The Douglas Guest House was clean, comfortable and best of all--pet friendly!
The Douglas Guest House was exactly what we wanted for our family ski vacation to Juneau. Very clean and well appointed; great kitchen with everything we needed; easy parking; close to trails for hiking, skiing or snowshoeing; and a pleasant drive to the Eaglecrest Ski Area. Access was very easy and we were so very glad to be able to include our dog in this trip! So great to find a few VRBOs that are pet friendly! Thank you for providing excellent accommodations for human and canine travelers.
Loved the Guest House!
The apartment is beautiful, and a bonus was that it was clearly put together by people who enjoy cooking. The kitchen is well supplied with good utensils, and everything's in easy reach. This was a very comfortable place to be for a week in and around Juneau, and we appreciate the availability of the washer and dryer, since we're continuing our travels. I'd like to mention, and it's not criticism at all, that if mobility is an issue, there are some stairs that need to be negotiated getting in and out. The view of Mount Roberts, and the waterfall, is spectacular from the stairs!

A cozy and attractive spot!
We enjoyed our visit to the Douglas Guest House very much. It is well-appointed and very comfortable. The nearby hikes were fun and Douglas can boast some great pizza. A binder with info about the house systems (internet, TV, etc) would be a help, but the owners and neighbors were very kind.
Studio with enough space to accommodate a family of four...
We spent 7 full days in Juneau, getting to know the area and enjoying everything that SE Alaska has to offer. The Douglas Guest House was our home base. We had everything that we needed to cook our own meals, sleep comfortably (we are a family of 4), wash our clothes when needed, etc. If we return to Juneau, I would not hesitate to book again. The amenities are fantastic, and the price was very reasonable. We felt very comfortable in our home away from home, and we enjoyed our stay in Juneau very much!
This was a first time for me in Juneau, let alone Alaska. But it was a trip back home for my wife after being gone for 23 years. After looking around I found this diamond in the rough on VRBO. The owners are fast to respond and very accommodating. When I received the check in instructions it had everything I needed to know and more. Plus the washer and dryer were an added perk and helped out during our stay.
It is a studio, but feels much bigger than it sounds. It slept my wife and I and our 5 year old daughter very comfortably. My daughter loved the pull out trundle and we still had room for 1 more person on the day bed. The location of the Studio is perfect after a long day of being out and about in the city, visiting the Glacier or going out on the boat looking for Humpback Whales which we did see and they are amazing. There is a partial view of the Gastineau Channel, but the best part was a great nights sleep. The room is cozy and has everything you need to feel like you are at home. The kitchen has everything for cooking and a full sized refrigerator. It worked perfect for us.
Now back to the night sleeping. Nothing like a window open and listening to nature or the sounds of a distant ships horn in the morning. I slept the best I have in awhile. I met the neighbors when we were coming and going during the day and they are the most friendly folks I have met while on vacation. This studio is located on a cul-de-sac and has hiking trails leading from the house. It was our own piece of tranquility. My wife was glad to be home again, where she grew up and to show us the sites and sounds of Juneau. Best part of the trip was the smile on her face and my daughter running on Sandy Beach when the tide was out.
Another fun part is this Studio is walking distance to Sandy beach, but remember its uphill coming back, but a fun and relaxing walk it is. We went over the July 4th week and so many activities and so many cruise ships, but nothing was overly crowded at all. We could see the fireworks from Sandy Beach. I will stay here again in the future. If my daughter has any say it would be tomorrow.
As your looking at the pictures on VRBO of the Studio, it definitely doesn't do it justice as it is a lot more inviting and has a warm feeling to it. Enjoy as it was our piece of tranquility and I hope it is yours also.
2weeks was not long enough. But loved every minute
House was great. everything worked great. Second time staying here. May be back next summer sometime.
We love it when we have return guests! Juneau is such a great place to visit....so much to do and see! We are so happy to have a property there and it is fun to share our place with others!
