What makes this Apartment unique
The terrace on top floor has a wonderful view over the mountains and you also get a glimpse of the Mediterrenean.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Fantastic place! Closer than indicated to the beach and the town-centre. The flat was clean, comfortable and well furnished with an interesting and fun mix of brand-new and antique furniture.
We got all the help and information we asked for from the owners and the manageress.
The town is not too big and not too small, rather the perfect size. Easy to find all shops you need. 10-15 restaurants and cafees, from fairly simple to top class.
It is a really good feeling to put on your dressinggown in the morning, walk one block to the beach, take a swim and then a cup of coffee at one of the beach-cafés and just relax.. Can life be better?
Regarding possible activities: there are a sailing school and a diving-school in the village. Very good trecking and biking. You can rent horses in the vicinity. Golf 15 min. away. Tennis courts in the village.
One of the best places we have visited and therefore we would like to extend our warmest recommendations.
Nice little apartment in a nice little town.
This gracious little aparment is very conveniently located close to everything and is furnished with taste. However, to get access to the apartment is not immediate. The landlord is not living in the town and to get the apartment keys you have to drive to a local hotel fisrt and get them from the hotel owner. This is a rather simple process, however, in this town it proved to be kind of challenging as there are not so many parking possibilities neither close to the hotel nor close to the Aprtment and the streets are very narrow. But finally we managed to collect the keys, leave the luggage close to the apartment and park the car at the parking of the trainstation. I must say that after some hours of driving this was kind of stressful.
Probably it is an easier process in the low season.
Once in the apartment we were very pleased with the furnitures and the rooms. There was not toilet paper, which for me is not ok, as at least one roll should be available. So I had to get out again an look for a supermarket whilst my 5yo son was waiting in the bathroom. One last negative aspect is that the apartment is not much sound proof, so on our last day were woken up by some other guests in the house that were leaving their apartment at 5:00 in the morning.
To conclude: I would have appreciated a little more care to guarantee a smooth arrival (somebody at the apartment waiting with the keys and, why not, some toilet paper to address us to the closest parking) and some rules for the other guests advising them that the apartments are not soundproof.
Beside this the apartment can be reccomended. The landolord offered an excellent and prompt remote support with all the necessary information to spend a good time in this lovely town. The position of the apartment is excellent and close to everything. The apartment itself is also very nice and comfy and worth its price.
We welcome all our guests to leave their impressions of their stay at Rue Voltaire and thank them for that.
We just want to add some further explanations:
Delivery of keys: The hotel, where keys can be collected, ”Hotel du Manoir”, is situated 150 meters from the apartments. If need be, other key-delivery-arrangements can of course be organised, preferably by phone in advance of arrival.
Parking: There are mainly three parking areas, we can recommend during the high season: The dry riverbed, 200 meters from the apartments and the marketplace (not Thursdays and Sundays), 200 meters from the apartments and at the railwaystation, 300 meters from the apartments. Parking in the direct vicinity of the apartments, can be difficult to find during high season. In the futute we will be more specific as to information where to find parking.
Toilet paper: Our mistake. Of course there should be toilet paper in the apartments.
Noise: We do not find our apartments less sound-proof than other apartments. However, in the future we will inform our guests that we expect everyone to respect their fellow-guests preferrence of civilised sound-levels.
Banyuls sur Mer, only 10 minutes from the Spanish border, is one of France's most southern beach resorts on the Mediterranean Sea. Banyuls is a magnificent place all year round. During the summer it is more busy than other seasons as it attracts locals and tourists with its beautiful beaches and relaxing environment. In spring, autumn or winter you can stroll around the streets or hills in peace and quite enjoying the mild climate as the temperature rarely drops below 10 degrees celsius.
There are 4000 permanent inhabitants, of which most are living of the vines. The commune is most recognised for its “vin doux naturel Banyuls” and many prestigious wineries offer wine tastings directly on their vineyards. But Banyuls have much more to offer than wine! There are beaches for lazy summer days, a Marina natural reserve, hills and mountains with magnificent views and hiking paths that are surrounded by orange, fig, and olive trees as well as pine and oak trees. Banyuls also have local gastronomic products and rare cultural heritages.
There are activities for the entire family, in Banyuls and its neighbouring environment. There is sunbathing and swimming along the coast, sports and adventure in the mountains, and food and culture throughout the region.
Take the opportunity to dive in one of the purest and most beautiful waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Both beginners and experienced divers are welcome to Banyuls' scuba divers. If you are more interested in snorkelling, take the chance to do so in the Banyuls-Cerbere marine sanctuary.
We also recommend that you visit the Banyuls Aquarium which is part of the Banyuls' marine research laboratory. In the harbour you can rent all kind of water equipment such as a boat, water scooter, or catamaran, with or without a boating license. You can also rent windsurfing boards or canoes. If you want to go fishing but have no equipment, no problem, you can book a fishing trip for all friends and family.
If you prefer to stay on the shore but still enjoy the sea, there are plenty of small beaches to be discovered. Take the opportunity to ask the Tourist Information about where you can find exactly what you want!
Continue to discover the region in the mountains. There is the wonderful GR10 (Grande Randonnée 10), a hiking trail, suitable for beginners as well as advanced hikers, along the Pyrenean Mountains that begins on the Atlantic Coast and ends in Banyuls-sur-Mer. You can also hike on the cliffs along the coast or in the wine plantations in the hills.
For horse-lovers, there are horse-back tours across the hills overlooking Banyuls. And for the very adventurous people, there is rock-climbing, white-rafting, canoeing and bungyjumping in Céret, only one hour away by car. In the neighbouring village, Argelès sur Mer, you can rent a bicycle or book a bicycle tour in the mountains.
However, if you prefer a slightly more relaxing sport such as golf, we would recommend three gold courses: Falgos – a golf course one hour away up in the mountains, Saint-Cyprien – half an hour to the north, and Peralada half an hour to the south into Spain.
If you do not want to go too far but still excersice there is also a tennis court close by.
After all the activities, or maybe instead of, there is a very nice spa, Spa Thalacap, located on the heights of Banyuls overlooking the marina.
WINE AND FOOD
Banyuls is situated in the heart of the wine district Banyuls-Collioure and vineyards succeed each other along the way while the vines are piling up on the slopes. The appellations Banyuls and Banyuls Grand Cru gives you sweet desert wines “Vins Doux Naturels” while the Collioure appellations produce the dry wines of the area. These appellations are only produced in four communes: Collioure, Vendres, Banyuls and Cerbère. The Banyuls appellation, originating from 1936, is one of the eldest in France.
Most of the wine-producers offer wine-tasting on their farms or in “les Caves” - the wine shops in the village nearby. Solely in Banyuls-sur-Mer there are more than twenty wine shops and in the next few miles there are hundreds of vineyards. Make it your next stop!
The region is renowned for its Catalan cuisine - “mar I muntanya” - with fish, shellfish, rich stews, aïoli, anchoïade and crème catalane. There are around twenty restaurants in Banyuls that are open all year-round. If you feel like fresh and exclusive shellfish, we would recommend that you go to the fish market in the neighbouring village Port Vendres. There you can buy a plate of fruit-de-mer or oysters to either enjoy onsite with a glass of champagne or bring back to the apartment for a luxurious meal.
