Restored Tuscan farmhouse priv pool, terraces/gardens, beautiful panoramic views
Casa a Corte is a beautifully restored Tuscan farmhouse of Roman origin set in the rolling hills surrounding Lucca but perfectly located for exploring, whether cities, beaches, transport links and mountains. We absolutely love the stunning, private 12x5m swimming pool which benefits from sunshine morning to dusk! Glorious 360 degree panoramic views provide a magnificent backdrop whilst relaxing on the pool's sun loungers. The pool has steps, lighting and a solar- powered shower. The mountains of the Alpi Apuane can be seen from the house and pool - nature (& history) at its best! Casa a Corte is a peaceful retreat but only 20 minutes drive from the lively city of Lucca & 10 mins from some great restaurants, both Michelin *, world famous trattoria and great locals. One could easily spend all day soaking up the sun by the pool, listening to birdsong and cicadas singing in the olive trees! Families absolutely love the total privacy with all the best that nature can offer, whether reading, children letting off steam and exploring. As a family with children and grand-children, we all really look forward to al freso dining - evening aperitivi and dinners on the south terrace are very special for us. One can spend many a happy hour enjoying the views and listening to the church bells from neighbouring villages - truly, la dolce vita! The Casa a Corte estate extends to 30 acres of olive groves, vineyards, fruit trees, wild flowers, chestnut woodlands, mountain streams, so leisurely evening walks are a must! Sometimes we might even hear nightingales singing and see fire-flies flitting across the valley! The charming city of Lucca (nicknamed the city of a hundred churches) offers wonderful places of historical interest to explore with tree-lined pathways along the tops of the 16th-17th walls which are popular for strolling and cycling. What an experience to join Italians for the passegiata at sunset before dining out in one of Lucca's fine restaurants! The house itself is a typical Tuscan farmhouse, charming and traditional, retaining all the original chestnut beams, fireplace and terracotta floors. The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for trying out your favourite Italian recipes or perhaps enjoying an evening with our local private chef Fabrizio!. He will come and cook a seasonal, Lucchese meal in our kitchen (to suit everyone's dietary requirements). We have wonderful feedback from guests not only about his cooking but about Fabrizio himself - a really charming character. He and his waiter Luigi speak excellent English! As a family home, Casa a Corte has a library of books and games + Starlink internet. Angela, our house keeper prepares the house for guests - all bed-linen and bathroom towels are provided. The east terrace is accessed from both the kitchen and dining room and has a large slate dining table and eight chairs. A bamboo pergola and climbing jasmine, wisteria and passion fruit provides dappled shade. There are views through the olive trees to the pool. Lighting above the large stone table allows for evening 'al fresco' dining. Alongside is a large free-standing bbq. The large terracotta tiled south terrace is a sun worshipper's dream with a 3 seater sofa, 2 arm chairs and dining table. Watch the sun setting from the west terrace and enjoy relaxing in a well established garden of roses, mixed shrubs and fruit trees. A table and benches are provided. All terraces have fabulous views across the olives, vineyards and valley with automatic dusk to dawn lighting around the house. The swimming pool lights stay on until 23 hrs. The area is organic - a wildlife enthusiast's dream with many rare species of animals and birds. In the spring and summer the countryside is full of wild flowers. As Italy becomes more developed and young people leave the villages for city life, the importance of our valley with its traditional farming methods is becoming more significant. Casa a Corte has appeared in the TV programme 'A House in Tuscany' and in several magazines.
10 minutes from the house is our favourite restaurant - Antica Locanda di Sesto. serving seasonal, local, Lucchese food. Aurelio, eldest son of the Barattini family is head chef - his reputation as a brilliant chef has taken him to the US, Europe, Asia, Monaco F1 - we highly recommend this special restaurant! You will be given the warmest welcome. The local town of Ponte A Moriano (10 mins drive away) provides all the usual amenities - post office, bank, pharmacy, cafes, restaurants, butchers and a fabulous delicatessen for take-away meals. Do try Sauro's gelateria/bar offering some of the best home-made ice cream in the area! Every Tuesday morning there is a market in the main piazza selling local produce such as honey, cheeses, olive oil, fresh fish, fruit and vegetables etc. The local supermarket, Esselunga has everything! For local wines visit Lucca Vini on the Serchio bridge .
What we love and recommend to our guests! Tuscany & Lucca boasts many festivals & cultural events throughout the year. Some of the most popular are listed below: During July, Lucca has a wonderful music festival attracting the best musicians from around the world. The Rolling Stones, Elton John have both played recently. There is also the wonderful Puccini opera in Torre del Lago, plus wonderful choirs singing in the cathedrals. Every third weekend of the month is an antique, bric a brac market within the walls of Lucca. The house is perfectly located for visiting Florence (1 hour by train from Lucca station), Pisa and Siena. Don't forget the small but beautiful arty town of Pietrasanta which is packed full of art galleries & cafes, with more working sculptors than anywhere else; it is in the shadow of Carerra famous for it's marble and where Michelangelo carved Davide. The seaside resorts of Viareggio - 35 mins, Forti di Marmi & Lericci are nearby and the mountain regions of Garfagnana & ski resort of Abetone. Nearer to home are some stunning villas ( Villa Bernardi, Grabau, Olivia, Reale, Torrigiani, Mansi, Collodi) & gardens to visit and also vineyards - Tenuta di Valgiano & Buonamico https://www.valgiano.it/en/diary/ https://www.buonamicowineresort.it/en/ The Cinque Terra is a beautiful world heritage sight - this can be walked, visited by boat or train. Cycling in the mountains and woods is fantastic in our area. The best road & mountain bikes are all available to hire and delivered to A Corte. Alternatively you can organise a cycling day(s) with a pro. https://chronobikes.com/ https://www.ciclismoplus.com/ The Giro d'Italia route passes by Lucca province on the way north to Genoa. https://www.giroditalia.it/en/the-route/ 19.20 June 2026. The Palio of Siena, is a medieval horse race competition between the 17 Contrade of Siena which takes place around the ancient cobbled stoned piazza, usually held on 2 July & 16 August. It is a truly memorable event, originating 1000 years ago. In early November Lucca hosts the 2nd biggest Comic Fair in the world. All rates quoted are in UK Stirling.

