About this property

Stunning log home on Pike Lake with many amenities. Perfect for larger groups

Pike Lake Lodge is nestled on 2.5 wooded acres just outside Duluth and only 2.5 hours from Minneapolis. Located on the shoreline of Pike Lake - one of the most popular lakes in the area. It's known for its clear water and sandy beaches.

There is a golf course and restaurant on the east end of the lake (Pike Lake Golf and Beach Club) that is open to the public. In the summer you can rent a pontoon boat there. The property features several nice amenities such as a Finnish sauna, sport court, outdoor fire pit (some wood provided), private sandy beach, pinball machine, bubble hockey, wet bar, ping pong table, gas fireplace and beach house with additional sleeping areas. Beautifully lit pathways guide your stroll around the property. Inside the home is a true 'up north' feel and you'll have more than enough space for your entire group with over 4,300 sq. ft. and an awe-inspiring 30' high vaulted living room ceiling. Cozy up with a good book by the fireplace. Or get the whole family together for a movie in the basement on the 70" big screen TV. Music lovers will enjoy speakers throughout the home and outdoors, where you can immerse yourself in sound. Kids will enjoy the pinball machine and bubble hockey in the basement and ping pong table in the garage. And everyone will enjoy the hot tub too! At Pike Lake Lodge, there's something for everyone no matter what age!

And for the adventure seekers:

Pike Lake Lodge is located near miles of Mountain biking trails and Canosia Wildlife Management area and not far from Sax Zim Bog for our birding friends. Our location provides an easy location to explore all that the North Shore has to offer. Canal Park, the Duluth Aquarium, Spirit Mountain and Downtown Duluth are just minutes away for those that want to spend a day or night on the town. The Miller Hill Mall area is also just minutes away where you can find all your favorite creature comforts like Target, Best Buy, Kohls, etc. With all the amenities and attention to detail, your stay at Pike Lake Lodge will be a memorable one! We look forward to hosting your group!

This is our group’s third year lodging here for our event in Duluth. It’s been a delight each time. We were very comfortable and had fun with all the amenities. The kids were even brave enough to get in the cold April water!

It's a good lakeside property that the whole family enjoyed. Just like most VRBO's though it is furnished with Goodwill furniture mostly and cheap beds. The lake access with the deck was fun for everyone and the lake house was relaxing to hang out in. Even the basketball court was a good addition. The main draws for this property is the location on the lake and the size for family getaways. Two refrigerators was great with the large pantry. Two primary complaints are the air conditioning not cooling the house at all and the lengthy checkout process despite charging a large, non-refundable cleaning fee. The air conditioning wasn't as big of a deal because we went at the end of spring so it wasn't too hot but the end of the day the upstairs was a bit unbearable. The cleaning requests that they give is way too much for the price they charge with an included fee.tldr: fun lake house for family but it doesn't cool down much on hotter days and their cleaning requests is too much for the price they charge.

Thanks for your review. We apologize for the air conditioning not working. Had you let us know during your stay we would've sent someone out to look at it. After you checked out and let us know we sent out a repairman and discovered there was a leak in the refrigerant. Due to the age of the AC unit we are having it replaced. I'm sorry you felt the cleaning list was too long. This information is available to you on our listing so you would've known that before booking. This is a big house and a large property. It takes around 10 hours to clean so we do ask people to help with the basics like stripping sheets and taking out the garbage. Your group did none of these things, which was disappointing. I find it laughable that you wrote TLDR for a checklist of 10 items. Renting a VRBO is not like renting a hotel or staying at a resort. You're renting someone's house. We ask our guests to treat our home like they would treat a relative's home. And just so you know, our furniture was mostly purchased new at Schneiderman's in Duluth. Almost all of the beds are "Purple" brand and were purchased new. Some of the furniture is from our old house but I can assure you none of it was purchased at Goodwill. To future guests reading this, please make sure you let us know about any deficiencies in the home DURING your stay. Rather than write a negative review after your stay. We can't help you if you don't give us the opportunity. Despite our best efforts sometimes things break and we are unaware of them.

Hot tub was perfect. We didn’t use the sauna but that’s because we have one and don’t have a hot tub. So that was a priority. The location is perfect and my husband and grandkids caught a ton of perch! So thankful to have found this place for our family. Also thanks for the coffee!! We plan to order some!

The house was clean and very nice. We enjoyed the hot tub, sauna and beach area. The house is at the end of a long wooded driveway, which gives the feeling of being remote while still being near local sites and shopping. Chris, the onsite caretaker, was great and helpful.

About the host

Hosted by Eric Lunseth

Host profile image
Eric and Shay Lunseth have 2 kids and live in the Twin Cities. They are co-owners of Organic Lawns by LUNSETH and LUNSETH Lawn Care Professionals. Their companies specialize in organic lawn care and commercial grounds maintenance. They are avid lovers of the outdoors and spend as much time as possible outside!

Why they chose this property

We can't get enough of the north shore of Lake Superior! We bought this property because it's a great jumping off point for all that this part of the state has to offer. The outdoor activities around here are endless!

What makes this property unique

One unique benefit of this property is it's proximity to both "civilization" and the wilderness. At night, you can hear a pin drop and see millions of stars and possibly the northern lights. During the day, you can run a quick errand to the Miller Hill Mall area or downtown Duluth, located just minutes away. You're close enough to town you can even have a pizza delivered but far enough away to get that "up north" feel.
