About Carrie Counihan

Our family purchased this property and have continued to upgrade the grounds and cabins. It is located in Ephraim which is a charming town on Eagle Harbor off of Lake Michigan. The summers are active with water sports, art and music festivals and beautiful places to walk and hike. Ephraim was named the #1 Small Town Destination in Midwest Living Magazine.

Carrie Counihan purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Carrie Counihan chose Door County

Ephraim is the most charming of the Door County Villages and has the longest water frontage to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets and water sports. Kayaking, power boating, sailing, kiteboarding are only a few of the offerings here. Sailing into Ephraim from a day on the water has to be one of the most picturesque views we know.

What makes this cabin unique

Our property is 1 block from the water and in the heart of Ephraim. One can walk to the restaurants, library, post office, shops, beach, kayak rentals pier, sail cruise pier, sailing lessons dock and even to our local coffee shop.

Very cozy

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time, such a quaint cabin with all the modern conveniences. Secluded yet close to town. We enjoyed having our morning coffee outside at the table and chairs provided. A beautiful setting. Only one complaint, our last day we had brown water which we assumed was from the water softener needing salt. Tried twice to make contact with the phone number provided on the cabin wall but no response, maybe due to the holiday weekend.

Great spot!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here this past weekend and loved it! Perfect location with easy access to all of Ephraim. The cottage is on a wooded lot with many windows. It is a studio w/ room for 3 to sleep in the loft. At first I was little put off about bringing my own linens but actually really liked it - I'm a germ freak so I knew they were clean :). My only recommendation would be to make sure you bring a bath mat/towel as the bathroom floor got pretty slippery when wet. There is no AC but was very cool when we were there as it was pretty windy. The one thing I would like to see added to the property would be another mirror outside the bathroom. The bathroom is a little small so getting ready would be easier if there was another mirror. We will definitely be back. We did not hear the people in the other unit at all.

Perfect Door County Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at The Pine Cottage in Ephraim was perfect. This cottage is so conveniently located in the peninsula as a base to all of Door Counties activities. The cottage provided everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

Fun Weekend Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this cozy little cabin for a long weekend with our dogs and had a great time. We wanted a centrally located cabin as we had a lot planned and wanted to be able to get from bay to bay quickly & this couldn't have been a better location for that! Just a block off the water, we were within walking distance to the visitor center, eateries and a few shops. The cabin had ample parking and was very clean. It is very small and if we go back I think we would check into the other side of the cabin as it has the bedroom separated from the living area. This cabin is just 1 big room so you ended up sitting on the bed to watch tv and do everything else.

The adjoining cabin was rented for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed and you could hear some noise back and forth, not a lot but muffled voices and furniture being moved. We didn't spend a ton of time in the cabin so for us this wasn't an issue.

The cabin had all the amenities you need and we will look at renting one of the sides of this cabin again!

Thanks for everything

Spruce Cabin was nice and modern, very convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cabin, very clean and clearly recently updated. I would return, but not with a group. The description of the cabin should indicate more clearly that there are no bedrooms here-- it's one big room, with a loft, so if you are with a group of couples like we were it wasn't very private. Also, please note you must bring sheets and towels more prominently in your communications-- it's my fault, but we learned the hard way.

Owner's Response: The following description is sent in our original inquiries for the cabin: "Just so you are aware, the cabin is actually two separate halves, each with their own entrance and outdoor seating area. They are similar to open concept, studio style apartments. There is a queen bed for sleeping on the main floor and then a sleeping loft, accessible by steep ladder, with twin mattresses on the floor for additional sleeping." We hope this describes the unit clearly for guests. Both on the vrbo site and then again in our confirmation emails we include the information "and just a reminder, it states this on the vrbo site, but guests are to bring their own sheets, blankets, towels, and linens." We hope to be very clear in our correspondence so that guests know what to expect from our rentals.
