Enjoy the view in Weehawken
As well as being immortalized on canvas in Edward Hopper's 1934 oil painting East Wind Over Weehawken, this family-friendly town was the site of one of America's most famous conficts – the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr in 1804. It's also the western terminus of the Lincoln Tunnel, which cuts through the middle of the town and links Weehawken to Manhatten. As well as giving you easy access to the bars, restaurants and museums of Manhattan, a Weehawken vacation rental is within easy reach of the town's many points of interest and year-round attractions.
Weehawken's battling past
The town of Weehawken is known for the Burr-Hamilton duel, memorialized in the Alexander Hamilton Monument next to Hamilton Park. There's also a striking 9/11 memorial on the waterfront. Sports fans will enjoy a visit to Weehawken Stadium for baseball and soccer, while culture vultures should make time to visit the Hudson Theatre Works at Weehawken Water Tower. One of the town's newest attractions is the recreation pier at Harbor Boulevard, featuring an innovative 'pod' design and a series of interconnected walkways and platforms that spread over 400ft into the Hudson River.
Weehawken - a town for all seasons
One of the best times to visit Weehawken is spring, from April to June, when the temperatures are mild – although it can be prone to rain, so do pack an umbrella. Weehawken can get hot and humid during the summer months, and cold during the winter, with temperatures dropping down to the low 30s. But there's never a bad time to book a Weehawken vacation rental - this is the city that never sleeps, after all. Just make sure you book early for vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the entire New York metropolitan area can get very crowded.
See Manhattan from high in Weehawken
Set on the western shore of the Hudson River, the town of Weehawken is located at the southern end of the Palisades, a 20 mile-long line of steep cliffs that run along the river. At Weehawken, they reach a height of 300ft, and from up here you'll get a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline, particularly at sunset and sunrise. The view is uninterrupted thanks to local laws that prohibit the construction of high-rise buildings that could obstruct the view. Get the best views from Hamilton Park, which is within easy reach of downtown Weehawken vacation rentals.
