Makai Hideaway Ă€r tyst och fridfullt. Varva ner och koppla av frĂ„n stadslivet. Huset Ă€r en en timme söder om Kona och en timme tio minuter söder om Kona flygplatsen. Det Ă€r en timme tio minuter till vulkanen frĂ„n huset. shoppa innan du kommer som nĂ€rmaste mataffĂ€r Ă€r 25 minuter bort. Tre sovrum och gameroom med flera sĂ€ngar, tre bad, Vi Ă€r pĂ„ ett vackert lĂ€ge med enastĂ„ende havsutsikt och nĂ€rliggande vattensporter! Nedstigning en asfalterad vĂ€g 12 minuter till huset frĂ„n milmarkör 89 och njut av vad jag tror Ă€r den bĂ€sta utsikten pĂ„ ön !. En stor Lanai löper lĂ€ngs huset för delfiner och valsafari. Ät middag pĂ„ en vacker 600 fot Lanai och titta pĂ„ de otroliga solnedgĂ„ngarna och njut av kustbrisen. Det finns mĂ„nga fans i huset men det finns inte luftkonditionering. GĂ„ ett och ett halvt kvarter till tillgĂ„ng till vatten för simning, snorkling, kajakpaddling, dykning och fiske. Det Ă€r ocksĂ„ bra att gĂ„ runt i nĂ€rheten. Bedwise, det finns en king size-sĂ€ng i mĂ€staren och tre queen sĂ€ngar i huset och en drottning bĂ€ddsoffa plus en futon. Det finns en uppsĂ€ttning vĂ„ningssĂ€ngar och en luftmadrass kan placeras i sovrum i första vĂ„ningen. Det finns en drottning utfĂ€llbar madrass i leksakskĂ„pet. Det finns ocksĂ„ en havsutsikt frĂ„n köket och du kan sitta i soffan och se havet. Gameroom nere har pingis, air hockey och litet biljardbord. SolnedgĂ„ngar Ă€r fenomenal och olika varje natt. Det finns en grill pĂ„ övre dĂ€ck. Första vĂ„ningen master Ă€r det största sovrummet i huset och du kan höra vĂ„gorna stora dĂ€rifrĂ„n pĂ„ natten. Det finns en king size-sĂ€ng i övervĂ„ningen mĂ€staren! Det finns en tvĂ€ttmaskin och torktumlare i spelrummet och extra litet kylskĂ„p med tiki bar. NĂ€rmaste mataffĂ€r Ă€r 25 minuter bort sĂ„ mĂ„nga resenĂ€rer slutar pĂ„ Costco som det Ă€r av Kona flygplats pĂ„ vĂ€gen ner. Det finns en stormarknad vid mil markör 77 och bensinstation ocksĂ„. Huset Ă€r en bra timme tio söder om flygplatsen vid mil markör 89. Utsikt över Stilla havet Ă€r sensationella och jag blir aldrig provat pĂ„ eftersom jag hĂ€rstammar frĂ„n 1200 fot till havet. VĂ€nligen spara pĂ„ vatten och el som Hawaii har nationerna bĂ€sta priser. Det finns en trevlig havsbrisen ofta pĂ„ huset men det finns inte AC i huset inte heller de flesta husĂ€gare i Hawaii har det. Vi sĂ„g en sköldpadda storleken pĂ„ en volkswagon utanför en av klipporna i omrĂ„det och snorkling vid simning hĂ„let Ă€r stor! Den simning hĂ„l Ă€r en tvĂ„ minuters promenad bort-gĂ„ till Kai gatan och svĂ€ng höger. HĂ€r sĂ€tter du kajakerna eller tar dem in i byn Milolii. Det finns internet och Netflix sĂ„ TV Ă€r stor! Min favorit sak lĂ€ser en bok pĂ„ schĂ€slong pĂ„ dĂ€ck eller gĂ„ ned till simning hĂ„let för att simma och snorkel. Nedre vĂ„ningen i garderoben Ă€r allt du nĂ„gonsin behöver - kylare, strandmattor, strandleksaker, snorkelmasker och utrustning, flytvĂ€star, stolar. Skölj av allt du lĂ„nar och lĂ€gg tillbaka. Utanför i den stora plastlĂ„da finns boogiebrĂ€dorna.

