Wild trout retreat on the Ozarks’ wild North Fork River
Trout Lodge Guest House We have recently opened our new guest house located on our riverfront property on the North Fork of the White River in southern MO. The North Fork, as it is locally known, is the premier freestone wild rainbow trout fishery between the Appalachians and the Rockies, rivaling many anywhere else in the country. The rainbows are a well-adapted strain descended from the McCloud River rainbow strain originally stocked in the clear cold fast spring fed waters of the river in the late 1800s. Rainbows were last stocked in 1964, and have maintained a thriving, self-sustaining population since then. Rainbows from young of the year to 20” or larger are commonly caught. The MO Dept of Conservation also stocks brown trout that while spawning too early to maintain a significant stream-bred population, grow to trophy proportions in the favorable environment of the river. Browns from 17-23” are common, and individuals up to 35” or larger are caught by experienced anglers. Both fly and spin fishing are successful techniques for both rainbows and browns. A list of local guides for the river can be provided.
But trout fishing is not the only activity visitors enjoy on the North Fork. In the spring walleye, stripers, hybrids and white bass from Lake Norfork downstream make their annual spawning run up the North Fork providing great sport fishing. The spring striper run is one of the finest river striper fly fishing opportunities in the country. The upper stretches of the river provide an outstanding fishery for native smallmouth bass. In the spring, summer and fall, the North Fork’s numerous sporty fast shoals provide outstanding canoeing, kayaking and rafting opportunities.
We provide direct river access at our landing behind the main house for wading, canoes, kayaks, inflatables, etc. We cannot handle trailered boats, but will direct you to those locations that can. Access is limited on the river as many areas are private and canoe and kayak outfitters are limiting use of their landings. We will provide contact information for the liveries operating on the river.
The guest house is well-equipped for a few days or a week or two, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, comfortable plush furniture, full kitchen, washer and dryer, covered porch with outdoor table and chairs, Weber grill, rod or gun rack (deer and turkey hunters also welcome), wader hangers, and wader donning and doffing bench. Big screen TV, DVD/Blueray with WiFi connectivity for hot spot or Fire TV Stick, Sirius XM radio and bedside tables with device charging ports are provided.

The property was amazing, and the hosts were very engaged and communicative. The river access was great - with a short 100 foot walk from parking at the main house. 10/10
We went for a short weekend on the River. The place we stayed was very nice and easy access to the river. The owners were very hospitable and answered all our questions.
⸻5 Stars – Excellent Stay!We had a great time at this property! The home was clean, well-maintained, and the sleeping arrangements were incredibly comfortable—everyone slept great. The easy river access was a huge bonus and made our stay even more enjoyable. Whether we were relaxing or heading out for a float, it couldn’t have been more convenient. The hosts were very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions, which made the entire experience smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend this VRBO for a comfortable and fun getaway!
Everything exceeded our expectations. Randy and Pat are the nicest people. The home was beautiful and cozy. I can not say enough about our stay. Absolutely recommend.
Family booked this cabin for a long weekend. The accommodations were very nice. The porch was lovely for having morning coffee and spending the day when not on the water with the family. Randy and his wife are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and made our stay very enjoyable as we felt welcomed on their property. Defiantly will be making the trip back in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our adult children and their significant others. Randy and Pat thought of everything when furnishing the place! It felt like home from the moment we walked through the door. Great information about the local area was provided prior to arriving which made trip planning very easy.
This house was great. Randy and Pat were very accommodating, anything we needed was just a call a way. The house was nice and clean. It had games that our kids enjoyed playing. The river was a short walk. We will definitely return to this property.

This is a great place to relax and enjoy life.Secluded, and quiet, except for the sounds of nature. The house is very roomy, great kitchen, and a great place to relax in the living room. We had 3 couples there, and everyone was very happy with the place.Although I am not a fisherman, there seemed like a lot of fish being caught out of the river. We floated the river, and used Sunburst Ranch Outfitter for the float, very nice people, and they also took very good care of our group.
The house was absolutely perfect. The cleanest VRBO I have stayed in. large, spacious, and new. The hosts are awesome people and very easy to work with. This is about a mile from Dawt Mill and 30 minutes from Rockbridge. So it was a great location for us. I highly recommend.

Thank you, Traci. We were glad to be able to host you and your family. And to renew old and forgotten acquaintances. I saw the haul of big rainbows you caught at Rockbridge. Come back anytime.

My family and friends stayed at the house for 3 nights during the 4th of July holiday. Randy came down to greet us after we arrived; he was very kind and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to accommodate us and ensure that we had everything we needed plus extras! The house was clean and well stocked with everything that we needed. The master shower is awesome! Having the washer and dryer was very convenient after playing in the river because we didn't have to pack wet (or dirty) swimsuits. We will definitely stay again! Thanks Randy!!
We had a very nice stay at this property. Randy & Pat were some of the most accommodating and helpful hosts that we’ve ever had! Their property is gorgeous and we appreciate them welcoming us. The cabin was clean and fully stocked with necessities and more! We enjoyed the complimentary wine on the patio and used the grill & fire pit. The only thing we would have preferred is that the grass around the cabin had been mowed. It was tall and overgrown around the fire pit area, which didn’t prevent us from using but would have been nice to have cut. The water was running fast and high during our stay so fishing wasn’t very good in the area. This was unfortunate but uncontrollable due to recent rainfall. On our last day we drove up to Rockbridge Trout Resort and we’re able to catch Rainbows all day from the spring. Overall, we would highly recommend Pat & Randy’s cabin for anyone looking to get away and get lost in the peace & quite of the Ozark Mountains. Thanks again for an amazing stay!!

Thank you for the nice comments, Brooke. We have also been frustrated with our mower not getting to us timely, but with all the rain we’ve had he really got backed up. But all good now and hopefully the rains will let up so he can keep our place mowed more timely, and the river level finally gets down to good fishing levels again.
A nice cabin with great access to the river. The only issue was that the air conditioning wasn't working well but the owner did bring in a portable air conditioner that helped.

Rachel, we are so apologetic for the AC going out during your stay. As I mentioned, we had the service man out to fix the problem that had appeared a couple of weeks earlier and he indicated he found the refrigerant leak and fixed it. He came back after your stay and found a second pinhole leak with dye and will be replacing the entire refrigerant unit early this week as soon as the part comes in. Please contact me through regular email and I will arrange a future stay at the guest house at no charge except for the cleaning fee. Again, our apologies for your inconvenience. Randy
We really appreciated Randy And Pat and their attention to detail. They were warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth. I would love to stay here again. I’d love to bring my dog, but I don’t know if that’s an option. Thanks for the great weekend.

The guest lodge was everything advertised and more. A beautiful setting on the North Fork of the White River. Randy and Pat are terrific hosts. The lodge was spacious, clean, well appointed and was everything that we could want for our stay. We will definitely return!
