The accomodation was perfect central to the village and cafe and restaurants etc. Christine our host was responsive and very helpfull. The stairs in the property could be a problem for some people to navigate otherwise a lovely town house well equipped etc.
We visited Cassel between the date when the Tour-de-France drove through and just before the french school holidays. The town has many lovely niches and restaurants. Easy to reach the beaches and the aquarium with daytrips. If you have children we recommend the barn with the maize labyrinth.
Nice house with everything you need. We liked the different spaces at the different floors. Really nice and private outside area with sun during the whole day. Round bed was good as well (enough space for the both of us). Make a note that there is no wifi and sheets+towels are for rent or you can bring your own.
Cassel is cozy with different restaurants and take aways (pizza take out around the corner is really good!) and a nice spot from where you can explore the area (Lille, Dunkirk).
Top Gastgeberin.

Genoten!

A quirky, traditional villiage house in stunning Cassel
The house is well equipped and full of character. The family where very friendly and welcoming. There is a terrace on the top floor with views over the countryside. It was very hot while we were there so slept on the middle floors as heat definitely rises! The house is on a road but it’s not too busy. The stairs are very old and a little tricky for little ones and older people but they were fine for us once we were used to them.
Cassel is a beautiful town set on a hill. The central square has lots of restaurants, bars and cafes that are open most of the time, even Sunday and Monday. Most of them on the south side have lovely views out over the countryside for their rear terraces.
We drove to Lille (50mins) and Bruges (1hr30) but well worth a trip!

Lovely stay in a beautiful house
We came as a family of four to visit the grave of my husband's great grandfather, who died fighting the Spring offensive of 1918. We very much enjoyed staying in Cassel, which is a very picturesque town with stunning views. The house is lovely and well-equipped. As previous reviews have stated, the stairs are very steep - bring a torch for going to the bathroom at night if you are in the top bedroom! The owner lives round the corner, which is useful if anything goes wrong or if you have any questions. She couldn't have been more friendly and helpful at all stages of booking and staying.

A charming home in a beautiful and historic town
We stayed at Gite de Flandre from 2017-08-22 through 2017-08-30. We loved it!! The home was clean and well maintained. Christine, our gracious host, was extremely helpful and kind. Although we had a slight language gap (my extremely poor French along with her limited English), we found a way to communicate very well. I sincerely appreciated her patience with me as I did my best to communicate in French! The town of Cassel was a highlight for us - a great location for anyone wishing to have a convenient base of operations for a historical exploration of the area (we were visiting various significant sites from WWI). The people we met were extremely friendly and hospitable, without exception! We felt welcome at all times. We enjoyed the local bakeries and cafes thoroughly. The stairs in this home are steep, so I would recommend caution when using them. I would also suggest that those with physical or mobility limitations may find them difficult to navigate. Our time at this home, and in Cassel afforded us many memories that we will Cherish for a lifetime. Christine was a gracious and unforgettable host. We have told her that we intend to stay with her again, which I think is the highest compliment you can give. Thank you Christine. Thank you Cassel. Vive la France!

Good base for a trip to French (and Belgian) Flanders
A three-storey old Flemish house, which is tall and thin, quirky and stylishly renovated, pretty much as described, with no garden but a balcony on the top floor. Cassel is a hill town with a lot of history and an interesting walk round the former ramparts (about 50 mins drive over the border to Ypres and a bit less from Dunkirk.) The house is a few minutes walk from a boulangerie and main square of Cassel (with a number of restaurants/ cafes and a wifi hotspot at the tourist office. There is good, free on-street parking in a nearby square. A small Carrefour supermarket is about 10-15 mins walk away.
Despite changeable weather, we had a very enjoyable week and will consider returning.
