Amazing House, Amazing Place

My husband, dog, and I stayed for a month in this beautiful house. It has a veranda looking out over the valley, comfy beds, beautiful pool, and amazing kitchen. Although it is about 6km from the city center, it is such a relaxing spot it is worth the commute to be able to return to the tranquility after language school or tourism. There are lots of opportunities to hike from just outside the door in the oak forest, rich birdlife in and around the property, and a real rural experience (livestock, farming, and wed. market in town). I studied spanish at Instituto Cultural in Oaxaca City. There are buses and taxis that you can take, we had a rental car which we used but it isn't necessary. The house is super well maintained, clean, and stocked. The water is drinkable out of the kitchen faucet, the staff is helpful and skillful, and I am already thinking about when I can return.

Our family stayed in El Estudio for a week in April 2011 and had a wonderful time. The house was a fantastic base for our visits and adventures in Oaxaca and the nearby towns. Based on the photos, descriptions, and comments from others that we read on this website we had very high expectations and were hoping not to be disappointed. Immediately upon our arrival we realized that the house exceeded our expectations. The house is beautiful and incredibly well equipped. The kitchen is amazing with a fantastic stove, a Cuisinart blender perfect for making mango margaritas, and all the dishes and cooking supplies that one could ever want. We enjoyed cooking our breakfasts in the morning in this amazing kitchen and I took advantage of the grill outside in the evenings and made great dinners. The beds in the bedrooms are lusciously comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. The house is beautifully decorated with different types of Oaxacan crafts (rugs, pottery, walling hangings, and woodwork) that make the house charming. We felt completely comfortable in the house and enjoyed every minute of our stay. El Estudio is an ideal place to stay as a base for visiting the interesting and beautiful region of Oaxaca.

My husband and I spent last February in this lovely home. Extremely well-equipped (cooking utensils, spices, basics for cooking, even drinking water was supplied), full of wonderful folk art. Pool is lovely (although quite cool still in Feb.!) Florencio, a handyman par excellence, helped with any difficulties. I will say that the computer provided was old, slow, and quite unsatisfactory, so I would recommend bringing your own. We had friends joining us for varying periods of time during the month, and there was plenty of room. Also, the neighbors were most enjoyable.

This is a wonderful house, better than we expected, the pictures do not do it justice. The neighbors and property manager are very nice, full of information and help make your stay a great experience. It is a great house for friends traveling together or a family. We are a couple and enjoyed having the whole place to ourselves.

El Estudio was a much needed vacation for us! Gene, the owner, made our stay so easy. I exchanged many emails with him about logistics since we were bringing our 5 month old baby with us. He was prompt and extremely helpful. There were 4 adults and a baby in our party and enough room to spread out. We never felt cramped. The house was immaculate when we got there. We even were able to become inspired by some of the decorations in El Estudio for our own house in the States. There are several outdoor areas to relax, so you get several different views. We were able to have the pool all to ourselves during some of the warm days and then watch the sun set with our neighbors (all very easy-going people, who also provide a wealth of information). We had 2 meals cooked for us at the house while we were there and both were wonderful. Florencio was very helpful in so many areas. I had to call him very early in the morning on our last day because one of us came down with a nasty illness. He was at the house in less than 20 minutes with medications in hand. I would recommend a car if staying at the house since it made things easier with the baby. We had a great time and can't wait to go back soon!

A Beautiful Place

Beautiful house, even more then the photos show, now that the kitchen is painted in warm and wonderful colors. The kitchen, as well as all the appliances and amenities were excellent. We stayed with another couple and made some memorable meals, mostly on the 2 outdoor patios with their wonderful views. Hiking into the hills above the house was a fine activity, as was watching the sunset by the pool. Florencio, the friendly (English speaking) caretaker, keeps the place in excellent condition, left food and cold beer in the fridge for our late arrival, and was totally available to help out in any way possible. While there is bus and taxi service to Oaxaca we rented a car from the airport. For the cautious driver this may be a little daunting, but if you relax, go with the flow, and stay focused, having the car will afford you more flexibility. Velocity is controlled by numerous speed bumps which require some caution. The location, up a hill off the main highway (190), gives good access to Oaxaca city, and the major craft towns and tourist attractions. Also conveniently at the bottom of the hill (3 K from the house) is a tasty taco restaurant, a supermarket, a roasted chicken take-out place, and a good seafood restaurant. While Oaxaca state is full of fascinating places to visit, the house, and its surrounding scenery, is just so delightful that we found ourselves spending several days just enjoying being there. Highly recommended.

I spent a wonderful two weeks in this lovely hillside home. It is beautifully furnished with a complete kitchen, lots of interesting Oaxacan artwork as the decor, spacious and bright. The pool is fantastic! The neighbors are warm and friendly. The ruins and surrounding villages, each with their own distinctive craft and special market days, are well worth a visit. Local ladies prepared dinner for us which was delicious and I even learned how to make two of the seven moles. Plenty of things to do and see but also a place for R & R. Would love to vacation here again.

Our stay at this lovely home was wonderful. It is comfortably furnished with all amenities and many excellent examples of Oaxacan handicrafts. The friendly neighbors, pool with terrific vista, and the nightly sunset gathering were all pluses. It's a great location for exploring the ruins and visiting craft villages as well as Oaxaca city.
