About this property

The Darst-Myers Hallstead

If you're looking for an unplugged family farm adventure, we'd love to share our cabin and farm property with you.

Enjoy petting and feeding our goats. Interact with free-range chickens. In the spring and summer, you may also find pigs, sheep or cows on the property. Our hens provide eggs guests may cook for their breakfast; guests bring their own side items to make a complete meal. We also provide complimentary snacks and filtered water in a glass dispenser. There is a small refrigerator/freezer combination in the cabin (dorm sized).

The cabin sleeps up to six guests, who choose to "rough it" with many comforts, including a queen bed, a futon, and two low twin beds in the loft (accessible only by ladder, not for children under 8).

Although there is no running water in the cabin itself, the restroom with shower is a short walk (about 40 yards) inside the basement of our farmhouse, with its own private entrance. This restroom is private to your party during your stay.

All linens are provided.

If no other events are scheduled during your stay, guests have use of the barn gym with "full court basketball" (two hoops), air hockey, playground balls and other fun activities like indoor swings. We also have a climbing wall— this experience is available April to October by special requests—additional fees apply.

We do not have a television in the cabin, and this is a purposeful decision. We have a selection of games, books, and puzzles, and there is much to do on the property itself, which features a small pond near the cabin with a paddle boat, kayak and canoe.

There is a fire pit right outside the cabin and firewood and matches are provided. There is a charcoal grill for cooking (bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid). Guests are also welcome to use any other fire rings on the property.

Free parking. It is a short walk to the cabin over uneven terrain. The property is not handicap accessible, though we can shuttle on our side-by-side ATV if special arrangements are made ahead of time.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Really enjoyed my stay.
I loved the pond with the fountain and your lunge area with the lights at night was so charming. I was in town for a funeral and having a cabin in the woods to retreat to helped me recharge. Thank you for being such great hosts.

Rustic
Nice property, very clean cabin. We stayed overnight for a softball tournament. The bathroom was neat and clean but was a little inconvenient not being attached to the cabin. All the pillows were very flat, and need changed out. I would also recommend a divider curtain or something for more privacy when changing. Going to the bathroom to just change clothes was a little annoying. Overall we had a good stay and loved the animals.

Great place to unplug
We just loved our stay at Darst-Meyers Hallstead! It was the perfect spot to unplug and enjoy time as a family. There was plenty of room for our family of four. The kids enjoyed the swings, playing basketball and airhokey in the barn loft. They also enjoyed visiting the goats and chickens. As a family we loved playing boardgames, grilling out, having a campfire. It was nice a peaceful on the farm. We enjoyed a trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park that has hiking and beautiful waterfalls. We explored around Hartville for some shoping and eating. Our hosts were very responsive when we had a question. We would love to come back for another visit some day!

Great Place to Unplug
This quaint little cabin allows you to completely unplug with some luxuries you're not completely roughing it. Highly recommend if you're trying to regroup or just relax and enjoy simple living.

About the host

Hosted by Donna Hall

Host profile image
We are Donna and Garry Hall, and we live on-site in the farmhouse. This farm has been in the Myers family since 1934 so there's a rich family history here. Donna has lived here since 1990. Our great niece and nephew are the sixth generation to grow up on what was once the original acreage. We value family-- ours and yours, and the amenities and activities for your farm stay have been designed with families in mind. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Why they chose this property

We find joy in sharing our property with others. We love the laughter of children as they discover new things. The Camp Cabin was built in 2006 for youth and family activities, but we are empty nesters, and it was sitting empty, until a friend urged me to rent it out. We've been renting it for a few years now, and while we are new to VRBO, we have garnered hundreds of positive reviews on other platforms. When you come, read others' stories in our Camp Cabin Journal, and write your own story as well.

What makes this property unique

Overwhelmingly, the number one adjective guests leave in our book is: PEACEFUL. This place has a peace about it that is hard to describe unless you experience it yourself. We hope you will visit soon.
