Laughing Hippo is the classic mountain cabin named after a beloved Grandfather. This two bedroom one bath beauty is located high on a mountain in the Cherry Log community half way between Ellijay and Blue Ridge. Its tranquil setting is just what you need to wind down from your hectic daily schedule. All of the living area is located on one level and there are only four easy steps to get in. There are two queen bedrooms and one full bath with a tub/shower combo. The living room is clean and comfortable with seating for four facing the wood burning fireplace and a flat screen TV/DVD with cable programming and WIFI. The kitchen has everything you need to keep the family happy and seating for four as well. The laundry is also located on this level. Kick back on the screened in porch and watch nature pass by in the wooded valley below. Downstairs on the covered patio you will find a picnic table, swing, gas grill with a spare tank, and a wood burning stove. There is even a double size hammock and another flat screen TV waiting for you and a dart board too. Feeling ambitious, the Benton Mackaye hiking trail passes only a couple hundred yards away. Please respect our guests with allergies, sorry no pets at Laughing Hippo. With easy access to highway 515 it is a breeze to get here, no 4WD needed. Perfectly located for day trips to Blue Ridge and north into Tennessee and the Ocoee River, Ellijay, Carters Lake, Amicalola Falls and the wineries of Gilmer County and Dahlonega, there is even an old time drive-in movie theater close by.

Cozy little cabin
My girlfriend and I loved our time at the cabin! Everything was great! If anything happens they go above and beyond trying to help you. My only recommendation is that you bring a laptop so you can stream Netflix on to the tv as there are not that many channels and it's nice to watch tv while in the hot tub.
Quiet, scenic, relaxing getaway. Just what we needed.
We loved the location of the property, as it was end of the road and away from other cabins in the area. Very comfortable with plenty of space to wander off to your own private corner. All the amenities you could ask for with a touch of simplicity. Just what the doctor ordered. Lots of local wildlife to appreciate with deer commonly passing through the nearby wooded areas. Absolutely beautiful environment. Can’t wait to visit again. This one is a favorite for sure!
Quiet and peaceful
We enjoyed our stay at the Laughing Hippo for our honeymoon. This is perfect to just get away and relax.
Awesome cabin on the mountain
Had a great time. Cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway, private yet still close to everything. Great communication with owner/manager.
Very nice vacation
The overall experience was great. The only disappointment was there was no firewood. We had to call to get it delivered so we did not have a fire the first night. There was a couple safety issues. One of the guardrails leading to the bottom was broken. The deck downstairs had a raised up platform. I tripped and fell walking to the back deck. I do not mean for this to sound like a bad review because my wife and I really enjoyed it and the cabin was very nice. The above is only suggestions for improvement. The cabin was clean and very comfortable.
The roads to get there could be improved but that was not the fault of the owner of the cabin. Overall a very enjoyable experience and we would recommend this cabin to anyone.
If I Tell Folks This Place Was Perfect, It Might Get Too Popular!
We had a ball! The cabin has what you need (except your own groceries, of course) and more, but the deck downstairs was incredible -- private, fun, relaxing -- just a happy place to be. We grilled steaks for supper, lounged in the hammock, ate at the picnic table watching nightfall engulf the gorge, watched some of the Olympics on TV from the hot tub, then retired to the very comfortable bed upstairs.
Of course there's everything others would say - how clean it was, how accommodating and helpful the realty folks were, etc. But our memories will be of the happy, sweet time we spent on the deck downstairs. (Therefore, the reason we don't want it to get too popular is that we want to go back as often as possible!)
