We enjoy the peace and serenity of this property away from it all. The staff is fabulous and they take great pride in cooking fabulous meals using local and fresh fruits and vegetables, cooking up the catch of the day, blending up banana con leches for breakfast, the list goes on and on. We love day trips to Playa Coco where we enjoy lunch, going to the beach and hopping on the boogie board and swimming. La Flor Turtle Refuge is very close by. We also love to take the boat out and soak up the atmosphere an fish, snorkel and have lunch. It truly is a beautiful setting where I can stop and pause, pick up a book, go on a hike and not have the normal distractions of daily life.
The actual property and the setting were even more glorious than the listing description. The house is perched on a cliff above the beach, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the sunsets! It is set in the trees and plantings of the dry rain forest around it and has parrots chattering as they zoom past and butterflies fluttering along.
The house was perfect. The downstairs master suite overlooked the Pacific, had airconditioning in the room and the bath was lovely with local river rock lining the shower. The open upstairs was super for reading and watching the waves and encompassed seating areas, beds, covered terraces and an open air shower and tub. They were wonderful, as they were positioned so they were perfectly private--a bath in the deep tub watching the ocean is a real treat! The downstairs living and dining area, furnished in a tropical style, also looked over the Pacific and the grounds and another covered terrace was perfect for lounging. There ar
The food is delicious; the staff really knows how to cook! If you do go fishing in the company's 30 ft. boat, the crew and staff will clean and prepare your catch for you--they make ceviche and sushi as well as other cooked versions. You can choose. If you don't fish, the staff can buy spiny lobsters and often red snapper from a local fishing village. The staff is super!
The ride to the house is on bumpy roads, but it is well worth it as you see young boys on horseback herding cattle, cows being milked on the side of the road for waiting housewives, oxcarts carrying fire wood, and a local bus that is all painted all over with bright patterns. You go through little villages set right on the road, so you get a look at the local people and the houses.
You have your own stairs that wind down to the beach, so you can float and swim and explore the tidal pools, look for shells and the gorgeous rocks that were formed during the volcanic era when
Nicaragua was formed. You can walk around the property to see other homes, wild orchids in the hills, and the ocean views from ahigh.
The staff can make arrangements for you to go sightseeing or to a beach restaurant about 30 min. away or to go horseback riding in the hills and on the beach. (Doing this ahead of your visit is the easiest.)
The ride out to the house is on a bumpy road, but it is worth it! You see kids on horseback herding cattle, cows being milked along the roadside, ox carts with fire wood and little villages. I can't wait to go back!
What a wonderful get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. This home and the wonderful and attentive staff made our vacation one very special occasion. We don't fish a lot, but our trips on the SANCHO with Captain "Vlads" were outstanding. He constantly had us in fish from the time we left the beach in front of the house until we returned....with memories and pictures of the dorado (mahi mahi), yellow fin tuna, white tuna, jacks and that extra special sail fish which we took pictures of and then released for someone else to catch and enjoy in the future. The cold beverages to wash down the on board lunch hit the spot as well.
We loved sleeping in the open atmosphere of the second floor, listening to the waves wash ashore on the beach below and seeing the moon cast its pale light on the canopy of trees around us. One morning we were able to witness where a sea turtle had come ashore and laid her eggs in the smooth sand on the beach below our house.
When not fishing, we took advantage of horse back riding through the hills surrounding the property stopping from time to time to take pictures of the bay and ocean where this property sits. Our guide brought the horses up to our doorstep the day we rode and was able to point out just where he thought we would get our best pictures.
Getting to this spot is half the fun. Dirt and gravel roads coupled with stream crossings are part of the adventure of leaving city life and enjoying being with nature in this remote paradise.
Six of us stayed here for a New Year's vacation and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The house was beautiful, spacious and clean, and I'd recommend it to friends looking for a relaxing but somewhat adventurous getaway.
The views from the house are beautiful, and the entire place invites relaxing. We spent hours lounging in and out of the sun and exploring the rocky but serene and lovely beach. We rented the fishing boat for one morning, which was great fun and entirely worth the cost, and we chose the option with housekeeping and cooking, so we felt pampered during our entire stay.
The house is a bit of a hike from San Juan del Sur, about a 45- or 60-minute drive over rocky, narrow roads. We wouldn't have made it without a four-wheel drive. That drive might be off-putting to some potential guests, but we didn't mind; it added to our sense of adventure, and we hadn't planned on spending every night in San Juan del Sur, anyway. There's a beautiful, sandy beach with an outdoor restaurant about 20 minutes from the property where we spent a memorable afternoon and evening. And there's a nature preserve nearby, where we released baby turtles into the ocean one night. It's also worth noting that there's a security checkpoint in between San Juan del Sur and the house, not a big deal but worth expecting, especially if you arrive in the evening. We were stopped each time we passed, but only for a couple of minutes after the first time.
If you want to be in the heart of San Juan del Sur or within walking distance to restaurants and bars, then this isn't the house for you. If you'd prefer a more secluded and private getaway, though, like we did, then this is a great option worth considering.
Surreal. There is no other word that adequately conveys the magic of this beautiful home on the southern Pacific coast of Nicaragua. As the sun set upon our arrival, we walked through the lush tropical rainforest toward the house and the sound of small crabs scurrying on the rocks filled the air. When we stepped through the huge sliding doors from the lanai into the large downstairs sitting room, complete with surf board quiver, we knew we had found a true paradise. The beautifully stained and sealed concrete floors keep things cool, and the understated yet luxurious style of the place is perfectly suited to its environment. The well-appointed kitchen has everything you need…but you won’t need anything because the staff is always eager to prepare whatever your heart (or stomach) desires. When it came time to choose rooms, we opted for one of the two enclosed bedrooms downstairs, but were very tempted by the breathtaking open-air upstairs suite. Both of these master suites enjoy amazing ocean views and the sound of the Pacific crashing on the shores below. The house is top-notch coastal luxury, but it is just the start of the adventure that awaits you throughout your stay at Costa Paraiso Resort. The amazing staff will do everything possible to insure that the memories you create while in southern Nicaragua last a lifetime. Be sure to charter SANCHO, the 30-foot inboard fishing boat, to take you out into Salinas Bay and the Pacific for some amazing sport fishing with expert guidance. We were absolute novices who came away with more than some fish and a tan; we learned a new sport from a great crew. When your day’s adventure is complete, this great house will await you and the Costa Paraiso staff will cook the fresh fish you just caught for a soothing dinner in the open-air eating area. Trust us, as the sun sets on Salinas Bay and the lush Costa Rican national parkland across the bay, you will begin planning for your return before you even leave.
We also have a 30 ft. sportfishing boat, SANCHO, available to rent for fishing and or surfing charters. It picks you up right in front on the beach.
