  • Probably the best designed vacation home I've ever seen.

"It's hard for me to add meaningfully to the years of overwhelmingly positive reviews you can read here -- honestly, they're pretty much right about all of it. This property is a gem. What I'll say is that unlike a lot of vacation homes I've stayed in, everything about the lodge really *worked*. All of the bathrooms and the kitchen actually vented outside (so, taking showers or cooking a stew didn't steam everyone). The central air actually propagated very well throughout the property -- not the usual "2nd floor is an oven while the first feels like the north pole". Thoughtful chandelier-style lighting and ceiling fans were absolutely everywhere (including the centerpiece deck / porch); and, I never had to hunt for a power outlet when I needed one. The "summer camp" theme is strong throughout the property, and made the place feel so much more like I'd gotten away from my city home -- the pictures simply don't do the place justice. Windows are placed strategically throughout so that you're never spiritually far from the pleasantly woodsy setting, and the tall vaulted ceiling was both visually handsome, and a treat for the ears in the rain. The layout of the property was very conducive to making spaces for people to get together and talk or play, while leaving plenty of room for some quiet reading when a bit more solitude was wanted. We honestly never missed the lack of Cable TV -- which is an endorsement all by itself. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked and had room for two to comfortably work, and the dishwasher was a life-saver that did a better job than mine at home. About the only thing I really missed during our stay was a tub for soaking after a long day's hike, but it's hard to complain when there were 3 very nice showers and plentiful hot water. We're all very much looking forward to coming back next year!"

  • New favorite cabin!

"Mary's Ivy Cabin is superb! Even though we contacted her just a week before, Mary was happy to fit us in, and we are so glad she did. When you walk into a new rental house there's always the "oh no, what am I getting into..." moment, but as soon as we turned on the lights we were thrilled! The cabin is adorable, mostly one giant room with a large, comfortable sitting area, a well-appointed little kitchen, a dining table, and a perfect little pot-bellied wood stove in the middle to keep the place cozy. Mary supplied us with a huge bin of lovely smelling wood to burn, and we spent Friday and Saturday nights alternating between chatting in the 2 rocking chairs in front of the fire, and chatting in the giant, clean/new hot tub on the porch. The hot tub looks over the stream, and it's really perfectly situated. The cabin is at the end of a dead-end road with just one house nearby, on the other side of the house from the hot tub/deck, so it feels very private and peaceful. The stream is lovely and loud and beautiful, we walked along it quite a ways and even found a treehouse! We loved turning the hot tub jets off to listen to nature for a while -- then turning the jets and laptop back on to revel in human technology. :) The one bedroom is cute, with a comfy full-sized bed, and there is a big loft for kids or a second couple! The whole place is beautifully decorated with art from various cultures and lots of plants. The bathroom is fine, it did seem to get a bit of septic smell occasionally so we kept the door closed -- consider bringing a scented candle or two for the bathroom + bedroom since they are right next to each other. That is the only concern of any kind we had at Mary's beautiful Ivy Cottage. It was easy getting in, cleaning up, and a wonderful place to stay. Mary is very sweet and acommodating and was easy to communicate with. I already look forward to going back next time we need a quiet nature weekend - with a hot tub!"

  • Very Nice Place

"Very pretty place in a very pretty location. Beds and inside and outside furniture are well thought out and very comfortable. Kitchen is large and has pretty much all of the gadgets and pots and pans you could want. Place was very clean when we arrived. Having sheets and towels is a plus. Gas fireplace inside was great for the cool evenings and mornings. Wood fireplace on back deck made a great place to hang and talk. Bike trails across the road. Great hiking. Lake is beautiful and Huntington with great grocery stores is very close. On a low traffic road. Can't say enough good things about the rental and have no bad things. Rent it, you won't regret it."

  • Juniata College Mom from New Jersey

"We have stayed at hotels, motels, cabins, and trailers while visiting my son at Juniata college but none of our stays compared to our stay at the farmhouse. I wish we knew about this gem of a rental before. The farm was clean, spacious, warm and had everything and more in household needs that you could think of. The sunroom/observation room was a treat. Our first night we saw a black bear in the back woods. We also saw porcupines, deer, racoons, and bunnies in the back woods on the following nights. Our dog was in Springer Spaniel heaven jumping in and out of the babbling fresh water Creek next to the property. I would like to come back for a full week to get more hiking in at the state land that border the property."