We spent a wonderful week in Casa a Corte. Hugh was a wonderful host from the start, with great restaurant and activity recommendations before we arrived. He also proved to the knight in shining armour, guiding us to the property when we got completely lost in the Tuscan hills in the dark after our flight was delayed. The gardens and pool are stunning and even better than the pictures. The kitchen is really well equipped and the beds rooms were spacious.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and we’d love to return

What will we remember from our Tuscan farmhouse experience with Hugh? Birdsong while lounging at the pool or dining al fresco. The night of the fireflies. A taste of Tuscany, including focaccia courtesy of a nonna's decades-old sourdough starter courtesy of Fabrizio, a teacher-turned-chef who brought a culinary feast to the villa. It's a winding drive to get to the villa - rent a vehicle with a bit of ground clearance to make it easier to use the shortcut back to town – but the reward is a memorable stay at a remote villa. This is not a modern hotel stay – it is a restored farmhouse with a few idiosyncracies – but for me, the charm easily outweighed any cons.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this Tuscan retreat. The host was incredibly accommodating and made the entire experience seamless from start to finish. We took advantage of many of his recommendations for local dining, including a private chef he suggested which was an unforgettable highlight of our trip. Each morning and evening, we were surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature. Woke up to owls at night and spotting beautiful birds and even deer in the nearby field. It truly felt like a serene escape. The home itself was very comfortable and perfectly suited for our group of eight, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy time together. The kitchen was also extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need, which made cooking and dining in just as enjoyable. It was also a perfect home base for day trips, allowing us to easily explore a variety of beautiful cities throughout Tuscany.Overall, it was a relaxing and memorable experience, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful Tuscan getaway

This property is a perfect place to soak in the Tuscan countryside. It is rustic yet elegant. The outdoor space is amazing. There are 3 different terraces all with a different feel and there is also the pool. The location is remote, but not too far from town. We found it a perfect base camp for day trips all over Tuscany. Our host Hugh was most helpful; his recommendations spot on.

Great family stay
The whole family loved our stay at Casa a Corte, taking advantage of many great recommendations from our host Hugh. Highly recommend cooking class for kids / chef prepared meal at house. Enjoyed hiking around the various small roads nearby to find local hamlets and villages. Pay careful attention to driving directions from host

A truly magical place.
Hugh was such a gracious host and the house was every bit the Tuscan fantasy I thought it would be. You do need to navigate some twisty roads and gravelly drives to get there but once you’ve arrived, it will be hard to leave. A special thank you to Peirluigi and Angela for taking such good care of the house and grounds for us while we were there.

Birdsong, church bells—and a pool!
Idyllic beauty, peaceful surroundings, and great communication with the owner made for an unforgettable week. The pool and the well-stocked bookshelves, the array of outdoor seating, the very comfortable and authentic indoor accommodations made for a picture-perfect experience. Hugh’s suggestions for shops in the village of Ponte a Mariano on the valley floor were spot-on. A wonderful place to relax for a week and/or use as a base for many explorations.

