Wallaby Cottage - en lugn Bruny Island reträtt med en vacker utsikt

En bekväm weatherboard-stuga med utsikt över Nebraska Beach, som ligger några minuters promenad bort. Fantastisk utsikt ut över D'entrecasteaux-kanalen från däcken på framsidan och sidan av stugan. Perfekt för ett par och två små barn - eller två extra vuxna som inte bryr sig om att dela ett litet sovrum! Stugan är uppe på en kort men ganska brant grusspår - om du inte har 4WD, bara närma dig från söder, vilket undviker den vassa svängen från Nebraska Road. Inuti finns det ett stort huvudrum, som omfattar kök, matplats och vardagsrum, som alla leder ut via franska dörrar till däck. På mezzaninnivå finns det stora sovrummet, med eget däckområde utanför franska dörrar, ett litet sovrum med två enkelsängar, badrum med (mycket bra) dusch och tvättmaskin och separat toalett.
Detta är en familjshack, snarare än ett smart, specialbyggt modernt hus. Det finns ingen luftkonditionering eller diskmaskin. Inget internet heller, även om det finns god mobilmottagning. Liten TV / DVD-spelare. Men om du letar efter ett hus som är en bekväm tillflyktsort, nära stranden, skyddad från vinden, och med ett vackert däckområde, är det ett underbart ställe att bo. Fågelliv och djurliv runt omkring (det är därför vi säger inga hundar!) - och tyvärr kan det inkludera mygg under sommarmånaderna - surrar och spolar finns i skåpen. BBQ ute på däck för sommaren och en vedeldare för att snuggla upp inne på vintern.

A beautiful retreat

This a truly beautiful place to stay in a quite magical location. The house is warm and welcoming with beautiful views of the sea, a lovely outdoor deck, and cosy corners for the cooler times. The beach, which is a perfect swimming beach and very family friendly, is a few minutes walk away. You will love it here, you will want to find a place of your own like it and never leave.

Beautiful part of Tasmania!

Our stay at this property was fantastic! We loved the modern side of the property but loved that it still felt like a shack!! The deck was amazing when eating tea and sitting in the sun in the Afternoons! All in all we had a fantastic stay in comfort with a picturesque view! Thank you very much!

Bruny Island break

Loved staying at Wallaby Cottage. Very appropriately named as we saw several wallabies on the property during our stay. The home has everything you need while there. Make sure you bring all the food and drinks you want with you as the two general stores are on the south island, and the drives to them are not short.

What an absolute delight

Lindsay made my friends and I feel so very welcome at her beautiful home. She left ingredients to make bread in her bread maker, and provided us with the transformation of the house in a little booklet that was so heartfelt and wholesome to see. There is a lot of love put into this place and we felt it everyday. I cannot recommend enough how lovely a stay it was. I will definitely be returning!

Wallaby Cottage, Dennes Point, Bruny Island

This was exactly what I was hoping for, and more! Beautiful location and stunning views. The host provided excellent information about the island and everything you would need to know about the house, getting around etc. The communication was prompt, helpful and friendly. While Dennes Point is a bit of a drive away from a number of the Islands attractions, I loved the fact that I was away from most of the main tourist crowd and didn’t mind the driving. I’d say it may be back on my list of ‘must return’ places. Bruny Island is stunningly beautiful and its nature appears well respected. The information about its natural environment, its history, including Indigenous people, was great to be able to access.

Stylish house with great views.

We enjoyed walking on the beach and sitting on the deck gazing at the view. Also saw an echidna and an Eastern quoll in the back yard. Very comfortable, especially the day bed in the box window.

easy to live in with great views of water and coast line of tassie

the house was easy to live in and was equiped with all the items one needs for a comfortable stay the balcony was great to relax on with views of the water, the house is well kept and very clean. would recomend if anyone asked.

I spent a year renovating the little house to make it a comfortable place by the sea where I could relax away from it all. That's why there's no internet - and the TV is only a tiny one!
I came to Bruny Island on my first weekend in Tasmania, having emigrated from the UK, in 2004. I couldn't believe I had come to live so close to this absolute paradise! So, nine years later, when my family had grown up, I knew this island was where I wanted to find an old shack and transform it into somewhere special. And now I want to share it, to let other people discover the island from this homely cottage.

Varför värden valde detta boende

I absolutely fell in love with Bruny Island from that first weekend. But while most visitors head straight for Adventure Bay, I wanted to be in the quieter end of the less visited North Island. It is just bliss to turn off the main road onto the gravel track and head up to Dennes Point. And this little cottage is set back from the beach up in a secluded gully. Nobody looks up here - I painted the rails on the deck on a very hot day wearing very little - and I don't think anybody saw me! I can sit on the deck with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down over Sleeping Beauty and listening to the waves breaking on the beach - and suddenly the world doesn't seem such a bad place!

Vad som gör detta boende unikt

When I first saw the cottage, it was ... not a very attractive prospect. It smelt of a leaking toilet, there was a hole in the roof and quoll poo in the kitchen! Everything need to be ripped out - with one exception: the wonderful stained-glass panel of a 'wallaby in a scout's uniform' in the front door! That's why I have called it Wallaby Cottage. (Yes, I know, it's actually a pademelon, but Pademelon Cottage is a bit of a mouthful! And there is of course more than one resident wallaby around the block...) There was no deck originally - but a view like that demanded one. And when you can wake up and see the gulls flying across the sea without even getting out of bed, the bedroom had to have a big window! Better still, some French doors onto another totally private. sheltered deck just outside it. I loved designing it - and hope you love the place as much as I do!
