About Krista Kujat

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, I moved to NY in 2000 to pursue my passion for acting in film & theatre. I fell in love with Brooklyn, and I dreamt of one day owning a brownstone. That dream became a reality 5 years later. I'm an avid world traveller & always appreciate staying in non-toursity, local neighborhoods, so it gives me a lot of joy to create a space for visitors to discover, enjoy the soul of my neighborhood. Several films have since been shot at this location, and I still get requests for film shoots here. Come experience the charm & write your own adventure in Brooklyn!

Krista Kujat purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Krista Kujat chose Crown Heights

I love the charm of old brownstones, and this particular building had the rare details in tact, stained glass windows, gorgeous wood details that are often destroyed when buildings are renovated. The location, just a 5 minute walk from the subway was also a no-brainer!

What makes this apartment unique

Gorgeous pre-war details, 14 foot ceilings, old world charm.... hipster neighborhood... just a 5 minute walk to the subway!

Stylish, historic but cosy apartment in vibrant neighbourhood

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I had a great holiday staying in this comfortable apartment in a super Brooklyn 'brownstone'.It was great to stay in a bit of typical NY architecture, so different from England and yet so familiar from favourite films and tv programmes. We loved the period features and elegant furnishings. The banana cake, milk and orange juice left for us were very welcome as we arrived quite late in the evening. Brooklyn is such an interesting area with lots to see and lots of good cafes. Thank you, Krista, for your informative guide and list of recommendations. Getting into Manhattan is quite easy and cheap, using the subway or

buses, but we did use taxis during our first couple of days when the rain was torrential! The pale green Brooklyn taxis are plentiful and the drivers helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and only wish it could have been longer! We would love to return one day........! Thank you Krista and Candace.

Enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

After a long day of traveling we greatly appreciated the homemade banana bread, orange juice, and milk that were waiting for us upon arrival. The apartment oozes with old world charm and everything was in working order. Gracious living space but most of the rooms are in a straight row as depicted in the blueprints, meaning you have to walk through one of the bedrooms to get to the kitchen. Not great for privacy but fine if you are a close family. The neighborhood is a bit rough around the edges but lively in a good way with many fun eating choices and inexpensive grocery stores nearby. The subway station is a few blocks down the road and lower Manhattan is just a 15-20 min. ride away. Our family of five (including 9 and 11 year-olds, and a grandmother) had a great time and would stay here again.

Owner's Response: For anyone interested in getting to know the neighborhood more, feel free to check out the video we made from the apartment to the subway. You can find it on Youtube by searching "Franklin Ave, Crown Heights 2014". Hopefully this will give you a feel for our mixed working class neighborhood with an artistic, hipster vibe, including fun restaurants and bars. You won't find anything overly pretentious or posh here...just good vibes. We love it.

Great apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were perfect for the 3 of us (our adult daughter stayed with us). The neighborhood is quiet, safe and neighbors were very friendly and welcoming. The apartment was large enough and very functional. Krista was very easy to work with, always professional and responsive. The location was perfect, a half block from Franklin Avenue with lots of shops, restaurants and grocery stores. The subway station for the 4 line was a short 5 minute walk away. Very convenient for getting around. A great overall experience and we will definitely be back.
