About Caroline Gullick

Partly brought up in the wilds of central Spain riding horses and swimming in the river. I went to school in England. I have been doing relief and development work in Africa for 21 years and love what I do it never ceases to be interesting. My sister also lives in Africa and owns desert horse trail operation in Namibia. When I came do decide where in the world I wanted to end up there was no question it was Spain. I found a perfect place in Jimena surrounded by wonderful countryside and now also some very good friends and Africa is just a hop away! I love my short trips to Jimena and I'm glad that other people are also happy staying there.

Caroline Gullick purchased this house in 2005

Why Caroline Gullick chose Costa de la Luz - Cadiz

The house us situated in the prettiest cobbled pedestrian street in Jimena. Just a stones throw away from the main square it remains secluded. It can easily accomodate 6 people with the luxury of a internal courtyard complete with plunge pool and a large roof terrace.

What makes this house unique

Close proximity to shops, parking and the heart of the village while maintaining your privacy.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We spent a wonderful week at Casa Solana in August 2009 with our 2 children aged 7 and 10 yrs. The house was beautiful;it was well maintained and equipped to a very high standard with almost everything you would need for a week away. We spent a couple of days exploring and visited Ronda which has a dramatic gorge and also some wonderful caves nearby which were very atmospheric as you explore by Davey lamp! The rest of the time we chose to spend at "La Solana",with its totally relaxing atmosphere.

living the Andalucian high life

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house, wonderful atmosphere, lots of beautiful touches combined with all the practical stuff you need for a good holiday. Much appreciated the food and drink on arrival (and plentiful supply of toilet paper!). Spent many happy hours in courtyard - plunge pool much appreciated as temperatures in upper thirties.Visited Cadiz, Gibraltar and Ronda, all superb, several local restaurants and bars and glad we persisted in finding sulphur baths at Manilva. Could happily have stayed another week.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Well done not wilting in the unusually high temperatures! Really happy to hear how much you enjoyed being here. Why not come back in spring time when all the wildflower so are out? Best wishes

Fabulous house and great location.

  • 5 of 5

House was much bigger and even better than it looked in the photographs. The kitchen was well equipped and we found the beds very comfortable. The top terrace was a lovely suprise and was good for sun bathing. Caroline was a great host and offered us useful information about places to visit. We found Jimena to be a great place in itself and also a good base for visits to other places.

A wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a few days in February and loved it. The house oozes character and had all the facilities that we needed. Caroline provided a wide selection of food and drink when we arrived, which made us feel very welcome. The location is beautiful. I just wish that we could have stayed longer! I would certainly stay here again.

All of the good things

  • 5 of 5

My husband and one year old son spent three months in Caroline's house and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Jimena is small, but it is loaded with wonderful people and true Spanish character. Everything you need is within footsteps. We became great friends with Catie, Caroline's house manager, who lives a block away. She watched our son for us for a few hours a day while we worked. This is a place that I would recommend to any families who are looking for a "true escape" from the attachments of the western world. I kept calling it my Eden. There is a significant presence of non-Spaniards in Jimena. If you look close enough or spend enough time there you will find them all doing the same as you - escaping and recalibrating. There is a great vegetarian restaurant by the train station that I frequented (Jimena is chorizo heavy in it's choices). If you rent a car there are a load of little towns to explore. We drove about an hour away and saw cave paintings that were over 30K years old. Rhonda is a must see if you're there for long enough to allow and Gibraltar will have everything you need if your there for an extended period. There are loads of beautiful plants scattered throughout the villa that are even more beautiful in person and I enjoyed many mornings doing Yoga on the beautiful patio. The kitchen is fully equipt with everyting (including a juicer to juice all of the delicious oranges in Jimana). Though there is no dryer it is very easy to hang clothes on the balcony to dry. There is a tv that we never used because somehow watching tv in Jimena seems like such a waste. Jimena loves babies and our son was immediately swarmed with love (especially by Catie who we grew to love so dearly). I think of Jimena every day and we will definitely be back.
