About this property

Modern Lake House 8 Miles from Ann Arbor

Save time, gas & stress by not driving up north. You can even keep working if you like, and the kids won’t miss their games! This home has a beautiful beach on private all sports Horseshoe Lake – a great swimming and fishing lake with little boat traffic.

Take a cruise around the lake in the boat, or just sit back and watch the kids swim. The included raft and beach toys will keep them entertained. You are also welcome to bring your own boat if you like - there is a private boat launch just down the road.

This home was built in 2008 and is well maintained. It has a well furnished kitchen and a BBQ. If you don't like to cook, you can have your food and drinks delivered!

The home sleeps six adults comfortably, and can accommodate more if some are children (or are otherwise willing to sleep in a semi-private loft area) Each of the three bedrooms has a king bed, and two of them also have a couch that converts into a double bed. The loft area also has a bunk bed as well.

I try to rent by the week only during the summer, with weeks starting on a Friday. So I may not accept a reservation request if it leaves me with an odd chunk of time that I might not be able to rent.

We enjoyed our stay at the house—it was spacious and well equipped. The weather was perfect and the grandchildren enjoyed swimming in the lake, kayaking and jumping off the raft.

Great location on the lake

Enjoyed our stay on the lake. Host communicated well and location was excellent. Home had all necessary amenities but was a little tired - table was old and broke which was then replaced during our stay. The main benefit is being right on a small lake with a good size yard!

Best cottage we’ve ever rented!

Nice private lake. Owner stocked the house with everything you could possibly need. The sandy bottom beach was perfect for our littles. There were plenty of beach chairs, floats, kayaks, fishing boat, paddle boat, dive platform and water toys. You literally need to bring nothing but your food! Our ages were 2 to 73 and all had a wonderful time.

Awesome place

This VRBO is the best we have ever stayed in. The house was well stocked with everything you could need for a weeks stay. The location was perfect for us. Our family had a great time and made so many memories. We are already checking dates for a return next year. Thanks John for sharing your "lake house" with us.

Listing is very accurate. House is very roomy. The beachfront is awesome. The lake was not busy at all. All the included beach and lake toys were fantastic. You can hear the highway when sitting on the beach. Host had excellent communication.

The Best!

John has insured that everything is there to make a perfect vacation! My grandboys, ages 10 and 14 enjoyed the beach, the water toys and the swimming platform. We adults really enjoyed the deck. This deck Is such a wonderful extension of the interior, that we automatically migrated outside for almost all our activities. The extra seating in the living room was such a bonus. Most 3 bdrm places ignore the need for sufficient seating in the living room. With 3 Hugh futons in front of the 75” TV, everyone had a place. I can’t say enough about how great this place was. There were 3 adults and 2 children but there was move around/usable space in EVERY room in the house. We will definitely be making reservations for next year.

Family get away close to home

Large house with sandy Beach for kids to play. There is a great dock in the lake for climbing and jumping. Very relaxing low key stay.

Great Family Getaway!

We had a great time at John's Lakehouse on Horseshoe Lake. Everything we needed was available and we enjoyed all the amenities including the lake, boat, kayak and sandy beach. Visited Dee's to get ice cream and the catch and release fishing for the kids was so fun. Great and relaxing family getaway! Thanks for a great week.

Home was great for our extended family of 9 from 6 to 87 yr. Lots of fun on the lake diving from raft, using paddle boat and kayaks. Home furnished plenty of towels, comfortable king beds, and appliances. Decks, chairs, etc. made for plenty of seating for visiting family members. We enjoyed our stay there.

Wonderful lake house

This property was a great place to unwind and relax! Wonderful accommodations for a large family, great space and comfortable. Very quiet, with a great beach where all ages can have fun!

Everything in description is accurate - just bring your tooth brush !

Home is well stocked (bath towels/beach towels); plenty of room (2 1/2 baths and an outdoor shower); nice floating raft; nice for swimming; nice fire pit; fishing boat, paddle boat and kayaks. We did have a power outage, BUT the owner has an in home system that when generator is turned on, you've got enough electric power until power returns !!

Perfect Family Vacation

John, the owner, was quick to respond to any questions or concerns! Wonderful quiet little lake with something for everyone to enjoy. The cottage is well stocked with paper products, linens, kitchen items etc. Lots of water toys, lifejackets, and anything one could pretty much want for use on the water. Nice little sandy beach for the kids, with gradual drop off. My family of 10 had a fantastic time and will be returning next year!

Whitmore Lake House

The owner communicated with us very accurately and promptly. He purchased a coffee grinder for us and responded promptly to an air conditioner problem. The house was well supplied with towels, linens, etc. Lots of outdoor seating and equipment. Also many items for fishing, boating, kayaking, etc. Beautiful view. Small sand beach. Close to Ann Arbor for lots of activities.

What a lovely home not far from all the large cities and so close to the highway. John was very easy to work with. It's amazing how many the home could sleep comfortably. There were tons of water activities to choose from.l I'm hoping the next time I stay it will be for a few more days and the weather will be a little more cooperative.

Perfect vacation!

What a wonderful time we had here! The things that were outside of John's control (weather, how the children behaved ;), the fishing) were absolutely terrific - there was a little rain, which was badly needed, but it was sporadic and gave us an excuse to go inside and play board games without feeling guilty. The things that were in John's control (the house, the yard, the "toys" for the lake) were equally terrific - we never ran out of things to do! Even though there were 11 of us, we had plenty of beds to sleep in, plenty of room to relax in, and plenty of things to do when we wanted to be active: kayaks, a paddleboat, a fishing boat, the beach, and things that float (including a floating dock offshore). Everyone loved the water and beach, and we spent almost every waking hour outside, either keeping busy on the waterfront or reading on the deck in the sun. John, thank you for opening your vacation home to us - we made such wonderful memories this past week!

Why they chose this property

I have a family cottage in northern Michigan, but I often can't get away on the weekends. I wanted to build a lake house close to my house, so I could use it when I have social commitments that require me to be in town on the weekend. I am renting it when I am not using it to help pay for it.

What makes this property unique

I love that it is just like being on a lake in northern Michigan - but I can be in downtown Ann Arbor or Brighton in 10 minutes.
