Why they chose this property
Lauderdale is a charming coastal town about 20 minutes from Hobart CBD, just far enough to feel remote but close enough to sightsee every day. It’s a sought-after suburb with plenty of trendy cafes, local grocers, charming walks, and a pristine beach. You could easily walk to the canal, where most of the services are – it would take about 15 minutes.
Hill Street Grocer is the best shop to source Tasmanian made goodies and fresh produce, as well as pantry staples. The Gourmet Grocer has an incredible butcher full of locally sourced produce. If you’re looking to do a big grocery shop, you can drive 10 minutes to Glebe Hill Shopping Mall, which is home to a Coles, pharmacy, post office, and multiple eateries.
Angie Sue is the hottest café in Lauderdale, with a large outdoor space and a delectable menu. They also do wood fired pizzas on Saturday nights, fully licensed. Another great new venue is Bang Eats on Bangalee Street – burgers and street food are their expertise. Ventura is also a trendy café for a coffee stop or brunch, and Windy’s bakehouse will fulfil all your bakery needs. At Driftwood restaurant you can find local, seasonal produce with a great wine list, overlooking the charming canal.
Roches beach is favoured by dog walkers, runners, paddle boarders, wind surfers, swimmers, families, and people simply wanting to relax. It’s large enough to have plenty of privacy and the waters are crystal clear on a calm day. The canal has a lovely walking loop, and you can also find the Tangara Trail, a bush track heading south behind Lauderdale. May’s beach is also nearby, a smaller and more secluded spot. Just a 10 minute drive away is Seven Mile, another sweeping beach with incredible views of the southern hills. It’s also directly in front of the airport so you can watch the jets coming in to land.
