About Krista Kujat

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, I moved to NY in 2000 to pursue my passion for acting in film & theatre. I fell in love with Brooklyn, and I dreamt of one day owning a brownstone. That dream became a reality 5 years later. I'm an avid world traveller & always appreciate staying in non-toursity, local neighborhoods, so it gives me a lot of joy to create a space for visitors to discover, enjoy the soul of my neighborhood. Several films have since been shot at this location, and I still get requests for film shoots here. Come experience the charm & write your own adventure in Brooklyn!

Krista Kujat purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Krista Kujat chose Brooklyn

I love the charm of old brownstones, and this particular building had the rare details in tact, stained glass windows, gorgeous wood details that are often destroyed when buildings are renovated. The location, just a 5 minute walk from the subway was also a no-brainer!

What makes this apartment unique

Gorgeous pre-war details, 14 foot ceilings, old world charm.... hipster neighborhood... just a 5 minute walk to the subway!

Perfect Brooklyn Retreat Close to Manhattan

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four found this host and apartment to be perfect for our first big NYC trip. The reservations and check in were seamless. Krista's detailed directions from La Guardia were perfect. The Brownstone has so much character and history-a nice change from our 1990s home. We spent most days, eating the yummy bread, taking a short walk to the large Franklin street subway and finding ourselves easily in Manhattan by 9am. We returned around 8-9pm to walk the short distance comfortably after dark, stopping by Bob and Betty's grocery, Joe and Sal's pizzeria ( south of Eastern pkway-we stumbled on it by accident and love it),o the Brooklyn Winery for a bottle of wine on the walk home. We would eat and discuss the day's adventure around the kitchen table and retire to our personal spaces for some alone time-much needed after so many hours together and IMPOSSIBLE to get in a hotel room. I spent my time reading the many local and tourist books that Krista has for guests. We all slept great in our beds and the kitchen and bathroom had all that we needed. The apartment is on a quiet street, yet only 1/2 block from Franklin Ave commerce. We spent one day in Brooklyn after we dropped off our laundry at the corner launder; very reasonable and 24 hour service. Short walk to Botanical gardens (free Tues) and Prospect park; longer but very interesting walk to Brooklyn/Manhattan bridges/DUMBO. This walk took us through countless different neighborhoods with their different personalities. We enjoyed Catholic mass around the corner on Sterling- I will always remember the inspirational homily by Father St. Charles and his kindness in speaking with us personally. We found New Yorkers to be very helpful with directions and open to talking about their thoughts of the city. I found the city to be cleaner, less crowded, and feel safer than I expected. If you are new to the subway, recommend reading the MTA directions. Try to attempt your 1st turnstile entry during a quiet time with a station attendent near-my spouse and daughter locked their cards the first time. After that, it was easy travelling and we were so comfortable with the subway that we reversed Krista's directions to return to the airport for our early morning flight-just check the subway schedule as the early am trains run less often. We did so much in 6 days, but need to go back to do more. Thank you so much Krista for the lovely place to call our NYC

2 bedroom brownstone suite

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in November over the Thanksgiving holiday was great! This is a 2nd floor/private suite, very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to subway, grocery store, coffee shops and restaurants. Quiet and in a residential neighborhood. You won't be disappointed. Owner (Krista) was easy to work with and went out of her way to make sure our stay was everything we had hoped it would be. We took the subway into Manhattan almost every day-took a cab only when time was limited. We have already recommended this place to other friends and family. Thank you, Krista, for a really awesome first visit to New York! Hope to visit again! Full time residents/neighbors very friendly and provided helpful information-a big thank you to them as well.

Beautiful Brooklyn Brownstone!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely historic brownstone in the heart of Brooklyn! Our family of 3 loved this apartment. It has a good layout, is very spacious with beautiful high ceilings, hardwood floors and natural woodwork throughout. A true gem! The apartment is also very well appointed with all required amenities at hand. The home made banana bread and fresh orange juice on our arrival were greatly appreciated! Evenings in Krista's Parlor Suite were also very relaxing after long days of sight seeing. We felt at home!

The location is fantastic! Subway access, shopping , dining and numerous local activities are all reachable by foot. Though I do suggest purchasing a 31$ weekly subway ticket when staying a week or more. Crown Heights itself is also a beautiful area. There are many local sights well worth visiting! I highly recommend The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for pleasant morning or evening strolls.

Our host Krista was always available with quick answers to questions or friendly advice.

All said, we had a wonderful stay in Brooklyn and look forward to returning! Thank You Krista!

The connections with the Subway are convenient.
