Located in the historic and beautiful Stratobowl. Sleeps 6. This home was built into the landscape of a rugged canyon. The location is very isolated, yet convenient to Rapid City and attractions. Large windows provide incredible wilderness view up Spring Creek. Surrounded by hiking trails and Forest Service land. A bighorn sheep area borders the property. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a sleeping loft with a queen size bed. A second bedroom has a queen size bed. Both bedrooms have private decks overlooking the creek. Additionally, there are two full size beds in the basement. There is a well equipped kitchen and a very comfortable living room and a dining area. There is an entertainment center with a video library and local television channels. There is a wraparound deck with seating and relaxing areas. The master bath has both a shower and a claw foot tub. The home is a one-of-a-kind, in a very unique and beautiful setting.

Enjoy the natural beauty of the Black Hills secluded in this one-of-a-kind home along Spring Creek. The home is located in a very unique and historic area, the Stratobowl - birthplace of the Space Age where the Army Air Corps and National Geographic Society launched manned balloon flights into the stratosphere to a record 72,395 feet in 1934-35.

Note: Guests of the "Be House" have access to the best swimming hole on Spring Creek shown in the photos via short drive or stroll of 1/2 mi. This location is shared with another vacation home and we request that "Be House" guests limit their enjoyment of it between the hours of 10am to 7:00pm.

In order to access the surrounding property (Stratobowl, trails along the creek, etc), a hold harmless waiver will be available to sign at check in.

It is about 20 minutes to Rapid City and 20 minutes to Mount Rushmore. Check in time is 4:00 PM and check out is 11:00 AM.

Nature Made

This was the most serene and relaxing place we have ever stayed in a listed place. The description was perfect in saying it was a secluded cabin. The surrounding area of cliffs and woods offered so much peace. Any season would be so inviting. Ken was an exceptional host and very hospitable in showing us around the acreage and the history behind it!!

Magical Week

The drive into the property is pure eye candy, the 5 boys saw a deer as we approached the house! Hiking, Swimming in the pond, allowing us the use of the Kayaks and life vests!! Just the best host ever. There are certainly enough blankets, pillows and towels for any big family. We loved seeing the little chipmunks each morning and the star filled sky each night. I could not have picked a better place to bring my family to enjoy such a beautiful vacation. Thank you so very much

Absolutely amazing house and property! Ken & Cory have thought of everything to make your stay unforgettable. The kids (and adults) spent hours and hours playing in the creek and swimming in the water hole.

Great views and hikes, super quiet

We stayed at the house much more than we anticipated because we were surrounded by so much beauty and cleared hiking paths. The host was friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful trip and anticipate returning if we come back to the area! The house had everything we needed for a family of four.

Beautiful Property

The location of this property is absolutely beautiful! Loved sitting on the decks and watching a momma deer and her two babies and listening to the sound of the running creek was so peaceful. The property manager was very nice and showed us around. I would definitely recommend if you just want a place to unwind and relax!

Perfect Relaxing Family Spot

This property and host are amazing! We enjoyed sitting on the decks listening to the creek, watching animals wander along the creek, hiking the property's trails, and swimming at the swimming hole. A perfect place to call home while exploring the Black Hills - close to many of the areas attractions, yet very secluded, quiet, and beautiful.

Stunning views, relaxing atmosphere

Our family could not have been more comfortable and felt this whole area was perfect to escape and just enjoy eachother's company. The hosts were so welcoming and had everything taken care of! There is access to hiking that is so beautiful, and it is easy access to all the local adventures. There was easy access to everything while also feeling that you had total privacy in gorgeous natural surroundings!

Peaceful and Relaxing stay in the mountains

Ken and Cory have created a gorgeous and peaceful home away from home. The cabin is very secluded, all the amenities you need for a nice stay, breathtaking scenery and just a short distance from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custers State Park, Needles Highway (we went to all of these). We enjoyed a relaxing ride thru the Black Hills on the 1880 train. Very yummy restaurants, but we stocked up on groceries and cooked most meals. The history of the property that the cabin sits on is very interesting! Thank you again Ken and Cory for a remarkable vacation spot! We will be back!

Beautiful peaceful location

Lovely property secluded in nature. We had it all...running river, swimming hole, granite and deer. This was perfect for us. We just finished the Centennial Trail and wanted a place to rest. The kitchen was spacious and well stocked seasonings. The living room has comfortable furniture with excellent views. The wrap around porch was used daily! The location was perfect for day trips to Custer, Rapid City or Hill City. The hosts are wonderful!, very knowledgeable and share our interest in outdoor activities. They even have a garden I was able to resource leafy greens and herbs. The property has a couple of trails to walk. We would definitely stay again!

Black hills trip

We stayed in august and had a wonderful time. Property was clean, very well stocked, Ken was welcoming and friendly. We really enjoyed hiking on the property and the kayaks/ swimming hole! Beautiful and peaceful but also close to all the sights. Quiet, plenty of space for the kids to run around too. We hope to be back!

Relaxing space in a perfect location

We couldn't be happier with this beautiful home in the Black Hills National Forest. Amazing nature views off the beaten path, but still centrally located to all tourist destinations. We already started discussing when we can return and just spend time at Ken and Corey's!

Simply Amazing

Stunning hidden treasure. Great location away from tourism yet minutes away from all the fun. Beautiful area to retreat & decompress from all the noise while exploring the landscape or simply taking in the views from the home. Out of all my travels this location was the hardest to leave.

Location couldn’t be more perfect close to everything but out in the middle of nowhere. Sitting on the deck listening to the steam and watching all the wildlife was our favorite. The swimming hole was amazing also. Would recommend and return.

Home away from home

We were lucky to find this place and experience Black Hills from our backyard. Location of the property is perfect. Short driving distance to town and same to nearby activities. House was stacked with all basic necessities besides food (of course). It is very spacious and cozy. If you like peace and quiet with million dollar views, this property has it all. Swimming hole is 5 minute walk from the house. There are also few short hiking trails on the property. Ken and Cory were always available to answer any questions we had, offer advices on local attractions and even share some local history. We really enjoyed our stay and hopefully will be lucky enough to visit again one day.

The online pictures do not do this property justice. It’s absolutely gorgeous and the multi level wrap around decks let you truly enjoy it all. On property hiking trails and swimming hole are great. You are 30 minutes from Rushmore, Custer,Pactola lake. 40 minutes to Sturgis and a short 15 minutes to rapid city. Location gets no better than this.

Beautiful area

This property is in a great location. It is secluded, quiet, beautiful but also near so many places to visit. The location makes it easy to get to many tourist spots. There is a Walmart 10 minutes away. It was a great place to relax. There are several hiking trails nearby as well. I highly recommend the Stratobowl trail

We live in the Black Hills of South Dakota in a place known as the Stratobowl. This geological wonder is carved from the combined effects of water erosion and the uplift of a fault line in the rugged Spring Creek canyon. Secluded and idyllic, the property is reminiscent of another era. Maybe it is the silence, the old limestone cliffs, or the song of the creek meandering through the seasons. As these ancient voices surround us, we breathe in all the natural beauty. Peace melts into our being and comes out as creative expressions. When the moon is full, the canyon becomes an illuminated, mystical experience. That is why, at one time, this place was named 'Moon Valley'. Then, in 1934 and 1935, the Army Air corps and National Geographic Society launched manned balloon flights into the stratosphere from here. It was then, that the family field aquired its new name of 'The Stratobowl' while becoming the birth place for the space age.
