The Artist's Beach House is situated on the Antigonish Harbour just ten minutes from a lovely university town. This quiet retreat feels like it’s worlds away. The house is surrounded by water – on 6 acres of land. The beach goes on forever and is nicely secluded – swimming is excellent in the warmest waters north of the Carolina's. So is canoing and kayaking on the harbour where there’s so much to discover. The grounds are truly spectacular with gardens everywhere including an herb garden for the gourmet. In season, the best lobster in the world can be had fresh off the boats nearby.
This architect designed house is ideal for entertaining with wrap around decks and porches complete with ample outdoor eating areas. We have a wheel chair ramp on the back deck which makes the whole first floor with two bedrooms accessible. Indoors you’ll be greeted with warm cherry wood throughout, walls full of original art, oriental rugs on the floors and sumptuous furnishings everywhere. All the amenities are there to pamper you during your stay including a portable crib and high chair for the little ones. When the nights are cool there’s nothing better than curling up in front of the fireplace with a good book or movie. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, colorful and artistic.
The views from every room are spectacular. All of our guests tell us that the photos don’t do it justice. It truly is a beautiful place!
I fell in love with Nova Scotia as an art student in the 1970's. I returned to Ontario to complete my education and life took over and I stayed. In 1994 in a quest for peace and harmony I moved back with my young children. I was so fortunate to discover Antigonish and this magical property that I purchased in 1998. Since then I have been cultivating my friends, my house, a guest cottage where I stay in the summer, and the surrounding gardens. Now that my children are grown I'm delighted to welcome guests from around world to experience what I am lucky enough to enjoy every day.
Tiiu Poder purchased this house in 1998
Being close to nature on the land and in the sea is a privilege that I wouldn't trade for anything. I watch eagles dive for prey from my windows and welcome a pair of great blue herons every spring. The pair of pileated woodpeckers in the forest are a thrill to discover when they allow themselves to be seen. The sounds of the tidal waters are a dream and jumping into them after a day of gardening in the hot sun is about as good as it gets. I visit my friends across the harbour in my canoe and every summer I hear them hollering my name from their sailboat just offshore. As an artist I am most inspired by the profound beauty that surrounds me in my little piece of heaven.
What a great week! Our wedding party really enjoyed our time here at the Artists Cottage. It was so relaxing to stay at such a beautiful place leading up to our wedding. The property was so nice for us to relax and enjoy the views We had great nights cooking big meals for the 10 of us and we enjoyed living together in this beautiful place.
Wow, what a great two weeks we had at your beautiful home! The location is just excellent allowing us to take numerous day trips. We especially enjoyed being able to purchase lobsters directly off the boats as they returned to dock. Of course being able to cook them right in the back yard was an added treat. The large open decks were a great place to drink our morning coffee as well as have happy hour. The kids really enjoyed the large yard to roam in as did the dogs. A well appointed kitchen was appreciated and an exception to what we have found at other rentals. Along with all the positives of the property itself I can't say enough about your hospitality and the time you spent answering our many questions. You certainly went out of your way to see that we had a great experience.
Thanks for the memories which we will cherish until our next trip. You, your lovely home and Nova Scotia in general will always be remembered as very special.
It was a perfect place for a group gathering. We were in antigonish for a family wedding and the beach house provided the perfect retreat for our own family. The decks around the house were fabulous and the property beautifully cared for. A stone beach surrounds the property and we were able to have a fire on the beach a couple of evenings. We drove into Antigonish frequently for food, restaurants etc and drove up the coastline to swim. We could see our wedding tent across the water and ended up there a lot but were very happy to come home to "a slice of heaven" at the end of every day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Artist's Beach House. It was large enough to accommodate our large family and provide something for everyone. The location is private and the scenery is absolutely fantastic. There is no place in or around the house that did not provide a stunning view. The yard was large and the children enjoyed playing there. The adults loved the porch and deck to sit, unwind and read. There is plenty to do around there. We stayed for 2 weeks and didn't feel we had enough time to do everything we wanted to do. Tiiu, the owner, was kind and hospitable. It is a great place to stay, play and relax!
We were visiting Antigonish for a family reunion. Our group included siblings, spouses, in-laws and adult children for a total of 7 in our party. The Artist's Beach House was the perfect place for us. Close enough to town for reunion activities yet far enough away to be our own wonderful oasis away from it all. There was lots of space for all of us and the house was immaculate, well furnished and had an excellent very well equipped kitchen for those evenings when we chose to host other family members for dinner. Long warm nights on the verandahs capped off the warm summers days. Can't say enough good things about this property. We would highly recommend the Artist's Beach House to anyone.
Antigonish is the absolute epitome of what a Nova Scotia stay should be all about. This home provided needs for all levels of the family. Teens, parents, grandparents and friends. The beauty of this home is one that resonates in my daily thoughts. So look no further, book your stay. Can't wait till our next visit!
We found the perfect spot for family reunion at the Artist's Beach House. The house and setting reminded us of home with a great porch overlooking the bay on beautiful grounds that were private and even remote, yet only 10 minutes from Antigonish. The house was
clean and well kept - so comfortable whether dining together, relaxing or enjoying cocktails in the sun room or on the deck. The kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfortable and there were lots of activities on the grounds as well as kayaking on the bay.
The location was well situated for daytrips exploring the coast and Cape Breton Island.
Tiiu, the owner, was a gracious hostess - welcoming, friendly and very helpful in suggesting things to do and paces to eat. We felt like we made a friend and we certainly made ourselves at home at our new friend's home.
The property is located on a pebbly beach with 1200' of waterfront. In addition there are many beautiful sandy beaches within boating and driving distance that are relatively uninhabited. Antigonish is a university town and often has interesting activities associated with the university. It's also a community rich in the arts.
