  • A wonderful hideaway on the Olympic Peninsula

"My wife and I were visiting our daughter, an emergency medicine resident at U. of W. in Seattle, and we all wanted to get out of the city, chill and explore. This turned out to be the perfect place. As other reviews note, the cabin is rustic but not at all rough. It was spacious and charming, with wood paneling and a large open living/dining/kitchen area, a breakfast bar, a well furnished kitchen, and two very ample and comfortable bedrooms, each with its own modern and well-appointed bath. Jean has added some artistic touches that bring the ambiance of the nearby beach to the place. The place was so relaxed, inviting and comfortable that, although we'd planned to go into Port Angeles at least once for dinner, we just ended up staying in the cabin and cooking together. One morning Jean and her husband checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, and were so congenial that we decided to take a walk together to the nearby Elwha River and then back along the beach to their house. (There is also direct access to the beach from the cabin by just walking across their yard.) It also turned out to be a perfect base for exploring the northwest part of the Peninsula - one day we visited the very beautiful Lake Crescent (which has a very picturesque lodge with an excellent bar and restaurant overlooking the lake) and hiked from a nearby trailhead; another day we drove west to Neah Bay, visited the fascinating Makah reservation museum with a full-size reconstruction of a coastal longhouse, watched the sunset from the beach at Makah Bay, and drove back to the cabin in time to make dinner and happily collapse. All-in-all it was a perfect stay. This time we did it in the Fall; we hope to come back in the Summer, which must be spectacular."

  • Great Place

"Great Place, all the amenities you can need and then some, clean with clear instructions on how stuff works. We have 2 young boys and they loved being able to go to the creek and run around in the yard. For us it was exactly what we were looking for as far as the Olympic experience. There's some other houses around but you don't see or hear anything. In reference to the other review and it being far away from everything. Most things in the Olympic peninsula are far away from the others. We were there for the Lavender festival and exploring the park, beaches and Cape Flattery. The Park is huge, Hoh is hours away from Hurricane ridge, Rialto and Cape Flattery same thing. All and all the location is as central as it gets. The house is a very pretty 20 minute drive from Post Angeles where you can find everything you need including the ferry to Victoria and some great restaurants. The rental company was very professional and I really hope to be able to visit there again."
