From your base, also head out to explore the magnificent Fens, spend time at Thetford Forest and visit Ely, 10.5 miles away, with its famous cathedral.

Follow the wooden steps up to the deck and make your way into this impressive, single-storey lodge. Enter to find light-filled, beautifully finished accommodation, with carefully chosen furniture and accessories. At the heart of the retreat is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with two sets of French doors that can be opened on to the deck to allow indoor/outdoor living. Relax in the lounge in front of the Smart TV or head over to the kitchen to prepare the next snack or meal. Perch at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine and sit down to celebratory meals at the dining table on those occasions you decide not to eat outside in the fresh air. As the day draws to a close, make your way through to one of the two lovely king-size bedrooms to lay your head on your pillow. There is also a family shower room in the lodge. Spend as much time as possible out on the deck, taking in the waterside views. Dine out here and enjoy a glass of wine or two as the sun goes down over the lakes.

Spend a morning fishing at the lakes in Pisces Country Park, 0.5 miles away. Stroll just over 2 miles along the river to wander through the tranquil Welney Wetland Centre, with its incredible array of wildlife. Plan a day out to the National Trust’s stately home, Oxburgh Hall, 22 miles away.
