  • Very nice and well kept

"This is a beautiful, very adequate home for a four generation family which we were; ages ranging from 1 1/2 yrs. old to 79!  It had easy access to the beach and with the outside showers, we were able to keep the house pretty sand free.  The pool made for a nice retreat after a day on the  beach and was adequate for most of the family to enjoy.  The owners were quick to respond to a pool problem that we did not even realize that we had!!  The way the house is laid out made it nice with most of the bedrooms on the second floor and with the kitchen (which was very well  stocked with  plenty of good quality dishes, etc. ) on the upper floor and plenty of space in the living and dining area.  We would definitely recommend this house for a family  reunion, vacation, etc. and would return to it if we were to get together as a family again.  Lisa was so quick to respond to any questions and was a great help."

  • Family relaxation at the beach

"My husband and I wanted a quiet month at the beach. We chose this property to have plenty of space and private bathrooms for family members we wanted to join us. That worked out really well. The open-concept living area and the decks provided all the space we needed to be together. Four bedrooms with ensuite baths gave folks a place to retreat. We were a group of age 55+ adults. We also needed pet-friendly to accommodate my sister's Yorkie. This house met all our needs. The house and furnishings are a bit worn around the edges, but the necessary stuff was in working order and water pressure in the showers was awesome. Full size washer and dryer are convenient on the bedroom level. We were told that the kitchen is scheduled for refurbishment after our stay. Location is key on a less crowdEd part of the island, about equal distance between grocery shopping in either Surf City or Snead's Ferry. It was a long haul (20 mi round-trip) to a couple of our favorite restaurants on the south end of the island, but we considered it worth the drive. We had good communication with the owner, but it became a bit frustrating after he connected us with the management company he uses. Fortunately we had time to work out the communication issues and all came together well in advance of our arrival. As with most beach houses, there are a lot of stairs. Having a bedroom and bath on the main living area makes it easier for someone who can't do stairs multiple times daily. The exterior stairs and deck are rough with splinters and popped nails. Be careful and wear shoes. This is a wonderful retreat for the family who needs public and private space within the house, expansive beach and views, and doesn't mind getting in the car for anything other than beach time."

  • Annual Topsail Summer trip

"This home is one of our favorites. We have been coming to TI for nearly 20 years and have rented many homes; Sur La Mer has just the right amount of space and amenities for our families. I think this was our 4th or 5th time staying here. Kristin is wonderful to work with and is quick to answer any questions. The house is always clean and the kitchen is well supplied. We were pleased to find so many left spices and extras that we rarely had to run to the grocery. There are plenty of utensils and things you don't find in other homes. We did a few roasts and were surprised to find a meat thermometer. You wouldn't find that in other places. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of room for all with lots of seating around the table. We visited the turtle hospital in Surf City on Monday. Be aware they have limited hours and the wait can be quite long standing in the hot sun just to get in; not easy on little ones or elderly. We did learn a lot about the turtles and this year we were delighted to witness sea turtles hatching just a few houses down. We also watched dolphins from the covered porches. It was super hot outside so we only used the volleyball court once. If you are looking for a home away from home, a place for all ages and a place with plenty of parking, this is the place to rent."
