About this property

Hideaway on Dartmoor, Uphill Coach House

Summary:

Uphill Coach House is an open plan, two bedroom detached building located within a private courtyard setting, with its own garden. Inside, the property is light and spacious, occupying the entire top floor of the building with original timber beams throughout.

Lustleigh is one of the prettiest villages on Dartmoor with a village shop and great pub. It’s an idyllic spot with beautiful walks of all sizes from the doorstep, and Dartmoor National Park - one of the UK's last great wildernesses.

The Space:

Uphill Coach House is Grade 2 listed and brimming with character and original features. It has its own private south west facing garden, contained within our 17th century walled garden, perfect for a morning coffee in the sun, or lunch/supper outside.

The property has a short steep staircase to climb for access and is not considered accessible by wheelchair.

Inside, the property is light and spacious, occupying the entire top floor of the building with beautiful original timber beams throughout. Built of local solid granite, the entrance to the building is via the ground floor, through the old stalls and original tack room and up a wooden staircase. You arrive in the open plan central space which incorporates the kitchen, dining and living room, with a door leading directly onto the private garden outside (via a couple of steps).  A large glazed opening in the central roof space gives extra light and beautiful views of the trees. The kitchen is brand new and well equipped with a full size fridge freezer, electric fan oven, dishwasher and double butler sink, with views through our round window to the trees beyond. Two bedrooms occupy each end of the central living space. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with ensuite bathroom containing a shower and full sized wooden top bath (please note this bathroom has an open ceiling to compliment the original architecture).  The second bedroom has two single beds and an enclosed ensuite shower room. The property has super fast broadband connection.  There is a smart TV, Digital Radio with speaker, board games, books and maps full of local information.  Outside in the courtyard there is parking available for one car (we can accommodate two by arrangement). We also have a ping pong table.

Guest Access:

Our house is adjacent to the property, where the hosts live, but the coach house retains a very private aspect.  The outside courtyard is a shared parking space (between yourselves and us).  The coach house has access to the garden which is contained within our 17th century walled garden and shared with the host.

Other Things to Note:

The ensuite bathroom to the Master bedroom does not have a ceiling, but is otherwise completely private. (when it was reconstructed the designers thought it would feel too enclosed and would block the light/space as the original beams run straight through the length of the building).

The ensuite shower room (with loo) does have a ceiling and is completely self contained.

Please also be aware that the entrance to the main courtyard is narrow (built for a horse cart!). Whilst it is wide enough to accommodate the width of a van, please do take care of your wing mirrors if you have a wide vehicle. Again, the local lanes are famously narrow, so do take care if you are not used to these conditions.

The property is on the first floor of the barn, and there is a short set of stairs to be climbed to access it.
