All we needed and more!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family stayed at the Hemlock Lake House to celebrate our son's graduation from Hillsdale College. The house is so much bigger than it looks on the outside. We all had our own beds and with 4 full baths everyone had plenty of room to get ready for the commencement ceremony. Afterwards, we all celebrated with a cookout . There was plenty of seating both inside and outside and everyone was so appreciative to have a nice place to relax and celebrate after traveling so far. Much better than a hotel room! The house was nice and clean and the kitchen was stocked well with plenty of dishes, cookware, and even some large bowls for all our food. It turned out to be a pretty weekend so we were able to enjoy the kayaks (they have 6!) - such a pretty lake. You do have to bring your own linens & towels but it wasn't a big deal. Each family brought their own so it wasn't too much for anyone. I brought a plastic tub so we could bring them back home easily for washing. Also, you need to clean to get your deposit back, but the owners have instructions and supplies so that wasn't a big deal either. Our family all helped and we had it done in no time. The rate for this huge house is much better than reserving 4 hotel rooms which is what we would have needed, and the bonus is we had so much more room and didn't have to eat at expensive restaurants. It was such a blessing to spend our time here celebrating with family.

Relaxing Vacation with our Large Family.

  • 5 of 5

Our large family, of up to 18 at times, enjoyed a week at the Hemlock Lake House. We came prepared with all our own linens as necessary for the rental. We used the washer and dryer multiple times every day and they worked great. The kitchen was stocked wonderfully for a large group with plenty of everything. There was a good variety of cooking pots large and small, large bowls, and plenty of utensils. Your pancake griddle was very useful and worked wonderfully. The house came with a nice supply of indoor and outdoor games and puzzles. We were also very excited by the supply of kayaks large and small and other boats that were at the house for our use. Your pier for the boats was just right and we enjoyed swimming in the water in front of the house and floating on our rafts. The lake was great with the time in the morning and evening for calmer waters. We spent a lot of time exploring the lake at all hours. I think my favorite was at 10 pm just staring up at the stars. The selection of life preservers was much more thorough then I expected with adult and youth jackets. There was also plenty of outdoor chairs on upper and lower deck areas. I would be happy to share your property info with any of my friends who are interested in renting your house.

My husband and I, and our boys on their sleeping bags, enjoyed the master bedroom. The view was great and my husband had a very good pair of noise cancelling headphones that let him go to bed at 10:00 and not be bothered by the games and talk that were going on below. We used all the types of beds except for the pull out couch and they were good.

Your house is beautiful and we enjoyed reading your families history that is framed by the door. What a blessed story.

Nice Property

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful house. Very comfortable, had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the lake and ability to use kayaks.

The only issue was that the house wasn't very clean when we arrived. Not a big deal. Besides that a great property and location!

Wonderful home for large gathering.

  • 5 of 5

I recently rented this wonderful lake house for a girls weekend. When we arrived we were so pleased with the comfort, cleanliness, and decor of this beautiful home. It looks just like the photos on VRBO. It had every feature of home, with a wonderful view and a lot of space for large groups. We were a group of 10 women celebrating life, marriage and lifetime of friendships. Unfortunately the weather was not so great, but we plan to go back for a summer trip and utilize the outdoor activies. The house has kayaks, and we really wanted to spend time on the lake. Next time, as we are planning to go back.

The owners were very responsive to my questions, calls and refunded my deposit right away. I highly recommend this home for anyone wanting to relax and enjoy a quiet place.

Greet Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My mother recently retired and had her 60th B-day. As a gift us kids wanted to give her what she always asks us for, but can be difficult to give/coordinate, our time as a family. With very little background we decided to rent the Hemlock Lake House. The Minehart family was so very accommodating and kind start to finish. The house was beautiful, clean, and very well thought out. Having the canoe and kayaks for the lake was so much fun as well! The entire family was able to relax and enjoy. We hope to visit again next summer!

Family Time

  • 3 of 5

Our family travels from Florida, Alabama and Michigan to meet up at a lake house in Michigan each year. The Hemlock house was our choice this year for ourselves, grown kids and grands. A lovely home, kitchen well stocked. Somehow I missed that we had to bring our own linens! This was a big inconvenience! Our truck was loaded down with towels and bedding. Please beware, the pillows provided were terrible and lumpy, some in shams. Blankets provided? They were piled in the floor of the closet, we washed them first, many were stained. The lake is full of muck! I was concerned and checked before we booked with Jim and Carol. There is no way a little one could play in all that seaweed and muck. We were fortunate to have our boat for tubing. Wearing water shoes is not enough! The main TV works poorly, the one downstairs not hooked to cable. The stairs going down to the water or bonfire have no lighting at night and are very dangerous. A deposit for cleaning is required which you will get back IF you clean before you check out at NOON. My question I asked the owners was how will I know the tenants before me cleaned? "Caretakers check", I was told. We ended up cleaning upon arrival, It did not meet our standards. We did not clean at the end of our stay since I had to spend a day traveling home only to wash towels and sheets. We have rented for years. We spent $854. on groceries and only had to go to the bait shop for milk and ice cream! We try to make our week relaxed and easy. We will not return to this house for it was not convenient for our family.

Owner's Response: Please allow me to address some of the issues mentioned in this review: 1. We are so sorry you did not know about our linen policy. It is clearly stated on our website that all potential guests are to bring linens, and stated again in the instructions mailed right before your arrival. 2. Hemlock Lake is a beautiful, spring-fed lake with clean water. It's definitely not "full" of muck. The lake bottom in front of our house does have some muck and seaweed, typical of a lake. Water shoes are recommended. There are several places nearby on the lake where you can go by kayak or boat that have a sandy bottom. It's a great all-sport lake. 3. We do have a large deck with steps leading down to the fire pit and lake. There is a railing for safety all the way down, with solar lights at the bottom and deck lights at the top for night walking. Or, at night, the lake and fire pit can be accessed through the lower level, without having to use the outdoor deck steps. 4. Here is our cleaning system: We have a $200 cleaning deposit that will be refunded after your stay, if you clean the house. There are cleaning supplies there for you to use. At the end of your stay, our care-takers have a 4 hour window to take inventory, and check that it is cleaned and ready for the next renters. If it has not been cleaned, our care-takers will do the cleaning and your cleaning deposit is not returned. 90% of our renters do the cleaning and get the $200 back. The writers of this review did tell us ahead of time that they would not be cleaning, after their week's stay, so our caretakers were prepared to do it all. We do appreciate all comments, and our goals continue to be that our guests are comfortable and make wonderful memories with family and friends. Our loyalty policy is that all repeat renters will receive a $75 gift card to Olivia's or Saucy Dogs Restaurants in Jonesville, MI. And, it is interesting to note that the guests who were there the week before and the week after this review will both be returning in the summer of 2016! -Carol & Jim
