  • What we were looking for

"We have rented flats and houses on this site and others throughout Europe and North America and consider ourselves savvy renters. The holiday rental experience is a cocktail consisting of 1 part diligent research, 1 part good two way communication and 1 part pure leap of faith. When you get what you expect based on photos, reviews and owner feedback, that's success. Our 7 night stay at Ocean Hollow turned out to be what we were seeking and what we expected. Our key requirement was to be beachfront and Ocean Hollow's location on the west side of the island met that requirement - in spades. We spent many relaxing hours eating meals, reading our books and watching the surf on the comfortable deck metres from the ocean. Others have noted that getting in for a swim is a "rocky" experience. My partner is a capable swimmer and diver and had no difficulty (bring water shoes); but if you are seeking endless beach days swimming off a sandy beach and baking in the sun, stick to an all-inclusive. If instead you are looking for a private, quiet, well-furnished self-catered experience, with the ability to visit lovely restaurants (you will need a car, be willing to take taxis, or take local buses as we often did) this house if for you. We enjoyed our week immensely. Bonus points given for: helpful and lovely interactions with Chloé, outdoor hot shower, washer/dryer/, lightning fast wifi, big screen TV to watch the Academy Awards, the incredibly gracious and helpful locals, and more. Constructive feedback to owners: It may be time for a small cash outlay for some additional kitchen basics (tools and staples), new linens, firmer and newer mattresses, better kitchen and bathroom lighting, and yes, please think about doing something about those treacherous master bathroom stairs, as one reviewer pointed out. Thank you!"

  • Amazing!

"Spent 3 weeks in Barbados and enjoyed our stay in the Captains Cottage in Holetown. The house was close to the beach, pool and grocery stores. Only a 10 minute walk. Veronica the housekeeper was very helpful and always available and checked up on us regularly. Owner was also very accommodating. Lots of restaurants in the area. The bus service iseasy to use and the people are very friendly. Would definitely stay in this house again if I go to Barbados again."

"Myself, my partner and two friends recently stayed at 4 Mango Court and it was absolutely fabulous. The location is great – completely private and quiet but within easy reach of everything you might require. It’s a 5 minute walk to the ultimate postcard beach (with very few people on it!), 1 minute walk from a bus stop (with frequent buses to Holetown, Speighstown and Bridgetown at 2 Bagan dollars a ride) and a 15 minute walk to Holetown (restaurants and shacks line the road en route, so there is always a meal available if you can’t be bothered to cook! Your closest supermarket is here). We ate out a lot as supermarket goods are expensive unless they are made on the Island (for example, milk is £4 a pint, but rum is £12 a litre… Needless to say we drank a lot of rum!). The villa is chic, airy and has excellent facilities (air con, super modern bathrooms, well-appointed kitchen, comfy beds, plenty of towels etc.). A real benefit to the place was the large flexible downstairs living space, which opened out onto the pool. We had some lovely indoor/outdoor meals under cover out the midday sun, whilst still enjoying nature around us (we spotted Monkeys on a couple of days). There is also a gorgeous terrace off the master bedroom, ideal for if you fall out with your family… I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, Barbados is such a wonderful place and the accommodation really made it for us. You will see us again!"
