Welcome to the Grouse Hunt, a wonderful little hunting lodge that has been in our family for four generations. The cabin started out as my great grandfather's barn and was converted into a hunting lodge in the mid 90' s by my uncle.

We have owned the GH since 2003; it is more than a rental, it is our home away from home for one month every summer and we have decided to share this jewel with you!

We'll be honest, the GH isn't "conveniently located," but that's why we like it so much. My daughter says it's the edge of nowhere, so if it's tourist traps you are looking for, this isn't your place.

However, if you are looking for a chance to truly get away and enjoy the quiet, you will love it here. You will have water access to a publicly used boat landing on Duck Lake which is directly one half mile down the road. There are several lakes very close by where you can swim, directions are provided at the cabin.

From Duck Lake you can continue on to over 24,000 acres of prime kayaking and northern fishing waters. Duck Lake gives seasonal access to Junior Lake, Scraggly Lake, Bottle Lake, Keg Lake, Norway Lake, West Grand Lake, Grand Lake Stream, and others.

Fish available include Small-Mouth Bass, White Perch, Pickerel, Lake Trout (Togue), brook trout, Salmon, and others. Walk quietly and you may catch a glimpse of moose, deer, black bears, partridge (Ruffed Grouse), ducks, rabbits, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, wild turkeys, the haunting loon, majestic bald eagles(we see several at the lake every summer...they are impressive!) and over 150 species of other birds.

If hunting and fishing are your thing, please check online with the State of Maine for license requirements and regulations.

The house is available year round and has modern conveniences, including central oil heating, an open living area and great room upstairs, a well-equipped kitchen, and an outdoor gas grill. Housekeeping cabin:you do basic cleaning-list provided. You can bring your own linens or use ours. We will leave instructions.

There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. One (full size bed) BR is downstairs and the bath downstairs has a large walk-in shower with a seat, making us very wheelchair friendly.

We are constantly upgrading furniture. Our goal is to have space for 20 by mid summer(July), but we will always have room for at least 14. There is a nice backyard beside an open deck and a small fire pit for making smores on warm summer evenings.

Stroll, jog, ATV, mountain bike, snowshoe, cross country ski, or snowmobile on miles of woodland trails. You are only a quarter mile from the Quad County Snowmobile Trails (check out their website), which connect you to the ITS trails all over the state! Enjoy breathtaking vistas from nearby mountaintops.

When evening settles, share the night sky with your family - so dark and clear that you can actually see the Milky Way. Don't forget your camera to capture glorious sunsets, sweeping panoramas, and reflections of clouds on the water.

We love pets and we will consider them on a case by case basis. Please leave scratchers, biters, chewers, untrained animals and flea infested furry friends at home. No "mean" dogs (Rottweiler's, pit bulls, etc) allowed. (I know...YOUR pit bull is a sweet thing and wouldn't hurt a flea...but we don't want to take any chances!)We charge a $100 nonrefundable pet fee.

Come to Lakeville and enjoy a real, Maine woods-and-water vacation.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2003

My name is Tricia(Moores)Cliff. I am married to Mike and have four wonderful children. I am a nurse and my husband is a HS principal. We currently live in NC. I grew up in the great state of Maine, two miles away from this rental, which was at one point, my great grandfather's barn. Most of family still live in the area.

Why the Owner Chose Lakeville

We bought the Grouse Hunt from my cousins in 2003 because my Uncle Sterling, and avid grouse hunter, died and we didn't want it to leave the family. It is a beautiful cabin, filled with nostalgia for us. We look forward to coming every summer and reconnecting with the past. Lakeville is an idyllic community (population 63). You will feel that you have stepped back into the 1950' s. I work in NC for 11 months...but I LIVE in Maine for one.

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

Our cabin is not just a rental...it is our home. If it's quiet you are looking for, this is your place. Standing on the deck at night, hearing the loons call and looking at the Milky Way is breath taking...I grew up here, and it still surprises me every year. The surrounding area is beautiful. My husband often says that it's impossible to take a bad picture in Maine. Come and enjoy!
