Hutchins Schoolhouse ligger på en kulle med utsikt över floden Batson och ligger på Beachwood Avenue som ligger 1 km från fiskebyn Cape Porpoise och den vackra Goose Rocks Beach. En 3 mil bilresa eller cykeltur tar dig till Kennebunport historiska "Dock Square" med dess många gallerier, affärer och restauranger.

Detta hem började som ett 2-rums skolhus 1909. Den ursprungliga byggnaden står oförändrad idag. Det finns 12 fot tak överallt, trägolv, inbyggda bokskåp och höga fönster för att uppmuntra sommarsjöbrisen. Den främre posten var en gång "garderoben" och hälsar dig med pastellfärgade målat glas sidoljus.

Sedan skolans stängning 1949 har ett badrum, kök och 2 verandor lagts till.

En skolrum är nu det "stora rummet" och matsalen. Det andra skolrummet har delats in i 2 14'x14'Bäddsrum. Alla har en klädkammare. En har en king size-säng och armoire och skrivbord. Båda sovrummen har 3 stora fönster och kylande tvärventilation. Det andra sovrummet har 2 enkelsängar, en byrå och ett inbyggt bokskåp.

Köket är "kök" -stil (dvs litet och effektivt) och har grunderna - spis i full storlek, mikrovågsugn, kaffebryggare, öppna hyllor och undre skåp. En antik armoire fungerar som ett skafferi. Köket är de bästa funktionerna är fönstret över diskhon och "butlers fönster" som gör att man kan titta på floden när du är vid spis.

Badrummet är rymligt och har en badkar med klo-fot med dusch och fönster. Handfat är en sjöjungfrudesign som är handgjord av ägaren.

Det finns 2 verandor. En är innesluten och har en dubbel storlek futon och vetter mot floden. Det har fönster överallt. Den andra verandan är på trädgårdsidan och är utomhus och täckt. Det finns en trevlig gunga - perfekt för att titta på en sommardusch eller de många besökande fåglarna och fjärilarna.

En kajak är tillgänglig för paddling vid floden eller för att transportera den till ett närliggande damm eller Goose Rocks.

Skolhusets ägare är en keramiker och kommer att arbeta dagligen i sin separata studio i lokalerna. Den veckovisa hyran inkluderar 4 timmars studietid med grundläggande instruktioner - eller - arbeta eller leka med lera på egen hand!

Another Great Stay!

This is our second summer staying at the Schoolhouse. It’s a very comfortable home for our family of three plus our 13 year old Goldendoodle. The house is in a great location and offers a variety of spaces to unwind after a long day at the beach or in town!

Fantastic Stay

The Schoolhouse property was such a cool and unique place to stay. It feels very country but is close to everything, so the best of both worlds. The house was clean, felt very comfortable, and had all needed amenities. Wendy has put together a special place.

The way life should be!

Wonderful location in a very unique cottage. The site is centrally located to all interesting activities but still secluded in a country setting. The cottage has all the charm of its actual beginnings…a 1909 schoolhouse. The owner even has on display pictures of school classes on the front steps! All modern facilities are provided. I have already booked next year.

Perfect vacation

Very charming home. Lots of room. We loved the swing on the back porch. Great location not far from town or Goose Rock beach. Wendy is a great host. Bring bug spray as there are lots of mosquitoes.

Peaceful Kennebunkport Vacation

This is our third stay at the historic schoolhouse. The house, which is equipped with everything needed for a vacation, is clean, light, and filled with antiques, pottery, and whimsical decorations. The porches provide views of the flowers, birds, and fireflies at dusk. The location is a short drive to Goose Rocks Beach and the restaurants and shops in Dock Square. The owner, Wendy, is very warm and accommodating. I highly recommend staying at this historic schoolhouse in a very special part of Maine. We feel very fortunate to have been able to experience the charm and history of the home and look forward to future stays.

Charming home between the beach and town

Wendy was a great host and her property is truly special. It's perfectly located between the town of Kennebunkport and Goose Rocks beach. The schoolhouse is very unique with charming details throughout. My daughter loved visiting Wendy in her studio and getting her hands dirty. We hope to be back!

