This apartment is ideally placed very near the famous Marbella beach and promenade, park, Old Town and Harbour. Restaurants, cafes, bars and designer shops are all local, and there is a good bus service to the airport (45 minutes by bus, approx. 30 minutes by taxi). A car to meet you at the airport can be arranged.
Marbella is surrounded by mountains, creating a microclimate which creates mild winters and pleasant summers. The average annual temperature is 19C and the sun shines on average 320 days a year.
As well as the usual holiday past-times you can go sightseeing in the Old Town - see the remains of the ancient town wall and the Roman fountain in Orange Square, sit amongst the Salvador Dali sculptures in the Avenida del Mar, or stroll through the charming Bonsai Museum. The Museum of Spanish Contemporary Engravings, set in an old convent building, has work by Picasso and Miro. The Paseo (seafront Promenade), with its well-tended palm and orange trees, is ideal for an evening stroll or a morning jog. There is a a Roman villa just west of the town.
The university city of Malaga is within easy reach to visit the botanical gardens and museums (including the reknown Picasso Museum). Drive to Refugio de Juanuar (17k) for great walks in the Sierra Blanca, or explore the spectacular scenery at the hillside town of Ronda. The narrow, white-washed streets of the traditional 'Pueblos Blancos' (white villages), perched up in the mountains, are well worth a visit. Puerto Banus, the 'St. Tropez of Spain', is also near, and you can now walk or cycle there along the seashore promenade and get the ferry back to the harbour - or a bus if you prefer. There are also two excellent air-conditioned shopping centres within easy reach by bus.
Consider timing your visit to enjoy one of the many ferias (festivals), when people take to the streets to celebrate. For example, in January there is the Three Kings procession on Twelfth Night (when the Spanish traditionally give and receive their presents), the many extraordinary religious processions of Easter week (Semana Santa), the Marbella feria in June, or the Malaga feria in August.
For a longer stay, Marbella is an excellent base for other trips. For example, you can get the bus to Gibraltar, for naval history and whale-watching trips as well as duty-free shopping, or the ferry to Morocco from Algeçiras. There are excellent National Parks with much wildlife to see in the surrounding area. You can get buses or drive to the ancient cities of Seville, Cordoba or Granada, where you can see the Moorish influence on architecture, design, and cuisine, and experience a visit to a Hammam (bathhouse).

Marbella is a sophisticated town on the Costa del Sol with an ideal climate and attractive beach, historical Old Town and international shopping. It is about 40 minutes from Malaga airport and city and within driving distance to national parks.
The gardens and narrow streets are lovely to explore, and then sit in Orange Square with a coffee or a drink and listen to the cool sound of the Roman fountain. Explore the old town church, which sometimes offers free concerts. Wander among the Salvador Dali statues, or admire the collection of bonsai trees in one of the many parks.
Marbella is located in the coastal territory of Andalusia, which fuses historical Iberian and Moorish traditions to give the Spain of flamenco, sherry and tapas, bullfights and bull-running, and beautiful tiles and ceramics. You'll also find ancient cave-paintings, Roman remains, and Moorish castles and towers, often set in spectacular scenery.
For a longer stay, after exploring Marbella you may like to take the luxury Exprés bus to Malaga to see the Roman amphitheatre, the Picasso Museum or new Carmen Thyssen Collection. Or to take a trip to Ronda, dramatically set on the Rio Guadalquivir amongst the forest and mountains of the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazelema, to see the first bullring. See the traditional Pueblos Blancos (White Villages) in the mountains and taste the local food and wines. Walk along the Paseo by the sea to Puerto Banus and get the ferry back after lunch.
