About the property

Farmhouse,1 Bedroom with double bed + one single bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3 people)

The farm-holyday resort Agriturismo Podere Cunina is immerged in a large natural reserve , with a lot of wild small and mid size animals, offers to the tourists a finely renovated flat with sight on Montalcino, mount Amiata and the hills of Buonconvento and Siena

WE HAVE 7 FLATS AVAILABLE, PLEASE, CONTACT FOR DETAILS ABOUT OUR OTHER FLATS. We offer unforgettable and very interesting wine tours and cooking classes.

The farmhouse is equipped with ancient quality furniture, fitted with all modern comfort items, with maximum level certifications regarding the safety and the energy saving (floor heating/ refreshing with geothermal system, thermal and acoustic insulation).

Silvana, Piergiorgio, and their family invite you to spend a vacation at Podere Cunina, an old Tuscan farmhouse situated on a hill with a 360° panoramic view. The farmhouse and grounds were restored to include 7 apartments, barbeque and picnic areas, and a swimming pool with wi-fi connection. Podere Cunina is an ideal location from which to discover the Crete Senesi, Val d'Orcia, and all of Tuscany. Surrounded by this ancient landscape, essential and harmonious, your respect and love for nature's beauty will be nourished. Your eyes and your soul will remember it….and you will remain always attracted to this land

Livestock paths, numerous vineyards, olive-groves, truffle-grounds, and lush forests with oaks, ilexes, broom and hawthorn can be seen here. Travelling along the rural dirt roads, often located on hill ridges, seems like sailing among waves of earth and, when overlooked by an open sky and pushed by the wind, one feels very small.

This land is crossed by the ancient Via Cassia road and is part of the Francigena pilgrims route. It is rich with old parish-churches, abbeys, and ancient farmhouses and thermal springs, as well as travertine quarries which gave birth to the famous local handicrafts. Due to their peculiar landscape and the abundance of artistic and historical references, the Sienese Clay Hills are among the most famous and photographed environments in Italy. Set between the hills, the fields of grain and the cypress trees, the Clay Hills are a countryside heritage protected by UNESCO. Here mass tourism doesn't exist, it would be destructive and would devastate the intimacy and harmony eminating from these hills. In recent yeats efforts havebeen made to renovate local farmhouses and restart crop cultivation, which was abandoned in the '60s and '70s following industrial development. These rural smallholdings live again and often offer hospitality to tourists from all over the world as farm-holiday property and locations.

PODERE CUNINA in BUONCONVENTO is also a farm-holiday location within this system of architectural and landscape recovery that fully respects its environment. Traditional materials typical of the area, sourced via accurate and detailed research, were used for the renovation. Located inside a large nature reserve, with many small and medium-sized woodland animals, it offers 7 finely-renovated flats to tourists, with views of Montalcino, Mount Amiata and the hills of Buonconvento and Siena. It is equipped throughout with quality, antique furniture, fitted with all modern comforts, with maximum level certification regarding safety and energy saving (underfloor heating via geothermal system, thermal insulation, pool).

Again in the light of environmental recovery, we have restarted working the soil by restoring a small existing olive-grove and creating a new one with about 800 plants of the species Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo, and Pendolino. The agricultural production of this small farm is the biological Pure Olive Oil ('extravirgin') from the Sienese Clay Hills, honey and organic saffron.

A loving restoration

Over a delicious lunch prepared by son Marcello, who is a trained chef and thus offers guests private cooking lessons, we heard the passion and love that Silvana, Piergiorgio and their children have put into the estate. Piergiorgio explained how the restoration took years, as they recuperated as much of the original materials as possible and then went on the search for original pieces to decorate their new home. The restoration is high quality, with beautiful fixtures and furnishings blending in perfectly with the feel of an old farmhouse: the authentic hand-painted walls were done by Piergiorgio himself and the heavy wooden shutters on the windows, wrought-iron beds and tiles in the apartments combine perfectly with every modern convenience (including TVs which I imagine I would never even turn on if I stayed here).

FARMHOUSE PODERE CUNINA OF SILVANA FREDDI purchased this farmhouse in 2004

If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, to feel amazement from a glance towards the skyline, or a walk, or some woodland animal crossing your path, for a sunset caressed by the fresh evening breeze, to experience emotion for fascinating and amazing artistic places immersed in such unique, calm and silent environments, COME TO the FARMHOUSE CUNINA in BUONCONVENTO, and you enjoy the Tuscan countryside.

Each apartment is high quality, typical from Tuscany, comfortable and elegant with panoramic view. All very romantic.

To offer you a home away from home.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The ground has amazing colours and is so maleable that anyone passing over it leaves tracks. Livestock paths, numerous vineyards, olive-groves, truffle-grounds, and lush forests with oaks, ilexes, broom and hawthorn can be seen here..

Travelling along the rural dirt roads, often located on hill ridges, seems like sailing among waves of earth and, when overlooked by an open sky and pushed by the wind, one feels very small.

We had a fantastic stay at Podere Cunina. Our apartment was lovely with beautiful views. Our host went out of their way to make our stay even better than we anticipated. Be sure ask about a wine tour from Marcelo.

Honeymoon dream come true!