Casa A Corte
What a beautiful spot, with eight of us there was lots of room for us both inside and out. Had everything one needs to cook their own meal, including a bar-b-que. Pool was a god send on the hot days. Laundry also helped. Fans in each room were great. I would recommend staying at Casa A Corte to anyone for sure.

Spectacular Farmhouse set in the heart of Tuscany
Pure bliss! An Oasis of calm situated in the Tuscan hills. Our family had a fantastic stay here in this wonderful farmhouse which felt like a home away from home. Days were spent walking the spectacular Tuscan countryside, relaxing by the pool taking in the breath-taking scenery, trips to Lucca exploring the wonderful walled city (with the children loving the cycle around the walls). Its hard to drag yourself away from such a beautiful house, but we loved our trips to the beach in Viareggio and a day trip to Florence. Next time we will definitely try and take in the Leaning tower of Pisa and a trip to one of the many local vineyards. We couldn’t have had a better stay, thanks v much and we look forward to returning next year!

The most wonderful week!
For an energetic family of five, CasaCorte was fabulous. Located in the hills with breathtaking views, the house is ideally located for dinner in Lucca and daily excursions into the hills or to the beach. The owner, Hugh was extremely prompt at responding to all queries and is a fountain of knowledge and is only too keen to share it! He has brilliant recommendations and his network of the area is vast eg restaurants and activities. Equally, if you wanted to be by the pool all day, I can’t think of a lovelier spot! The house is well kitted with a great little kitchen (we ate lunch at the house most days). The bedrooms are a good size and very comfortable and the house is extremely clean. We highly recommend this wonderful gem in the Tuscan hills!

Peaceful and Relaxing Country Home
Property was in good condition and everything worked well during our stay. Hugh the owner communicated a lot of information on the house and the local area around Lucca. He was very helpful.
Had a little trouble finding the house using GPS. When we followed the owners directions we arrived. The roads to the house are narrow and require careful driving. Once there all was good. Enjoyed our stay and recommend this property to those who like being in the county in a nice home with a poll and great views, and only 15 to 20 minutes to great restaurants and a large Supermarket.

Wonderful property
Spent a week here with 6 friends in September 2013. The property is absolutely stunning and the pictures on this site accurately represent it. Hugh, the owner, was incredibly helpful - he responded promptly to all our emails, provided detailed directions in advance, gave great tips on local restaurants, markets, and sites to see, and checked in during our stay to ensure we had everything we needed. The location is beautiful - rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves for miles. The views are breathtaking. The location is great as it is very remote yet by car you are only an hour away (or less) from some great towns and sites. The kitchen is well equipped (we cooked most nights), beds were comfortable, and the entire property was very clean and in good repair. I would reccomend this property without hesitation. Thank you, Hugh, for making our stay so memorable.

Tuscan trip
Casa a Corte is a wonderful property a true Tuscan gem.
House is cerfuly design with a simple but elegant touch.
You will find everything you need from well equipped kitchen to washer in the downstairs buthroom.
Our host, Hugh, shared with us a tons of information about the area restaurants, shoping and activities. You can have a great dinner at the local restaurant or have a private chef Fabrizio cook a traditional Tuscan dinner right in your kitchen.
Make sure to visit local market, bakery or butcher where you can really feel small town hospitality, local people are always nice and helpful.
I highy recommend Casa a Corte to anyone.
Thank you Hugh for shering your wonderful home.

Casa a corte is a very charming house, sitting on top of a hill inmidst of an olive grove with phantastic views into the Tuscan landscape. Three terraces around the house (unfortunately only one with sun protection), a kitchen fully equipped, a really big pool very well taken care of by the pool man and Lucca only some kilometers away. The house, although renovated to modern standards some years ago and nicely furnished, is quite rustic with typical small windows (thankfully all moth-protected) and wooden beams. The master bedroom and sitting room on the first floor are spacious, the three bedrooms on the upper level are quite small with crooked floors like you can expect in an old house like that. Very good water pressure in the bathroom next to the kitchen (how do they manage that up there in the hills), all rooms have big fans, but the extreme heat of 38 Celsius became quite unbearable under the stone roof. Very nice owner offering advice and tips, being very patient with all those bigger and minor questions throughout our stay. Thumbs up and a big thank you for that vacation!

