The owners, Mirjana and Miro, were waiting to welcome us and show us around the house when we arrived in Krnica. The house is very spacious and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. We made good use of every part of it. The large kitchen upstairs had a very useful second fridge.
Our first week was hot so we were grateful for the shady areas around the house - two porches and three balconies gave us room for manoeuvre. The pool was an absolutely perfect size and temperature for us, though a second sunshade beside it would have been nice, because none of us are great sunbathers. The garden area is very attractive with scented plants and flowers and a good area of grass for the children.
The centre of the village is a two minute stroll up the lane where there are a general store, post office and two well-established cafe-bar restaurants. A very good new restaurant, specialising in Istrian food rather than the ubiquitous pizza, opened at the end of our first week. Further afield, we made great use of the rocky shores where swimming and snorkelling in the sea are easily and freely accessible.
Pula is a lovely town with Roman remains and some attractive museums: we particularly enjoyed our visits to the Olive Oil and the MeMo museums. We also made a day trip to Istralandia Water Park about 50 minutes up the motorway, and enjoyed a visit to the old town of Labin.
Our three-generation family really enjoyed a happy two weeks in this lovely former family home.
