I stayed in this apartment in June 2011 with my 5 sisters as a family get-together to celebrate my 50th birthday. We're spread out across 2 continents, so just wanted somewhere easy to get to in terms of flights, which was near to the sea / beach and places to visit.
The location was perfect! Short bus and train journey from Nice International airport - only took about 20 minutes and cost about 3 Euros. 10 minutes walk from the train station at Villefranche sur Mer and you're at the apartment, right on the sea-front.
The apartment was great, just what we wanted. It's quirky - built into the ancient stone of the medieval old town - and has a great open plan space downstairs, The whole apartment is just as described on the website - what you see is what you get and it's perfect for a group who is happy to just 'muck in together' and has no real need for their own privacy. The facilities were good and perfectly met our needs. Bed linen and towels were clean and plentiful. We opened up the 2 bedrooms upstairs and made them into 1 big space to suit us better. The bedroom mezzanine is open to the space below, so if you want real bedroom privacy and are in a group, it's not for you.
The apartment is above the Beluga bar & restaurant and to access it, you have to walk through the terrace of the restaurant. The staff there are very friendly and didn't seem to mind us trouping through with all our beach stuff / shopping bags! The restaurant plays music throughout the day/evening until about midnight but this didn't bother us, as we didn't plan on having any early nights...
Each evening, we would sit on the apartment's terrace just above the restaurant and enjoy the lovely view, eachother's company, the local wine and the music. Perfect!
The only problem was the mosquitoes, which seemed to particularly like me and one of my sisters! But even though we were covered in bites, it didn't stop us enjoying our week's holiday.
Villlefranche sur Mer is a beautiful place and the old town is lovely to walk around, day and night. Public transport in the area is excellent and low cost, and you can easily reach lots of places to visit using the local trains and buses, e.g. it's only 15 minutes on the train to Monaco - Monte Carlo.
I would definitely recommend this apartment.