Delightful stay

My wife, 19 year old daughter, mother in law, and our dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint and unique property. Private location, birds and dragonflies a plenty. Wendy is a truly gracious and attentive host. Her pottery making lesson was a highlight— something we will never forget. Highly recommended!

Charming and cozy!

Came here for a girls' trip and stayed a week in this lovely property. It was utterly charming, comfortable and convenient to Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise. Wendy is wonderful - we had a homemade blueberry pie awaiting us when we arrived and were also able to meet her and take a tour of her pottery studio. This is by far one of the nicest and most unique properties we have ever stayed in and would definitely return if we were back in the area. Highly recommend!

Maine…the way life should be!

The Schoolhouse has so much charm…it is difficult to take everything in. The location is ideal between Goose Rocks and Cape Porpoise…central to everything but secluded as well. Wendy and Bruce were friendly and very helpful…made me feel right at home. So much so, I have rented the Schoolhouse for three weeks next September. Wonderful spot and terrific hosts. Absolutely Wonderful Stay

Wendy, the owner is a pleasure to know, and goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. I am glad she is now a part of my life. And her place is just as much a jem as she is. The house is so well decorated it's difficult to describe. It was built in the 20's as a 2-room schoolhouse. The remodeling has been so artfully done that it's like stepping back in time, while still having the modern day amenities we've all become accustomed to. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Magical Cottage by the Creek

This home is a gem in the middle of Kennebunkport. At the little school house, you are treated to a carefully-curated collection of art in this lovingly-appointed home. Our dog has to come with us on vacation because we are a family package, and this little spot of loveliness was a welcoming home away from home. Very positive vibes. The School House is a quintessential Maine experience. Wendy is an attentive and gracious host. Her gorgeous work is displayed throughout the house…but wait until you see her pottery studio! It’s as charming as the home and just as inviting. We couldn’t have imagined a better experience. Thank you, Wendy!

The Perfect Spot

This property was the perfect spot for my family of three (husband, 9 year old daughter, and me) and 12 year old Goldendoodle with regards to space, cleanliness, comfort, and location. The schoolhouse is much bigger inside than we expected with large ceilings that helped keep the house cool. We are A/C people and thus appreciated how well the A/C worked and kept the house cool both day and night. The house never felt dirty or wet, which is a bit pet peeve of ours when we've rented previous Maine homes in the summer. The house is close to GRB, where we went most days, and not far from Dock Square either, so a great location. The one bathroom was nice and big for the use by all three of us, and the beds were very comfortable. The bath/shower was a little high and was a bit tricky for all of us to get in/out, especially my 9 year old daughter, so be sure to use the stool that is in the bathroom to aid with this.

A magical place in Maine

The Hutchins Schoolhouse is a magical place..filled with artwork from owner, Wendy, and other artists. The house is filled with light and is a beautiful and calming place to vacation. My family loved it and it’s proximity to Goose Rocks Beach and Kennebunkport make it an ideal location. Wendy went out of her way to make us feel welcome and even spent several hours with my daughter and me in her studio teaching us how to make our own art pieces. Priceless moments that will never be forgotten.

Our favorite getaway

This was our second amazing summer trip to the old school house. We returned home so relaxed after a week of relaxing on the porch swing and enjoying the sun on Goose Rocks Beach. This place is well located only a few minutes drive from the beach and is beautifully situated on a creek. Our toddler had an amazing time at what he calls “Maine’s house” and we love that we can bring our old Labrador with us.

Cozy

A funky and charming converted schoolhouse full of magical surprises for children. Comfortable beds. We brought our ROKU but the tv was older and did not have a USB port - so Wendy bought a new television. She is lovely and amazing. The location is perfect for any activity you might be interested in. The pictures of the house are accurate.

Enchanted Schoolhouse

We loved our stay at the historic and charming schoolhouse with lots of lovely details. It was super clean and had everything we needed. Wendy was welcoming and easy to reach. The house is less than 10 min from Goose Rock beach which we and in the evenings our dogs had fun to play at. Super clean and soft sandy beach. Beach parking is admittedly a bot of a challenge as its scarce and pricey but free after 6 PM. 35 minutes to Portland if you want to see the city and 2 min from fantastic ice cream store which my kids loved of course. Try the boulangerie/bakery in Kinnebunk - its worth the trip to get fresh baked goods and bread in the morning.