Amazing, relaxing stay in this idyllic farmhouse
1) The House - exactly as advertised - inside, a simply Tuscan house but nicely furnished. The kitchen has everything you would need. The host does a great job at ensuring you have the basics also - along with a few bottles of Prosecco on arrival!
Outside - this is where you will spend all your time - we literally slept Inside and that’s it … the outside areas are perfect - numerous areas to sit depending on the time of day, and the pool was fantastic.
2) the area - Hugh does a great job at explaining the local surroundings - and the local town has everything you would need. It’s a 10 minute drive down some windy roads, but nothing difficult. Lucca is also beautiful and well worth a visit.
3) the Host - Hugh is the most communicative and attentive host I have ever worked with - he literally acts like your own personal tour guide, but without being overbearing … a truly special service, which helps you make the most out of the area. Take his restaurant recommendations too - the Antica is AMAZING!
We couldn’t have wished for a better 5 day break with friends, and can’t wait to go back.

Dream stay
My family (mother in 70s, sister/spouse, husband plus 3 kids ages 4-10) stayed at Hugh's house for a little over 2 weeks. The weather did not cooperate as it was mostly cool and grey/rainy, but we savored every moment of the property and its location near Lucca and many major sights. Getting to and from the house is a little daunting at first as locals whiz along the 1-lane roads and the path becomes gravel towards the end, but after a couple days we got the hang of it. The house itself is very welcoming and so relaxing - views to the mountains dotted with villas, farmland and vineyards sprawling below, windows and Dutch doors that let in the breeze. Three patios let you soak it in from all directions. Despite the weather we were able to eat outside a fair bit and had Hugh's recommended private chef, Fabrizio, spoil us a couple nights during our stay. (Highly recommend!!) Kitchen was very well stocked; didn't want for anything when cooking. Fell in love with Lucca - a laid back old world city in the best sense. Beautiful wandering the streets and popping into restaurants and squares. Riding on the walls a must especially for the kids. We got to feel like it was home pretty quickly. The "unsung hero" of the trip was Hugh himself, though, who allowed us to begin settling in immediately without having to figure out too much on our own. The best (local) restaurants, shops, markets - everything you could wish for out of a tour guide. Super responsive and personable. I could go on.

10 beautiful days on the property
This is a magnificent property whose outdoor areas and panoramic views are unparalleled. We loved our stay and would absolutely return.
The inside of the house has its charms and its peculiarities. We enjoyed the beautiful artwork, comfortable furniture, huge and heavenly bed, and fantastic wall of books. The kitchen was well stocked and organized for people like us who enjoy cooking. The glassware was thoughtful and plentiful.
The Nespresso machine was broken. That said, there were two different sizes of manual espresso makers, so we pivoted. Also, would be nice to have some streaming services like Netflix.
While there are two bathrooms, one on the first and third floor, there is no bathroom on the second floor with the master bedroom, which can be problematic for some. So, we either walked up or down some pretty harrowing stairs to reach a bathroom.
We spent most of our time outdoors, which was heavenly. So many beautiful outdoor areas to enjoy. The pool is gorgeous and well maintained. Unheated, but once in, just lovely. We ate outdoors every day on the covered patio and sat on the side patio for aperitivi. So perfect!
The location is ideal. We spent days in Lucca, Pistoia, and Garfagnana - all wonderful! And the local restaurants are heaven sent - every restaurant we visited was fantastic.
All in all, a perfectly wonderful stay in a gorgeous home in a stunning part of Italy. We will be back!

How can I begin to describe the most magical place, Casa a Corte? First, after a very short stay, 6 nights, we all realized it wasn’t enough time and we didn’t want to leave. There is so much to see and the property is a perfect location for many day trips: Lucca, San Gimignano, Pisa, Cinque Terre to only list a few. You enter the property surrounded by green rolling hills, orchards, olive groves and of course vineyards. We can’t forget the pool which we spent our evenings enjoying. We spent our time outside on the many patios with comfortable seating or just lounging next to the pool. The evenings were filled with a glass of wine out on the patio with family. It was perfect. Hugh, our host was fabulous. Providing every detail we needed for the property which included the history, hikes, short walks, and the fabulous chef, Fabrizio! Fabrizio is a must, he is a wonderful chef and became a friend to our family. Back to Hugh, anything you needed he was only an email away and he replied straight away. He kept us in the loop on local farmers markets, wine shopping, restaurants to visit,,,etc. Everything was perfect and wonderful. Thank you Hugh!
PS, My recommendation, follow Hugh's direction to the villa. Once you get to the last picture he provides, keep heading on that road (it looks like a path, but it is a road), keep going you will see the house on the right! Place a pin on your location in case you need to share it will any drivers.

Fantastiskt hus i natursköna Toscana
