About this property

CHARMING HOUSE IN THE COUNTRY

Charming gite for 2/7 people, renovated in 2011, in Birkenwald, a typical little village in northern Alsace (on the border with the northern Vosges mountains, 35km from Strasbourg), famous for its castle, its deer park and its two restaurants popular with connoisseurs.

ENVIRONMENT:
The gîte is set in 60 acres of private grounds (forest and signposted footpaths just 200m away).

THE HOUSE:
The gîte is in a wing of an old Alsatian house restored in early 2011. We were keen to retain all the charm of the exposed beams and whitewashed cob walls, while adding the modern touch that is essential for the well-being of our guests.

All shops 5 km from the village of Marmoutier and 11 km from Saverne.

Surface area: 100m2 on 2 floors.
Ground floor (75m2):
º 1 bedroom with 2 single beds (90 x 200)
º 1 lounge/dining area of 30m2 with sofa bed (130*190) and

º 1 fully-equipped kitchen (microwave, 4 hotplates, fridge

º 1 bathroom with Italian-style shower (renovated in January 2022), shower and washing machine.

Good Recommendation

Beautiful old house - almost on the edge of the forest - with good facilities and a very nice landlord. Top: Very good baguette and cake service from the landlord.

Lovely Alsace gite

The gite was tastefully decorated and had all the equipment you need. We visited in a heat wave and the gite was nice and cool and a has a huge bathroom / walk in shower. Lovely terrace outside which gives privacy from neighbours. Matthieu lives opposite and was on hand for anything we needed but not at all intrusive. Also lots of lovely forests nearby to walk or cycle in and it's near enough to the German border to easily have a day in Germany.

Peaceful Stay

We spent a week in this lovely cottage with lot of character. It is situated in a peaceful village. The cottage is equipped with all necessities and we looked forward to return to it after a day hopping from one amazing village to another. A very good variety of wines and juices are available at very ready prices. The owner of the cottage, Matthieu, is very friendly and helpful. He provided us with information of places to visit. One can even order freshly baked bread from Matthieu. We definitely recommend this cottage.

A very special place....

As my spoken as well as written french is less than basic, I rather leave an english review. We arrived here in Birkenwald to find ourselves within a peaceful tranquility which is hard to find somethere in central europe. Mathieus hospitality and assistance was outstanding in any way. We soon realized, that we´ve got to come back there. The house was clean and tidy, equipped with everything needed and above all, of a very special charme. Merci beaucoup and au revoir ....

Das Haus hat ein schönes, großes Bad und eine ruhige und gemütliche Terrasse.Die Photos im Inserat (insbesondere vom Wohnzimmer) sind so belichtet, dass der Eindruck entsteht, dass es sich um einen hellen Raum handelt - in der Realität ist das Wohzimmer eher dunkel und wird fanden es eher ungemütlich.Die Lage des Hauses ist sehr schön und es ist vollkommen ruhig. Der Umgang mit dem Vermieter war sehr nett und unproblematisch.

Leuke, nette accomodatie

We hebben een fijne week doorgebracht in deze accomodatie. Lekker ontbeten in de schaduw van de pergola op het prive terras. In de avond genoten van lounche plek onder het afdak aan de voorkant.De inrichting, modern romantisch, gezellig zoals we dat in Nederland noemen.De voorzieningen goed verzorgd, lekkere bedden.De douche en badruimte meer dan prima!

Birkenwald im Elsass war ein wunderbarer Ort für unseren Aufenthalt – ruhig gelegen und dennoch sehr zentral, perfekt am Rande der Vogesen. Das Haus war gemütlich, sauber und gut ausgestattet, ideal zum Entspannen nach einem Tag voller Erkundungen. Die Lage ist ein hervorragender Ausgangspunkt, um den Norden des Elsass mit seinen charmanten Dörfern, Burgen und der schönen Natur zu entdecken. Matthieu war ein sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Gastgeber – wir haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt. Eine klare Empfehlung!

Einfach mal raus in die Ruhe

Charmantes altes Häuschen, in dem es uns an nichts gefehlt hat. Nettes ruhiges Dorf - alles was man braucht mit dem Auto in bequem erreichbarer Nähe in den umliegenden Ortschaften. Der Vermieter ist da wenn man ihn braucht - hilft und gibt Tipps wenn man will. Und wenn nicht - drängt er sich nicht auf. Für uns eine super Kombination.

Maison en Alsace

Popriétaire très accueillant et sympathique. La maison, ancienne, a beaucoup de charme, très bien ordonnancée, 3 chambres, bien séparées. Très bien située, entre Stasbourg et les Vosges. Maison de village sans jardin, mais avec une petite arrière cour agréable pour déjeuner dehors.

schöne kurze Auszeit

Wir waren 3 Tage in dem Haus von Mathieu, uns allen hat sehr gefallen. Das Haus entspricht genau den Bildern wie im Inserat. Mathieu ist ein zuvorkommender Gastgeber. Ausflugsziele Saverne und Obernai nicht weit entfernt. Mathieu war auch hier sehr behilflich uns eine Tagestour zusammenzustellen. Fazit: Wir hatten eine schöne Zeit im Haus der Amelie und seiner Umgebung.

Sehr schön!

Liebevoll renoviertes, altes Häuschen. Die Unterkunft ist sehr gut ausgestattet. Handtücher, Bettwäsche, Wifi, Spiele, TV, … Die Küche hat ebenfalls alles, was man braucht: Kaffeemaschine von Nespresso, Spülmaschine, Kühlschrank, Küchenutensilien, … alles Notwendige ist vorhanden. Sehr netter Kontakt zum hilfsbereiten und unkomplizierten Vermieter, vielen Dank!

Schöner Kurzurlaub

Gemütliches Bauernhaus

Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet und Matthieu hat sich toll um uns gekümmert. Es gibt die Möglichkeit über Matthieu frisches Baguette und Croissants zu bestellen die dann in einer Kiste abgeholt werden können. So kann ein Tag dann wunderbar starten.