  • 5 of 5

What a simply beautiful property! We arrived in the evening after sunset so when we awoke the next morning, we were treated to a breathtaking panorama.

The apartment itself was excellently maintained: quaint farmhouse charm with all the modern amenities. The kitchen was well-equipped for our forays into Italian cooking.

The hosts were lovely, gracious, and helpful. We were very well taken care of. It was clear that Silvana and Piergiorgio take great care and pride in their home and business. It was also very interesting to see the comings and goings of an active farm . We enjoyed being able to purchase products that were harvested on site (olive oil, saffron, honey) and learn about the different processes involved.

The Podere is ideally situated for sightseeing around the must-see places in Tuscany. A car is a necessity.

Book now, you won't regret it. We can't wait to visit again!

Best part of our trip to Italy

  • 5 of 5

We decided to try staying at an agritourist apartment for 5 days of our vacation to Italy. We so regret that we didn't stay longer and simply do 1 or 2 day trips to Florence. It was November and the weather was a little on the cool side but that didn't really matter as we spent most days exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside and all the charming and lovely nearby towns, with a lot of suggestions from Silvana. Our cooking class was great and even though I thought we were fairly good at cooking we learned a great deal of technical information from Marcelo and the meal with him and his family was really wonderful. If you go take advantage of the wine tour, again led by Marcelo who knows a great deal about wines as well as picking some representative wineries which we might have missed if we had been on our own. Our apartment was specious, clean and well stocked as we did a fair amount of our own food preparation, the bed was comfortable and the scenery is to die for beautiful and that part is absolutely free. If we return to Italy we will head straight to the Freddi farm.

Dream vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Podere Cunina has been a wonderful experience. The house is located on a hilltop from where you can see Montalcino. Our apartment was spacious and extremely clean and comfortable. You can see that the owners have put great efforts in choosing the right furniture and equipment. You will live amongst fruit trees, olive trees and a saffron culture ground. The pool is beautiful with a 360° panoramic view.

Silvana and Piergiorgio are fantastic hosts, always available to inform you on the activities to do and the best roads to take to visit the region. We took numerous daytrips on dirt roads with spectacular landscapes to visit Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, Sienna and San Gimignano. We saw the Tuscany we had seen in our dreams.

We also took a cooking class with Marcello and we had dinner with the family and other residents who participated in the lesson. We had one of the best meal we ever had in Italy and this was the highlight of our stay at Podere Cunina. The next time we go to Tuscany we will without a doubt go back to Podere Cunina.

Thank you.

Incredible home in Toscana!

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying the host family is so welcoming and helpful! My husband and I are the small pecentage of people who choose not to rent our own car in Tuscany and they helped us find our way and came to pick us up in town. Marcello drove us on a spectacular private wine tour the one full day we spent there and we had such a good time! It was definitely one our favorite days of our whole honeymoon. The property is pure magic. We enjoyed ourselves so much at podere cunina! We look forward to returning again some day!

Great Tuscany Location

  • 5 of 5

As other visitors to Podere Cunina, i must give a 5 star review. The location of their beautiful agriturismo is perfect. Minutes from charming Buonconvento, and less than 30 minutes from multiple other beautiful Tuscan hilltop towns like Montalcino(which can be seen from the house), Pienza, Montepulciano, and of course Sienna. This makes relaxing day trips possible and still allows time to return to enjoy Podere Cunina. What a beautiful place ! The family has done an amazing job restoring this property and it's location is breathtaking. The apartment we stayed in, Salix, was neat , modern ,and well decorated. We used the kitchen for a few late night Tuscan dinners , and it's beautiful archway door looked out on a gorgeous countryside. The grounds were well landscaped with natural herbs everywhere, which were used in the cooking class. The space was perfect for my wife and I, and my son and his wife, with 2 upstairs bedrooms. The most amazing thing about this property though, is the family Freddi. Warm ,gracious and genuine, they made our stay seem like we were staying with old friends. The cooking class with Marcello and dinner with the family was the highlight of our trip. Using herbs from the garden and fresh local produce, we spent an afternoon preparing a 4 course Italian dinner that was perfect. We have since become experts at making gnocchi! Marcello was an informative and entertaining teacher , and we all agreed it was our favorite experience in Italy. To sum up- great location, great place, wonderful hosts.

Car: necessary

Coming from northern Italy, the Freddis came to visit Tuscany and, like many of us, fell in love with the region. They were lucky and bold enough to take on the challenge of restoring this farmhouse to the south of Siena from ruin, since it was pretty much just walls when they found it

We were invited by the Freddi family to come and visit this April and have a chat over lunch. As we drove up the dirt road with a few potholes here and there (nothing our own DT-mobile, a Toyota Prius, wasn't able to handle), we concurred that it was worth it! Anyone arriving here cannot be left untouched by the stupendous views of the surrounding hills..While the photos on their website are quite spectacular, the estate is so much better in person. To be told of the views is one thing, but to actually be there and be surrounded by them and see the medieval hilltop village of Montalcino just beyond the house is certainly another. I stopped and imagined enjoying the sunset by the pool, carved out on the hill just below the house, with a glass of wine and the view: what dreams are made of!!