Milolii-omrÄdet Àr kÀnt för djuphavsfiske, och du kan titta pÄ fiskebÄtarna eller gÄ ut sjÀlv. Den vackra avskilda Honomolino Beach ligger i nÀrheten, kort promenad lÀngs kusten frÄn Milolii State Park-titta pÄ spinner delfiner, snorkla med fisken i korall, och kanske se en havssköldpadda eller en sÀllsynt Hawaiian munksÀlen.

FrÄn Kona flygplats gÄ söderut pÄ riksvÀg 11 mot Kailua och fortsÀtt vidare mot 89 mil markör, svÀng höger pÄ Milolii Road. GÄ omkring tre miles, svÀng höger in pÄ Ewalu Avenue köra pÄ vÀgen till Waenea Avenue svÀng vÀnster. Kör till tredje korsningen som Àr Elima Avenue, svÀng höger och gÄ ett halvt kvarter till en solbrÀnna hus vÀnstra sida som Àr 88 till 1.555.


FrÄn Hilo flygplats gÄ pÄ riksvÀg 11 norrut i cirka tvÄ timmar tills du kommer till skylten som lÀser Milolii. SvÀng vÀnster vid skylt enheten tre miles pÄ vÀgen till Ewalu Avenue, svÀng höger köra ner till stoppskylt till Waenea Avenue svÀng vÀnster. Kör till den tredje korsningen och svÀng höger pÄ Elima Avenue. GÄ ett halvt kvarter till en solbrÀnna hus vÀnster sida av vÀgen som Àr 88-1555. Beautiful location! Plenty of room

This is a beautiful place. Plenty of room for our family. 3rd bedroom does have a separate entrance but, it was fine for our older kids! Beautiful drive to get there and beautiful views. It is a drive from bigger areas but, we travelled most of the island so it was kinda in the middle. Would definitely stay there again

Wonderful remote property on the island

Once you know that there aren’t many sand beaches on the island this property really shines. There’s a local swimming/fishing hole within easy walk, and then it’s central to exploring the other attractions around Kona and Volcanoes

Best Month of our Lives

With a long sabbatical from work, we wanted someplace that would feel like home on the big island and we sure found it here. Enough space for our 4 adults and 3 kids, with games to play at night. We used the supplies to fish and swim and snorkel at the nearby swimming hole almost every day and/or took chairs/coolers/boogie boards to the beach. The house was perfect! And if we needed anything, Cheryl was super responsive. I’m so glad we picked this house and our stay was everything we could have hoped for.

Comfortable house for relaxing

This house is exactly as described. Room for 8 (if 2 are thin and short or are children). The host is very communicative and helpful. The check in and check out process is very easy. There are games in the basement and the host has a whole shed of snorkels, fins, chairs, beach equipment, etc. Really great if you've come from far and obviously couldn't pack your own.Why this house might not be for you: it is rural. If you want to go to Kona it's 1 to 1 1/2 hours away. Volcanoes NPS is about 2 hours away. If you are looking for restaurants or activities, you will be doing a lot of driving. Except for a few beaches, most of them are a drive too because you're on a mountain...it's a slow, curvy ride everywhere.If you are a nervous driver or get carsick, this is not for you. The road is steeped and very curvy. My family doesn't get sick...until our last day. But it was fun to see the mongooses and wild pigs in the road. If you like long, hot showers, this is not for you. There is little water in this area...you can't drill a well into volcanic rock and there's no public water. So you are taking short showers as the host requests. Also, I don't think I ever had a HOT shower. Even if I insisted on taking a 2-minute shower before my kids, the water would get warm (I always describe it as "llama spit") but never hot.

Beautiful Home with everything you need

The property has everything you could hope for. Space, plenty of sleeping arrangements, toys and things you might need for your trip, beautiful views from a gorgeous porch, and one of the most helpful and gracious BnB hosts I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Book this place, you'll love it.

