IF this had been our first VRBO stay, it very well may have been our last. We have stayed in numerous VRBO properties in several states and countries and always were reluctant to leave. This property, we were reluctant to stay even for the one night. Our normal VRBO experience is one of great communication, obvious pride of ownership exhibited and extras that have always made us feel welcomed and extremely comfortable, whether it was an overnight stay or a 7-week stint. Things we can say for this property - they do have free parking and the location is great. The housekeeper does a nice job in that the toilet, sinks and floors were clean. The linens were clean and the bed was comfortable. We could get that at a Motel 6 and not pay the additional fees. The communication was poor even though we were encouraged to contact them. In attempting to get the door code the day before arrival, we received an email with an enormous amount of "coding" at both ends with a message in the middle stating the writer (not the owner) "understood and would get back to me in a few." Most of the communication we received from the representatives of the owner were requests that would protect their interests, which is fine, but in return, some attention to our needs would have been appreciated. When you arrive, you do not use the pretty door in the profile. You are instructed to use the side door, which you approach from the back of the house where the parking lot is, go along a very dilapidated fence past trash and weeds to a stoop and door, which could use some attention. Once inside, you are greeted with shabby, minus the chic. Paint is good, but it may be best to address what the paint is covering before you apply your brush. Lots of sins here that are very visible through the paint. BUT the biggest issue is the place needs a really good deep cleaning (e.g. grout, shower, baseboards, etc.). We had no hot water, but it really didn't matter because we heated hot water for the few dishes we used and there is no way either of us would have set foot in the shower or stepped barefoot on the bathmat. This has not been an easy review to write. In fact I waited over a week to do so, but this is a property that does not come up to the standards we have found in our many VRBO stays. We book through VRBO because we want to stay someplace we can make memories to cherish. In ALL previous experiences we have been eager to give a full 5 stars. Not this time.
