. On a very rare occasion you have petty theft and nothing more. You can book your stay knowing you will be in a safe area on a safe island even for single female travelers who stay with us all the time.

GENERAL INFORMATION;
We have been Premier Hosts with VRBO/HomeAway since 2016 with hundreds of 5 star reviews averaging 4.9 stars out of 5.0 for our many properties we own and/or manage on VRBO/HomeAway alone. PLus many thousands of reviews online overall. Buttonwood Cottage is in fact owned by the same family that own and rent Sea Spray Cottage, a 5 star rental with VRBO/HomeAway, right on the same compound and was recognized as one of the "Most Unique Rentals in the World" by VRBO in 2020. If this cottage is booked during your desired dates we have 2 other equally fabulous cottages on the same property that are most likely available...so just ask. We offer 10% off weekly rentals and 20% off monthly rentals.

OUR LOCATION;
Buttonwood Cottage is an air conditioned cottage with cable TV located in Hatchet Bay, also known as Alice Town. The central location is perfect for exploring both north and south on the island and near some the top attractions such as; The Glass Window Bridge, The Hatchet Bay Caves, The Queen's Baths, The Cove Resort, The Cliffs at Rainbow Bay and on and on. In addition some of the islands best beaches, bars and restaurants are all located very close by. In fact you can walk to many of them right from the cottage, including going to church and walking to the grocery store right in town. Hatchet Bay is a local island town not a tourist trap. The people are warm and friendly and it is very safe. Warning Eleuthera is not for all travelers. Some people coming here are expecting Atlantis in Nassau or Miami Beach. This is not the case. The island is quiet with no McDonalds or Starbucks, but has world class beauty around every turn and we prefer it that way!

OUR 2 ACRE PROPERTY;
Buttonwood Cottage is part of a larger property called 7 Gables. There a few cottages and a main house. Everyone has their own space and privacy and a parking spot. The family that owns it all live right their locally and can assist with anything you need. The grounds have some walking trails and nice flowering shrubs and grassy areas along with colorful flowering Bougainvilla and an outside stone island made grill for charcoal use.

THE COTTAGE;
Buttonwood Cottage is an original classic Bahamian cottage that was just recently renovated in the fall of 2020 by one the island's best builders. His dad, also a builder, built it originally and he then renovated after about 30 years. It has all new flooring, a new kitchen, freshly painted, decorated and a large private deck hanging over he ocean. The interior is about open and bright with ocean views. It is comprised of a studio style bedroom/sleeping area with a queen bed, a small, but full kitchen and a full bath with a shower (no tub), a small eating area with table and 2 chairs. You can even see the ocean while lying in bed! There is a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and plenty of kitchen utensils for cooking small meals. Note the fridge and stove are tucked on either end of the kitchen area so it is a bit tight to access them, but they do function. The owner is planning on making some improvements to that soon. Overall it is an open and bright space for a small cottage. There is a brand new large outdoor deck overlooking the ocean which is a dreamy space for chilling out in the morning with your coffee or in the later afternoon with a tropical drink. It has chairs and tables for outdoor al-fresco dining if you wish. There are also two chaise lounges. There is a nice flat screen TV with cable. We have free Wi-Fi both inside the cottage and on the property grounds.

THIS RENTAL IS BASICALLY FOR TWO PEOPLE, WITH AN EXCEPTION; We list it allowing for three people because a couple with a small child may be OK sleeping in the queen bed with three people. Again this is not a rental for three adults. - Thanks! Also if you have a small child it is one level so there are no stairs inside the cottage, but our deck has horizontal slats not vertical on the deck rails so be aware of that for your little ones, see the photos.

ELEUTHERA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE;
If Miami Beach or Montego Bay is your thing we respectfully suggest you pick a different destination. Eleuthera is a sleepy island with some flaws; bad roads, dated infrastructure, more frequent than back home power / water / internet outages, geckos sometimes will be in a home and painfully slow service at certain places. We say this because every year we get a guest that complains about the island and that is clearly the case of a guest going to the wrong destination for their vacation. Eleuthera is not a 5 star resort island where fake people wait on you hand and foot just for a big tip. In Eleuthera people are genuine, helpful and kind. The crime is very low unlike the rest of the Caribbean. It is unspoiled and gorgeous and mostly empty going back back 75 years in time. We know it well and have been there over 100 times and have many long-term Bahamian relationships. You will explore the most stunning beaches you have ever seen and have them usually all to yourself. We love what it has to offer, but we are not the Miami Beach or Las Vegas type of the traveler either.

Overall for the value this is a fantastic option for those on a budget. Most hotels on the island start over $150 per night for a room with no ocean views and no kitchen. If you have any further questions please message us and we will respond. Thanks for you interest in Buttonwood Cottage!