Host is wonderful, house was great for a family, location could’ve been better

This was our first visit to the Big Island and we stayed for 10 days. We had a blast! Cheryl was a wonderful host. She lives on the property, which is nice because she’s close by if anything comes up and she has great suggestions on stuff to do nearby. But she was very respectful of our privacy and we only saw her if we sought her out. The house was perfect for our family with four young children. It’s very lived in and not so nice that I was stressed out all the time about my kids being kids, but clean and plenty of room for all of us to have space. However, several appliances in the kitchen were broken, like the juicer and toaster. The grill wasn’t working when we were there either. But the deck is a lovely place to have family meals, and Cheryl was so thoughtful and accommodating for our family’s needs. She left us a high chair, a pac-and-play, and a little cosleeper—all very much appreciated! The only drawback to this house was the location—if this is your first time visiting, do your research! Getting to this house off the main highway took about 15-20 minutes on a very steep and winding road. We went out adventuring everyday and the kids were carsick before we even hit the highway. It’s also a lot further south from Captain Cook than it shows on the VRBO map. Also the neighborhood this house is in is quiet and seems safe enough, but there are several houses in the area that made us question that as we were driving in. Overall it was a nice stay.

Amazing Stay

Great host, great location. About an hour from Kona, definitely need a car to get around to other areas of the island. But the area is very scenic so the drives were nice. The host was really responsive and left us a bottle of wine and chocolates. Would stay at the house again.

Wonderful Beach House in Hawaii for a Family Getaway

Our extended family of eight recently stayed at this beautiful beach house in Hawaii, and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. The property provided plenty of room to spread out, plus there were adequate spaces that allowed us to gather and enjoy time togetherThe house was clean and comfortably furnished for lounging around inside as well as out on the deck. It has a well-stocked kitchen with everything we needed, an array of games to keep everyone entertained, including a ping-pong table plus snorkels/masks, towels and coolers for beach outings.The house was off the main highway down a steep winding road and located close to the water. It was in a quiet neighborhood away from the congestion of traffic. There is a good view of the water, spectacular sunsets, and beautiful night sky viewing. Cheryl, the property owner is a good communicator. She lives close by and is familiar with beaches, restaurants, etc. She acted quickly to address a plumbing issue that was quickly resolved.Overall, this beach house exceeded our expectations and provided us with a memorable and relaxing family vacation. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious and laidback place away from the tourist congestion of Kona. We can recommend this house without reservation. Aloha!

Perfect big house for a group

We loved this place and it’s location. The view is great, a quiet safe neighborhood, good water pressure, clean house. The deck was definitely the most used area for our family, listening and watching the waves with birds singing as the sun rises or sets. it was truly amazing.

Christmas 2025

We made a last minute decision to go to Hawaii for Christmas and got lucky to find this home. Host was super communicative and easy to work with. Lani was great with views and ocean breeze. We wanted beds and rooms for 5 adults so this worked out well. Having 3 full bathrooms was a bonus. Quiet town and lots of driving but that was perfect for our adventures going to volcano, beaches and waterfalls. Great family memories for a lifetime.

Great house with tons of character!!

Chose this house because of location. Our first time on the big island so wanted to visit both Hilo and Kona side. Location allowed for good options each day as it was less than 2 hours from Hilo, and only an hour away from Hilo . House is great and host is super responsive. You can tell how much this house is cared for. The home is somehow cozy and spacious at the same time. Very charming decor and has a ton of stuff for family nights. Our family has 2 adult children, one teenager, and two 12 year old boys so we packed the house, but everybody was easily accomodated, slept well and enjoyed all the "extras". Downstairs has a great game room style feel, with video games, darts, ping pong and pool as options. Fun time for sure. The house is in a quite area and bbq'ing on the deck in the evening, watching the sunset is the thing of dreams. Easily accommodated our 7 member family with room to spare. Definitely on our list to rebook when we return to the big island!!!

Quiet and relaxing

Cheryl is a great host. Her communication is perfect. The house is spacious, clean and you will find everything you need. We used the house mainly for sleeping. There are no coqui frogs or mosquitoes. Ideal for a peaceful sleep. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Awesome quiet getaway spot

This is the perfect place for a quiet family getaway. House has everything you could ask for with comfortable beds and pillows. Full kitchen with spices on hand. Game room and dvds on first floor. Incredible views from balcony and snorkeling sets, kayaks, boogie boards etc. Private, primitive snorkeling site that can be reached scrambling over lava rocks (stairs washed out)- Not for small kiddos or anyone needing assistance, but most people would have no problem, especially since it’s so private & lots of fish! Canoe launch and beach just down the road for others. There is with grocery store about 30 mins away and house is down a twisting hill, but remote location is ideal to get away from tourist locations and an incredible night time star viewing! Will be going back. Host is terrific and will answer any questions you may have. Highly recommend!!

