'Middle Earth - Te Whare Rangi' - Private Room in Nelson Waterfront
Te Whare Rangi, a historic Victorian home dating back to 1858, offers a unique retreat with rich heritage. Once home to renowned Nelson photographer William Tyree and former Mayor Edward Everett, it provides stunning views of Haulashore Island, the Boulder Bank, Tasman Bay, Abel Tasman National Park, and the Tasman and Arthur mountain ranges.
Middle Earth is one of the private rooms in Te Whare Rangi, offering a cozy retreat with a sink in the room and a shared bathroom just off the kitchen. Your private, lockable room comes equipped with a flat-screen Smart TV featuring Netflix and YouTube, as well as an Amazon Echo for music and smart home features. You’ll also have access to the first-floor kitchen, lounge, and balcony, where you can enjoy playing the digital baby grand piano. Outdoor spaces include a small deck and a brick patio.
You may also be interested in the adjacent Puna Perch, a separate room located up a short flight of stairs from the main house, Abel Abode, which features a private bathroom on the ground floor or the Tasman Suite, also on the ground floor, with a private bathroom and kitchenette.

Middle Earth is located on the first floor, situated between the kitchen and lounge. It features a sink in the room and a shared bathroom off the kitchen. Please note that you might hear some noise from the kitchen or adjacent areas.
- Young children - This property is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Please enquire before booking.
- Noise in the area - The waterfront road is busy & all properties within this area are subject to some road noise. However, the evenings are typically quiet with much less traffic.
- Car parking - Parking is on-street, nearby and free. We provide recommendations for parking in our arrival details. It is possible to use the driveway during arrival/departure to unload/load bags, but the driveway is steep and does not offer great visibility when exiting so a spotter and extra care is recommended when doing this.
- Check-in is available between 2pm and 8pm. Later check-in may be possible if needed however an after hours charge will apply.
**Payment, Bond/Security Deposit and Cancellation**:
- A 30% deposit secures your stay with the balance due 3 weeks prior to your arrival (full payment will be required if booking within 3 weeks of arrival).
- Three weeks prior to your arrival (or immediately if booking within 3 weeks of arrival), you’ll need to provide a card authority for the bond/security deposit via our secure online check in process.
- Cancel anytime up until 3 weeks prior to arrival for any reason and you’ll pay no more than 30% of the booking total.
- Where compassionate circumstances for cancellation exist, we’ll be happy to look at further flexibility, usually in the form of postponement of your stay, or a credit towards future stay dates.
- A Rental Agreement document is provided as part of the booking process. Please refer to the agreement for full terms and conditions. :-)

Tranquillity out on the balcony
It's not a good story. My sister became very unwell and I rushed to be with her, booking the accommodation in haste. My sister passed away 12hrs after I arrived. I loved everything about the accommodation but have sad memories.

La casa coloniale è bellissima e ha una vista mozzafiato sul mare: noi siamo stati fortunati perché eravamo gli unici in tutta la casa essendo formata da 4 stanze di cui 2 con un bagno in comune (quest’ultimo penalizza la struttura moltissimo in quanto necessita di una ristrutturazione soprattutto per creare una doccia vera visto che ad oggi c’è un soffione senza un piatto doccia che allaga l’intero bagno). Cucina piacevole e funzionale e soggiorno molto signorile. Probabilmente se fosse stata totalmente occupata l’esperienza non sarebbe stata così positiva, ma nella nostra circostanza siamo molto soddisfatti

Located in Britannia Heights which is 2.2 km (1.4 mi) away from the Nelson town center. Beautiful Tahunanui beach is only 1.8 km (1.1 mi) away and a lovely walk along the waterfront. Abel Tasman National Park is very accessible, allowing you to do a day hike and return the same day. The entry point is Kaiteriteri, about 60 km or a 1 hour drive away.
The renowned waterfront dining strip is than a 10 minute walk away and features Harbour Light Bistro, The Styx Kitchen Bar, Nahm Thai, The Boathouse Society (a local secret) and the renowned Boat Shed Café. You’ll also find Haven Fish & Chips and, for an awesome range of fresh raw seafood, Guytons.
