About the property

Log Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8), Mountaintop views

Log cabin features fantastic views, with privacy on a serene mountain side. Be lulled to sleep by the cool wispy mountain breezes and the sounds of the river down below. On the covered back porch, relax in several log rockers and watch the clouds float by and the ever changing skyline of the Smokies. B-B-Q your catch of the day or your favorite meat on the grilll; or enjoy picnic on on the Amish picnic table on the back porch. Hikes up and down the mountain display laurel, wildflowers, blue & black berries private road. We regularly seen flocks of wild turkey, deer, rabbits & other wild life.

Plenty of comfy furniture to laze away a rainy day & listen for the dramatic raining sounds over the metal roof on the big rocking porch. Cozy up in front of the stone fireplace. 2-Satellite TVs with DVD & VHS with library of kid-friendly movies. There is limited wifi available; contact owner for specifics.

Just down the scenic 4 mile road past two amazing waterfalls (pictured below) is the launch site for rafting the Nantahala. Just 4 miles the other direction is the beautiful Nantahala Lake. Three rafting companies conveniently close to drive. NOC approximately 6 miles from river launch site. **Note, the steep inclines on our gravel, mountain road were just recently paved which should make our road passable by any 4-6 cylinder vehicle.

About Judy Oakley or Nan Oakley

We have 5 children, and our 6th has 4 legs. Owning this cabin along with the grandparents has allowed us to experience the majesty & beauty of God's creation. We love to whitewater raft, hike through the mountains, and cook s'mores around the campfire. Being from "flat" FL where the seasons or either hot or cold, we wanted to experience mountains, real seasons, and the breath-taking colors of fall. Watching the sunset on our back porch is also a highlight. We love it here, and want to share the experience with you.

Judy Oakley or Nan Oakley purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Judy Oakley or Nan Oakley chose Smoky Mountains

We're close to the put-in for whitewater rafting. Numerous spots to hike are nearby. Its a great place to let your children run and explore the great outdoors. And get away from the business of life, relax in one of the rocker on the back porch, sip a cup of coffee, and enjoy your family.

What makes this cabin unique

Our family loves the outdoors and the incredible sites in the mountains. There's white water rafting, hiking to see breathtaking waterfalls & the panoramic views at the tops of the mountains, gem mining, tubing in Deep Creek in Bryson City, horseback riding in Robinsville, and much more. Catching a glimpse of 'real' deer has been thrilling for my children. This is a peaceful & friendly town. We enjoy it so much and want to share it with others!

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

We decided we wanted to spend Christmas in the mountains and we were not disappointed by our stay in this cabin. One of the best mountain views I have ever experienced at a cabin. The cabin is in a very quiet setting. No one bothered us at all. While there is a cabin just up the hill from this one, you barely even knew anyone was there. The mountains are gorgeous, the drive up is like a postcard and we enjoyed one of the best stays we have experienced in this area. The cabin is very quaint and family-oriented and the kitchen had just about anything you would need. I only have three recommendations for anyone looking to stay here. 1) Don't hesitate because you won't regret it. 2) Be sure you take everything you need because the location is kind of remote and it's no easy jaunt into town if you forgot something. 3) Utilize either a four wheel drive, an all wheel drive vehicle, or at least one that is weighted evenly as we had issues getting up the last hill to the cabin in our Toyota Tundra after it rained. Our kids, in their Kia Sedona van, made it just fine though. Again, the even weight distribution is the key, or all wheel drive at least. Stay here! You won't regret it, I promise!

Everything I could have asked for and then some

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? There are so many things to tell and so much gratitude to share! First, the area of Nantahala River and the Gorge are unbelievable beautiful! Wayah Road is I think one of the most stunning drives that I have ever experienced. Literally at every turn in the road my breath was taken away and I was left in awe. The cabin, my home away from home was perfect. It was everything that I had dreamed it was going to be. It was cozy and comfortable, we did not need for anything during this stay. The view, was perfect in every way possible. How did I get so lucky to find this cabin?

Location, Location

We loved that this cabin has a perfect location and is pet friendly. The cabin is very secluded, quiet and comfortable with a kitchen that is well equipped. The owners are very nice and very helpful. We rented the cabin for the month of October and it was fantastic. There is a beautiful view of the mountains from the porch and lots of things to do. White water rafting, kayaking, zip lining, hiking and beautiful drives are within a short distance. The changing of the leaves was spectacular. We highly recommend this cabin for those who are active or those who just enjoy reading and sitting on the porch enjoying the view of the mountains. We did not have any trouble getting up the road in our Dodge Ram 1500 which is not 4 wheel drive.

Excellent Place to Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I rented this lovely modern cabin for a guy's weekend of kayaking. It's located very close to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. It's even closer to the put in locations for the Upper Nantahala and Cascades. If you are seeking a warm, inviting, cozy, and quiet place to stay...this is your place. It truly has everything you need for a relaxing weekend. Did I mention the views from the back deck!! Sitting on the porch when the sun's coming up and going down feels a little bit of what heaven must feel like. Book this place and you won't be disappointed. I will echo the one description to utilize an all wheel drive or at least a rear wheel drive vehicle to assess the cabin. To access that much charm and peacefulness though, one must get off the beaten path a little.

Perfect vacation getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed over Memorial Day weekend and it was wonderful. We spent most of our days at NOC whitewater rafting, kayaking and hiking. But we enjoyed our evenings at the cabin. My husband and I had the downstairs bedroom and the view every morning was spectacular. The cabin is very cozy and was just perfect for our family of 5. The only downside, if there is one, you must have 4 wheel or all wheel drive to get up the hill. Otherwise, we had a great vacation and I would highly recommend the cabin.

A great quet getaway

  • 5 of 5

I have rented this cabin 3 times. Great place to relax---beautiful views off the wide deck..rockers to enjoy and watch the sun set. We enjoy the outdoors--so can go explore the area and have a great place to retun to at the end of the day. The owners are easy to work with. Try it out. You'll enjoy it.
