Great location- easy walking distance to Kona.Well stocked kitchen( pots, pans etc)Kona makai is fairly quiet facility- if you like to party- probably not the place for you.

Great quiet location with beautiful sunsets!

We loved the view, location and kind people around. Condominium was clean and comfortable for family of 4. We enjoyed the sunset form our balcony and pool ground every evening. Would recommend to others. The management was very helpful and responsive for all our questions and needs . Mahalo

Beautiful quiet rental!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We found everything needed to be comfortable in this unit. We did gave an issue with the tub draining and someone was there and fixed it promptly! Loved the ocean view. We were able to see the whales from our lanai.

Just beautiful!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I had the most beautiful stay in Kailua Kona. The apartment was clean and very comfortable, with all the amenities you could ever need. The ocean views from the lānai are stunning! The apartment complex itself is calm, peaceful and very well-kept. The vacation rental management staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with. I would most certainly stay here again. As per location, it’s about 20 minutes of gentle coastal walk to the town, which I really enjoyed. There are plenty of souvenir and boutique-style shops, gorgeous restaurants and cafes. You don’t need to leave the area if you don’t want to, although I recommend you do, the Island is incredibly beautiful!

Unit was as pictured

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The positives: This was the only place we stayed this visit that we didn't see cockroaches in the kitchen! The AC unit worked very well, and cooled it off immediately.They had a lot of nice stuff we could use, snorkel gear, cooler, chairs, umbrella. They had extra blow up mattress and bedding for our 5th guestNegatives:The spiral staircase was not convenient to carry luggage to the loft, the upper unit sleepers ended up leaving all their luggage in the main bedroom and changing in there. Its on the 3rd floor with no elevator, not a big deal, but it was tricky getting all of our gear and groceries in and out when we arrived and left.The previous renters left all the dishes disgusting! There were eggs in the pans put away in the cupboards etc. We had to rewash everything before we could use anything (no dishwasher). Totally not the fault of the management company, but really gross!There are SO MANY rules! Wasn't a big deal, because we didn't need to break any, but when you're walking around the property you are being watched like a hawk!

Great Complex, Great Location

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we loved the location and the complex. The condo unit itself was quite good and the lanai, complete with a fan, being the best feature. It could have been excellent but for a few details: A full load of laundry was left in the dryer, which I didn't notice till just before we left but which might explain the lack of tea towels and dish cloths! The coffee pot clearly hadn't been washed in months, which I had to do before I could use it. Silverware completely inadequate and cheap: 3 forks? 4 knives? While they had a good selection of large drink glasses there were no wine glasses (unless you counted the bulb ones with the palm trees painted on them; yuck!). Cupboards were crammed full of stuff, not organized and not very clean. I washed what I needed before using. I would (and have) recommended this place but I might look for other units in this complex.

Reviewer Comments: Our 1st rental was no longer available so we were offered a different rental which was a great! Excellent service. We much enjoyed the location and the appartement, especially the terrasse overlooking the sea.

Nice Condo Complex; Good Service

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Kona Makai condo complex is a great place to stay. Nicely run place with beautiful oceanfront grounds. Booking with Knutsen was easy and worked out very well. We really liked the service provided by Knutsen. So, that's the good. The not so good was the actual condo itself. The unit was tired. Needs a gutting. The area of the AC unit in the master bedroom had a pretty funky odour, and the intake needed a good cleaning. We replaced the shower curtain, as the existing one was pretty nasty. Many of the little details I have come to expect when renting other condos were not there. The beach gear was kinda ******. The beach chairs were not in great shape and one of the boogie boards was falling apart. There was no cooler or cooler bag for beach excursions. Other probs included the door on the washer that had to be held shut to get the machine to start up. One night we decided to watch a movie, but the DVD player would not function properly. We were told that the place was for sale, and by the lack of attention to some of the basics and details in the unit, you can tell that this is the case. Seems like the owner doesn't care. In summary, I would stay at Kona Makai again, and would also use Knutsen again for the booking. But I would not recommend this unit in it's current state.

Annual Big Island Christmas Trip 2015

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 1st time staying at the Kona Makai after staying several years at another complex. We loved the space and the vaulted ceiling. It's a very quiet unit, within a very quiet, well-maintained property. The unit has a large lanai and offers a distant ocean view, but were very pleased to have a direct sunset view, for the time period we were there. One downside is that should you have little kids who like to play with other little kids down at the pool, as we do, this complex might not be the best choice in Kona for you, as the pool was usually without other kids. Additionally, the complex has a bylaw that prohibits people under 14 from using the hot-tub, for which we respected. We have been coming to Kona for about a decade, and the things that draw us back are the great snorkeling either close-by right out in-front of the complex and at Kahaluu or more distantly at 2 Step, Beach 69 or Kapoho Tide pools. We love driving the Big Island. New Saddle Rd and Hwy 137 Kalapana to Kapoho are our favorite drives. Amazing quiet beaches and hikes on the Big Island too. This was my 1st time booking with Knutson, and I would do so again. Property Manager Blake as great to deal with. Aloha

Reviewer Comments: Kona Makai is a great complex to stay at. the unit is clean and well maintained but a little dated. loved setting on the lanai in the morning sun and watching the sunsets in the evening. the unit can get kind of warm, it has air conditioners but we found putting the portable fan in front of the bed room window to create cross ventilation was better.
