  • The Best Vacation I've Ever Had

"Tops is tops. The house is modern, but equally comfortable and well-equipped. During our stay, we frequented restaurants, but mostly cooked in the wonderful kitchen. There were three of us, and the house has three bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer which came in useful toward the end of our amazing ten-day stay. Kathy and Bob, the owners, were incredibly helpful. When we arrived, there was a wonderful lasagne, wine, water, and beer waiting for us. Kathy came over and provided vital information, giving a cell phone to us for local calls, recommending markets and restaurants. We have so many favorites, from Friday night happy hour at Bacchus Fine Foods and Wine to the beautiful bay front restaurant, 1648. We loved getting cocktails at The Buccaneer, talking with locals, and eating breakfast at the bottom of the hill, at Da Perk. Tops is at the top of the hill in Governor's Harbour, a short walk west to groceries and restaurants or a short walk east to the beach. The house is centrally located on the island with all the amenities of home. We were able to travel north and south, to the Blue Hole (a 600 ft-deep swimming hole affected by the tides), to Rock Sound, which has a great grocery and liquor store (south), and then north to James Cistern, Rainbow Bay, Surfer's Beach, and to Hatchet's Cave (not to be missed). The snorkeling was shallow, but incredible at Rainbow Bay when the wind was blowing out of the east. LeoRose is a great roadside place on the Queen's Highway to sidle up to the bar for a drink, some pumpkin rice, and admire the Caribbean sea. Gregory Town has great shopping, Handmade in Bahamas was an amazing place. I got some Batik fabric. There is also a wonderful bakery, but nothing rivals the bakery in Governor's Harbour. Don't miss out. It's scrumptious and SUPER affordable. Also, go to Island Farm (south, but not far from Governor's Harboour.) Just down the road from Tops is the most beautiful beach on the whole island, French Leave. We snorkeled and swam there as much as possible. Tippy's Bar and Restaurant, on the southern end of French Leave is great for a cocktail with a stellar view. We meant to eat there, but didn't get to it on this trip. Next trip for sure! I can't say enough about Tops. The home, the landscaping, the pool, were fantastic, whether you want to just relax and stay central in Governor's Harbour or go off exploring, you can't beat returning to Tops."

  • Beautiful Beach Villa

"This was a family vacation with five adults, and a very active 3 year old toddler. Our experience was for the most part very positive.  The accommodations were amazing. Everyone having a bathroom was outstanding. The "dark skies" were perfect for star gazing and watching shooting stars. A telescope would have been nice. The property was lovely, with a few reservations: the under counter and under hood range lights did not operate. Since we prepared several meals it was a concern, made food prep a little difficult. We would recommend bringing food staples and snacks, if at all possible. Groceries are expensive if you plan to prepare meals on site. After a heavy rain, (the only one we experienced), there was a significant leak through the AC unit in the dining room. No one came to check on it until the next day after calling when it occurred. We did notice some deferred maintenance on the property. CeCe was very helpful with recommendations for dining in the area, best beaches, etc. This was our first visit to Eleuthera and the Bahamas. We would consider revisiting. We do recommend bringing games since there were none available at the residence for those afternoons lazing about the pool area or indoors. If you wish to snorkel, bring your own equipment since there is none on the property or close by."

  • Secluded property in paradise

"We really enjoyed our time on Windermere Island. The house is very nice and the bedrooms are spacious! Each has access to a bathroom including the single twin bedroom. The living area is open and nice for enjoying family. The home is nicely furnished and had lots of books, games, snorkels, and fins. There were lots of beach towels as well. We hired a chef, Kaynell Scavella, to prepare our meals and she was delightful. We planned each meal in advance and the food was amazing! We all miss Kaynell and Pebbles and the conch fritters. You can take the pool chairs to the beach - but it's not easy. So, we rented beach chairs and extra kayaks. The double kayak at Hamilton House is very nice. However, it's not recommended that you use these at the beach in front of the house as the water is rough and not as smooth as the Savannah Sound. Bobbette's (caretaker for the home) husband was able to take these over to the sound where the waters are calm, beautiful, and full of sea turtles. We really enjoyed kayaking there each day and it's a short bike ride away. The beach is very private (I think we saw 3 families the entire week). The home is situated near other cottage like homes that flank each side of Hamilton house down towards the beach (not visible in the picture of the property). I was thankful that we had a car as there are so many beautiful places to explore on Eleuthera. We spent one morning at Oceanview Farm near Governor's Harbour riding horses next to the ocean. I highly recommend this if you love horses. It was a treat for the group. We also hired Donald (Eleuthera Tours) to take us out to the Marker Cays. We snorkeled and found lots of sea biscuits and conch shells there. The boat was very small, but it was very nice and perfect for our family. We rode our bikes each night over to a dock at the end of the street to watch the sunset each night which was our favorite way end to each day. The home has good wifi and we only had one power outage (which is very common in the Bahamas). Fortunately, it didn't last very long. We traveled over to Harbour Island ($5/per person) for the day which was really fun. We rented a golf cart ($50) there and enjoyed lobster quesadilla's at Sip Sip. Finally, Matthew Simon (property manager), was extremely responsive and provided lots tips and helpful information to make our vacation truly special. If you are looking for a secluded piece of paradise - you will enjoy Hamilton House."

  • Far better than expected!

"Being better than expected was difficult given the lofty expectations before arriving...However, that is precisely what happened. Every aspect of this trip to Provender House created the absolute best trip our family has ever taken. I can't say enough about the beautiful accommodation and location. If you are looking for your own slice of paradise away from throngs of people, this is the perfect choice. We began every day on the exquisite deck overlooking the beach and ended every evening on it. The house is set up perfectly for a beach getaway. I was skeptical after reading the review about barely seeing anyone while visiting in July. I believe we saw 4 people in seven days on a 2 mile stretch of beach. This was exactly what we were looking for. The reefs in the water made for incredible snorkeling and spear fishing for our 16 year old son and his best friend. The safety, freedom, clubhouse and private location (and wifi in the house) made for the perfect getaway for our 14 year old daughter and her best friend. The 100 foot walk to the beach made it perfect for my wife and I. William, the caretaker was the most gracious, hospitable person I have ever encountered. He and his wife, Bobbette, made sure that everything we needed was provided as it related to the house. Matt Simon was such a wealth of knowledge of Eleuthera and provided us very valuable information in advance of our first trip to Eleuthera and Windermere Island. I want the owner of this property to know how much we enjoyed our stay and that Provender House is such a precious gem on a perfect stretch of white/pink sand beach. It has truly created memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. Without a doubt, our family will be looking to travel back to Provender House each summer for the foreseeable future."
