This cosy updated three double bedroom holiday home offers comfort with great indoor/outdoor flow to ample decking. Enjoy a glass of mulled wine sitting by the outdoor fireplace in a sheltered private garden or listen to the bird song from the covered verandah. Next to a reserve, a short walk to a playground, tennis court or the shop. Lake Taupo with swimming beaches and boat ramps are a short walk or drive away. Nearby attractions include lake side walks, tramps/hikes (Tongariro Crossing), bike trails, kayaking, river rafting and skiing.

We loved our stay at Bonnie Doon. It's close to the beautiful trails in the Tongariro National Park, and Tūrangi is a short drive to get petrol and food. The kitchen and bathroom is modern and fully equipped to cook and do laundry; our expectations were exceeded.

Hi, originally from Liverpool, UK, I have lived in New Zealand for over 30 years. I enjoy trout fishing, riding my bike on trails, walking and hiking.

Why they chose this property

Omori is a small quiet settlement that is located on the western side of Lake Taupo just 15 minutes drive from the town of Turangi. Omori is peaceful, plenty of bird song and beautiful country and lake side walks possible from door step at Bonnie Doon. The lake and mountains views from the walks are stunning.

The boat launching ramps at Omori and nearby Kuratau are excellent. It is possible to hire kayaks for a trip on the lake or up the Kuratau river, which is idyllic.

Tongariro National park provides access to great hiking and tramping including The Tongariro Crossing as a plethora of short walks through to multi day hikes/tramps. Whakapapa and Ohakune ski fields are within the park.

In Omori there is a store for basic supplies as well as ice cream, it also does fish and chips on a weekend. In Kuratau, nearby, the Floating Rock Cafe does good coffee and wood fired pizza. Turangi, 15 minutes drive, has all the amenities of a small town including supermarket, fuel, pharmacy and a few cafes. Taupo, 1 hours drive, has an abundance of shopping, restaurants and lake based activities.

What makes this property unique

Bonnie Doon has a private fully fenced sheltered garden, which is next to a small reserve. Sitting on the veranda, drinking your morning coffee or tea, listening to the bird song and watching a family of quails wander across the garden is special.

There is ample decking including an outdoor fire place, outdoor dining table, bbq, and fish cleaning sink. There is a lemon tree which is great for that G&T at the end of the day or grilling a trout on the bbq.

A log burner can be lit to make a cold winter night cosy. The is comfortable seating for six guests as well as dining spaces for six. The kitchen is equipped to create a culinary delight. There bathroom includes laundry facilities.
