Omgiven av 200 tunnland parklandskap är denna underbara stuga perfekt för att utforska gränslandet .. Bottenvåning: Vardags- / matplats / kök. Separat toalett. Första våningen: 2 sovrum: 1 dubbel (fyra affisch), 1 tvilling. Badrum med dusch över badkar och toalett .. Freeview TV. Tvättmaskin. Wi-Fi. Parkering. Ingen rökning.. De 200 tunnland härliga parkområden som omger Mellerstain House, ett av Skottlands storslagna ståtliga hem, designat och byggt av William och Robert Adam, ger en underbar miljö för dessa två underbara stugor (S4568 och S4569). Besökare är välkomna att vandra i grunderna inklusive de fantastiska terrasserna i italiensk stil som har panoramautsikt över sjön till de avlägsna Cheviot Hills. De natursköna och historiska sevärdheterna i gränsområdet är alla nära till hands och stränderna i Berwick och Holy Island är också lättillgängliga. Kelso (6 miles) erbjuder affärer, värdshus och restauranger och är hem för Floors Castle och den berömda Kelso Horse Races, medan Edinburgh, med sitt magnifika slott, museer, gallerier och utmärkt shopping, ligger bara 35 mil. Flygfiske kan ordnas lokalt, flera golfbanor finns i närheten och butiker och pubar ligger bara 5,5 km bort. Vackert inredda och mycket bekväma, dessa två egenskaper erbjuder en unik semester möjlighet. Clock House, ref S4568, har vackert konverterats till en hög standard för att utgöra en del av Old Clock House från början av 1700-talet. Angränsande till klockhuset är Courtyard Cottage, ref S4569, som också har kärleksfullt omvandlats till en hög standard och har tre badrum med eget badrum. På gårdsplanens kafé serveras utsökt hemlagad mat på "husöppnade" dagar - och speciella tillfällen, stora och små, kan ordnas efter överenskommelse i Mellerstain House statsrum. We spent a fortnight in Clockhouse Cottage at the end of October and loved every minute of it.

We spent a fortnight in Clockhouse Cottage at the end of October and loved every minute of it. Mellerstain House was closed for the winter so we had the grounds more or less to ourselves which was a real treat - the grounds are open to the public during the winter but we only saw a couple of visitors while we were there. We felt very much at home and were very sad to leave it. We will definitely consider booking again if we come back to this area for a holiday.The cottage is warm and cosy, and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. The staff we encountered were very approachable and helpful.In open season the grounds will of course be busier during the day but I donâ€™t think this would have detracted from our enjoyment of the cottage. Closed season does offer something a little different though, driving into the grounds past Mellerstain House and having the place to yourself really feels a wee bit special, so weâ€™d definitely recommend the cottage if youâ€™re looking for an out of season retreat.Weâ€™ve stayed in, and enjoyed, quite a few holiday cottages over the years and this has definitely been our favourite to date.

Beautiful gardens

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and loved walking around the amazing gardens and wooded areas. The location is excellent being close to many Borders towns. The property was clean apart from the oven which needs a good clean and the pot shelves which were greasy. There was no frying pan large or small so we were unable to cook the steaks we brought with us. There was no welcome letter and no-one called by or phoned to welcome us or check that we had everything we needed. Neither were we provided with a telephone number for the property manager. Despite the lack of customer care we still had a lovely break and the staff in the coffee shop and the gardens were all very friendly.

A very warm, quiet, comfortable cottage.

A very warm, quiet, comfortable cottage. Access to the grounds at Mellerstain is a real treat, and makes the cottage special. The area is full of things to do, great walks, lovely country, lots of history. I would happily go again. The wifi works very well (not always the case in holiday rentals) but there is no mobile signal. The kitchen equipment is functional but if you are a keen cook take your 'must haves' with you. The visit of Mellerstain House is a must, superb architecture, wonderful furniture, works of art, museum pieces and very friendly, informative guides who obviously love their jobs. Last but not least, a superb garden with spectacular views on the Cheviots.

Mellerstain is a magnificent house in a beautiful location with lovely gardens to which we had free access during our stay. The Clock House was a very well presented and comfortable cottage looking onto the courtyard, cafe and gift shop (which were only open when the gardens were). The dogs were very welcome too and loved their walks around the grounds.

Some small issues dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Some small issues dealt with quickly and efficiently. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. I don’t expect these small issues to happen again. We will be booking this cottage again. The walks round the estate are lovely and the whole place is dog friendly.
