Charming villa with private pool near Pont du Gard

Bedrooms 2
Space 968 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, beautiful kitchen, indoor/outdoor dining and large patio.

Welcome to Villa Le Provence – our home in Vers-Pont-du-Gard.

Our two bedroom, one-level villa is ideally situated on the edge of a charming village in the shadow of that most famous of Roman aqueducts – the Pont-du-Gard. The old quarries (carrières) that supplied stone for the Roman structures in our area are just a short walk from our front door, as is the village bakery, bar, tabac and restaurant.

Inside: Our house was built in 1990 with thick walls to keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. It’s ideal for a small family or one or two couples and anyone who wants to enjoy indoor-outdoor living at its best. We have air-conditioned two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two singles. A portable baby bed is also available. The living room features a wood-burning stone fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD and CD player. The kitchen is fully-equipped ‘Provençal-style’ with a large gas range and grill, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of dishes and utensils. The veranda sunroom is ideal for dining (except in winter) with a large family table seating eight. The modern bathroom has a large jetted tub and separate shower. There is a washing machine.

We have free wifi and long distance calling.

Outside: The pool is the perfect place to cool off after sightseeing, shopping or any activity. It is accompanied by a beautiful stone patio ideal for sunbathing, or a bit of leisurely reading.

The house is surrounded by a high wall, ensuring your privacy. There is a barbeque and furniture for sitting or dining outdoors. There is also a playhouse for children.

Activities: The Pont-du-Gard is just 4 kilometres from our house. It’s spectacular. You can visit at your own pace, picnic and swim in the river, or make an afternoon of it by renting a kayak in the nearby village of Collias and paddling underneath the ancient arches.

We are 11 kilometres from the beautiful medieval town of Uzès, with its cafes and restaurants, Ducal Palace and colourful weekly markets at the Place aux Herbes.

Nearby are Avignon, (visit the Palace of the Popes, or enjoy the summer theatre festival), Nîmes (with its Roman Arena and the Maison Carré), Arles (Roman Arena, Van Gogh house and excellent Museum of Antiquities), and Orange (exceptionally well-preserved Roman amphitheatre). The Mediterranean coast is about a one-hour drive with great seafood and beaches.

And of course the entire area is a feast for eyes as you walk, bicycle or drive through vineyards and villages. It’s real France, without the tourist hype of the Cote d’Azur.

With outstanding wine and 300 days of sunshine a year in our region of France, life is good. Bon appetit and santé!

About Ron Johnson

We are a Canadian couple from Vancouver BC, with a great appreciation from French 'joie de vivre'. After travelling in so many regions of France we knew immediately this area was the place for us.

Ron Johnson purchased this villa in 2008

Why Ron Johnson chose Vers-Pont-du-Gard

The Uzès region is so easily accessible, the weather is fantastic, and there are so many different things to see and do here. The nearby Roman ruins give the place a feeling of drama. And the local food and wine is out of this world.

What makes this villa unique

The French say 'la vie est douce' in our region – life is easy, or sweet. Whether its art, culture, cuisine or outdoor activity, everyday you get the feeling that Life is Good here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

a lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely two week stay summer 2016. The villa is in great condition the kitchen just encourages you to cook and eat outside in the evening, the pool is fantastic and the walls keep the mistral at bay. We managed two trips to Mount Ventoux by car and cycled up from Bedoin. Particularly recommend drive or cycle through Gorge de Nesque from Sault at the foot of Ventoux. Uzes is fabulous for a wander round have some lunch and head back to the pool to catch some sun and a beer. Vers is also lovely to wander around, coffee, beer and lunch at the Grange. Morning runs to the boulangerie for fresh bread and a chance for my son to practice his french. Contact with the owners was very easy and prompt and the house manager Annie was very friendly and helpful. We want to come back.

An Exceptional Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

After reviewing every reasonable property within 35-40 miles of Avignon, we decided that the villa in Vers Pont du Gard was the place to stay. It met or exceeded all of our expectations. It was located in a quiet area with security and privacy assured behind locked gates. If you think you would like to shop for food and cook French meals in an amazing kitchen, this is the place. There are two places to dine outside and two places inside. The bath area was large and included a modern shower and a large tub/jacuzzi plus a sink with lots of counter and shelf space on each side. Two sleeping rooms were comfortable, had lights by the side of each bed and had plenty of storage. The living area included a TV, a DVD, and WiFi, all provided by Orange.

The small town of Vers Pont du Gard provides many of the things you might need at the last minute. A five minute walk will take you to the local bakery, to a small store for produce and other items, and to an award winning wine merchant. In addition, the town square has two market days each week.

The owners provided great email support and in the villa there was a complete folder explaining everything you would need to know. The property manager met us and introduced us to the villa, and she was available to answer any questions we had.

Beyond the town, there are nearby restaurants that will appeal to almost every discerning diner, and you will have fun compiling your own list based on Michelin, Gault & Millaut, Trip Advisor, etc.

There are so many things to see and do within an hour's drive that we just scratched the surface during our two week stay. The cities of Avignon, Arles and Nimes have many attractions, including impressive Roman structures. The nearby Pont du Gard aqueduct is one of the most outstanding feats of Roman engineering. From the Camargue and beaches near Aigues Morte in the south to the wine country in the north, to the Luberon hikes and walks in the east, to the town of Uzes nearby to the west, you will be able to fill your days with fun. We felt so lucky to have had such a great place to stay and so many things to do, that we put the villa on our short "revisit list." Few places have that distinction, so we would recommend the villa to anyone with a car and a willingness to explore and find delight in things Provence.

A Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

After looking at every feasible place with 35-45 miles of Avignon, we chose this villa in Vers Pont du Gard, and it met or exceeded every expectation. A quiet location with security and privacy behind locked gates. An amazing kitchen for those who like to shop for food and cook French meals, plus a grill just outside. Two tables inside and two tables outside for a place to dine. A very large shower and bath/jacuuzzi area with twin sinks. Two comfortable sleeping rooms with plenty of storage. A comfortable area for TV, DVD, Internet and WiFi.

A five minute walk takes you to a local grocer, bakery, and wine producer. Nearby there are a variety of attractions to satisfy every interest and to keep you busy, plus there are a wide selection of restaurants to please almost anyone. What's not to love about this villa?

Un petit paradis dans une region magnifique

  • 5 of 5

Brussels family

The house was perfect for us-lovely pool and plenty of shady places to laze. The village is really delightful (we arrived on July 14th and there was a Fete Folklorique) and the local boulangerie and bar etc are just a short walk from the house. Uzes is probably our favourite place in France and that is only about 10k away with its great market and restaurants.

If you like cooking, the kitchen is wonderfully equipped. If you don't, there are some good local restaurants. We liked Le Jardin de la Gare.

We didn't go kayaking as our son had broken hand (!) but that is a really fun activity- under the spectacular Roman aqueduct -the Pont du Gard.

The owners were extremely helpful in advance of our trip and Yves, who welcomed us to the property, was fantastic.

Great vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Great house in a charming and peaceful town. The pool was wonderful and the house is really well equipped. The stove is amazing! The property manager was really professional and kind and was available if we had any questions or concerns. If travelling with children the house has a playhouse near the pool. Our children spent hours inside it having a great time. We were just a short drive to Uzes, the Pont du Gard, Avignon and lots of other lovely towns. We really enjoyed this home and would stay again.