Gorgeous and Relaxing Spot on the Big Island

We loved this property! It is located outside of the hustle and bustle of Kona and Hilo, but the views and the house itself are worth the drive. Located about halfway between Hilo and Kona, we had easy access to either side of the island and SUPER easy access to our favorite beach: Punulu'u. Our host was wonderful and we had very easy and open communication with her. The house was awesome and fit our family of 5 plus my husband's mom and my parents. We would definitely stay here again without hesitation and will definitely be encouraging our friends and family to stay here as well!!

A true Hawaiian gem!

This place has so many amenities that made our vacation a delight. We were made to feel very welcome by our gracious host who answered all our questions. The house is delightfully decorated and has plenty of seating inside and outside. We loved the view and being able to see whales, waves and fishing boats from our deck chairs! This is a great place for a family vacation!!

Lovely Get Away

There were 4 of us. My husband and 2 of our 20 somethings. Everyone had plenty of space to themselves for work, fun and relaxation. The house was very accommodating. The deck is everything! For gathering, for eating and for viewing the ocean. The drive in and out of the neighborhood is something to be aware of, and driving was a big part of getting to see the island and all it has to offer. Everyone forgave the driving since it was so nice to be back at the house!

Family Christmas

The house is beautiful and wonderfully stocked with everything you may need. Cheryl was a great host. However we ended up having to leave early as we could not handle the drive in and out with 99 turns just on the road down and over 300 to go to Kona! Great place if you don’t want to do anything but relax!

Perfect location for star gazing

We enjoyed our stay very much! Perfect way to spend a week away from reality of everyday life. Highly recommend. As others mentioned, be careful on the winding road.

Ocean sounds

We used the house as a home base to explore the island on many excursions. The highlight was watching/hearing the ocean and waves from the deck while eating breakfast each day, then soaking up the ocean sounds at night under the stars. Very comfortable accommodations with superb house host who is informative and friendly with a love for Hawaii.

The description of property was spot on! It is exactly an hour and half south of Kona and is in a very quiet neighborhood. The house is well equipped for staying staying there. We found the nearby swimming hole and ventured in for a quick swim. There is plenty of beach equipment and we used the snorkels.

Aloha. I am Cheryl Fortman the main owner of the property and we bought this house in 2012 after looking at 200 plus homes and condos. I am a retired first grade teacher in Fallbrook, California, San Diego county. That's been my job for 30 plus years and I still enjoy it! I love the quietness and remoteness of the house as I deal with the San Diego rat race all the time at home. I love hiking around the area and walking to the swimming hole which is two minutes away to snorkel. You take a right on kai and then three or 4 houses down on the left is a little bridge which you cross and you go down lava stairs and rope into the water or jump in. It's kind of Robinson Caruso style which kids love! At the top of the hill I often buy fish from this nice guy whose name starts with a 'D' he has sashimi grade ahi tuna, ono, and sometimes sailfish! I love to travel to the big island- its my home away from home and I am always willing to share house if its only me there and I will give a discounted rate because of that. I had lovely world travelers with me this summer that I really enjoyed and some really nice people from Texas that have rented the house 2 or three times now. I love to go to all the markets on the island- if you are interested in that please ask me about them and I would be happy to tell you about them. House is full of Art I have bought on the big island and from home goods store in San Diego. This vacation rental was a dream for two years that finally came true. The house is all I talk about when I am in California- that's how special this house is. Thank you for renting it! I really appreciate that!

The neighbours are great and have a live and let live philosophy which I appreciate! I love the look of the black lava rock against the blue ocean. The reason I bought the house was the humongous deck, the sunsets, the panoramic Pacific ocean view as you come down the hill and the ocean view from the deck. The sunsets are phenomenal and I almost have a 190 degree ocean view from the house. The kings trail is close to the house and you can hike on it. I like driving 5 minutes into the little fishing village and hiking into Honomolino. Kayaking in papa Bay are great! I still havent come at Christmas time and winter when the whales are there as house is always rented out then but I hope to in the future. I also hear you can hear the whales singing. I hear you can kayak around the whales but I haven't ever done it. Often there are pods of dolphins in the bay and I love the little mailbox library up on Umi street but you gotta put a book in to take one! I love reading books on the deck and drinking a Mai Tai there at sunset. Also, there is a washer and dryer which a lot of people appreciate.
