Hillside Hideaway | Mid-Century | Private Patio
Step inside an architectural gem at Hillside Hideaway I. This lower-level 2 bedroom, 1 bath home was designed by the renowned modernist architect Homer Delawie, a master of elegant simplicity and post-WWII design. Known for his signature use of vast glass to blur the lines between indoors and outdoors, Delawie's work is celebrated throughout San Diego, with many of his designs now historical landmarks. This home is a noteworthy and unique example of his iconic style.

Located on hills overlooking downtown San Diego and the bay, Mission Hills is an affluent, historic neighborhood with a distinct village-like atmosphere. Its tree-lined streets are celebrated for beautiful Craftsman, Spanish Colonial, and mid-century homes. With a focus on architectural preservation, the walkable business district boasts local restaurants and boutiques, creating a peaceful, scenic retreat just minutes from downtown.
Discover the work of modernist architect Homer Delawie at the Hillside Hideaway. This unique downstairs unit reflects his renowned style of simplicity, using large glass areas to seamlessly blend the living space with the natural surroundings. Enjoy your time in our open-concept home featuring one main bedroom, a large den space that doubles as second bedroom, stylish kitchen, bright dining nook and a private, spacious 200 sq. ft. outdoor patio. The unit is equipped with two mini-split AC/heat units, Roku TV, Smart Home Devices and much more! We've got everything you need to live like a San Diego local.
KITCHEN: One of our favorite spaces. Open to the living area with a beautiful island to eat at, work, or just lounge around. The space is equipped with everything you should need - pots, pans, utensils, dishes, glassware, crockpot, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, and all new appliances. The island has ample charging stations for all your gadgets.
DINING NOOK: This space is perfect for working or enjoying a meal. With floor to ceiling windows that look out to the patio - it is very cheery and bright. There is power here for your laptops and gadgets .
LIVING ROOM: The living space is open yet cozy, with a swivel 48in TV, couch, and convertible coffee table (you can use the top as a tray and fold up the legs). We have one mini-split AC/Heat unit located in this space. Our favorite part: floor to ceiling sliding glass doors that lead to the 200 sq. ft. private patio. Please note: the fireplace is ornamental only.
DEN/SECOND BEDROOM: This space is located behind the main living space and features a queen bed, two nightstands, and full size closet. Should you like a bit more privacy in this space, there is a linen room divider and separate entry door in the hall.
MAIN BEDROOM: Offers a Queen bed, nightstand, Roku TV, ceiling fan, one mini-split AC/Heat unit, and large closet. There is ample space in this room for a pack-n-play or crib.
BATHROOM: All new fixtures and vanity. Features a full size bathtub, Waterpik showerhead with body wand, large sink, and ample storage. We provide the standard amenities here: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cotton swabs and linens.
OUTDOOR PATIO: Kick back and enjoy the mild San Diego weather day or night in your own completely private 200 sf. patio. Ample space to dine, work, or just relax. Definitely a highlight of the property .
Laundry: A shared washer and dryer are available in the carport.
BEACH ESSENTIALS: We provide beach towels, a cooler, and beach chairs. We are a short drive from Ocean Beach (9 min), Mission Beach (10 min), and other famous San Diego beaches.
This property features two distinct units, each with private terraces and spacious open floor plans. The recently renovated smaller lower level unit HILLSIDE HIDEAWAY I includes 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom and outdoor patio with floor to ceiling glass blending the line between inside and out.
A Truly Walkable Neighborhood
Our home is located in a perfectly walkable neighborhood, making it easy to explore San Diego's culinary and social hubs on foot. Enjoy a quick stroll into the heart of Mission Hills to discover top-rated restaurants like Fort Oak, Cardellino, and The Red Door, along with the famous Huddle Neighborhood Diner.
You can also head in the other direction down to India Street and explore some of San Diego's most famous eateries and bars, including Lucha Libre, El Indio, Shakespeare's Pub, and the Regal Beagle.

Traveling with little ones? For a $79 fee, we can have a baby gear package ready for you upon arrival. It includes a high chair, a pack n' play (crib), sheets, a blanket, toys, and books. If you need other items, just let us know and we'll be happy to arrange them for an additional fee.
