Charming and comfortable Albaicin town house tastefully decorated and furnished in a traditional Spanish way with a Moorish flavor. The 'World Heritage' Albayzin/ Albaicin is the oldest and most beautiful part of Granada. Local Flamenco artists play in the bars & plazas . The house has spectacular views of the Alhambra and Generalife -back dropped by the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

Due to the southerly aspect the house is filled with light. From the top terrace there are panoramic views of the Alhambra palace the Albaicin and incredible sunsets.

The house has all the modern conveniences on offer, like a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms, central heating and air conditioning . About Sarah McNulty

We are a family of 4 inc two teenages. We moved here in 2001 and haven´t looked back.We came for some adventure and a good- hearted place to bring up our kids & have not been disappointed.

The beauty, culture and history of Granada has kept us stimulated and we have all grown to love this place ,its people and the lifestyle .

Sarah McNulty purchased this townhome in 2003

Why Sarah McNulty chose Granada

We were stunned by the beauty and feel of the Albayzin on our first visit.Later we started to inquire about houses for sale. Our house was the first one we looked at and the search stopped there .It was only a shell but it had & has an atmosphere hard to capture in a photo. The previous owner was Laura de los Rios the niece of Garcia Lorca- Granadas famous poet. She bought it for its light atmosphere and privacy all rare qualities in the houses here.

It is our desire to live here in the near future. A thank you to all our guests for helping us in this quest.

Also we are very lucky to be able to drive to the door of the house as the Albayzin is a restricted zone & many of the cobbled streets don´t have access. To keep it quiet & traffic free our street has a barrier that is up between 11am -2pm & after 8pm( you can always exit!)If you arrive during these times just park up and walk down to the house-When the barrier lifts you can bring your car closer.

What makes this townhome unique

The Caves which would have been the original house . They are always cool in Summer and warm in winter we are very lucky to have them as an integral part of the house .

Our house is only a few minutes from the city center but above the pollution Also a few minutes from the sierra behind the Albayzin -for endless walks or cycling.

The incredible sunsets.

Love, love, love this place!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this apartment. It is one of the most unique we have ever stayed in with the cave rooms. The location in the Albaicin was great for going out and exploring the area. We enjoyed eating at the Moroccan restaurant near Mirador de St. Nicholas. Even though it was raining and chilly when we were there, the chess and Scrabble boards help pass the time. The view of the Alhambra was amazing, especially at night and early morning. If we return to Granada, we will seek this apartment for our accommodation again.

Charming home with lovely views

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I stayed in Sarah's townhouse for three nights. We selected it based its proximity to the Alhambra, its spaciousness (our own room, plus some!), and the terraces. We were not disappointed.

Sarah greeted us upon our arrival and was very responsive when I called to report that an internet repair company was outside, asking to be let in. She was also present at our departure, which was appreciated.

The home is located in the Albaycin. Luckily, we took a taxi in, as I doubt we would have been comfortable navigating the neighborhood's very narrow streets in a rental car. The house is well-located for those who like walking or taking public transportation. We never got on a bus, and instead chose to walk to the Alhambra and City Center (15-20 minute walks involving a considerable incline, so be prepared for a bit of a hike).

The house itself was charming and comfortable, and the view from the upper terrace was a delight. We enjoyed drinking a glass of wine and eating dinner while watching the sunset. We also managed to do a couple loads of laundry during our stay, which quickly dried outside.

To note: The neighborhood can be rather noisy in the evening with the sound of conversation and barking dogs. And those who don't like dirty feet may want to bring a pair of house shoes/slippers as the floors can get quite dusty. Finally, it would be great if there was a suitcase stand or something similar in the upper bedroom. There is a wardrobe that is useful for hanging clothes, but I ended up pulling a chair from a lower floor to set my suitcase on. These were little things - if I was to come back to Granada, I would certainly stay here again.

Year in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We feel extremely lucky to have been living in this house for the past year. The moment we arrived we felt instantly comfortable and amazed at the house and the views. Throughout the year, Sarah and Bert have been the best landlords, providing us with information and everything else we needed for our family of four.

This little corner of the Albayzin was perfect for us. There is a real quiet neighborhood feel here compared to the more touristy areas down the hill. We walk everywhere, so a car is not necessary (parking is not available in the Albayzin). The nearby Plaza Larga has tiny shops and markets with almost everything you could need. It's very easy to walk to all of the tourist destinations, or just sit on the patio and enjoy the view.

A little tour: The door from the street leads up stairs through the lush patio garden. The house door opens into a dining room large enough for six. This is where the brand new wood-burning stove has been installed. It quickly warms the downstairs (supplementing the gas heaters), but also cleverly heats the bunk-bed room and master bedroom.

Off the dining room is the living room and first terrace. We spend so much time out here it's like our second living space/dining room. It's almost always cool in the summer evenings and comfortable on all but the coldest winter days.

The kitchen is at the heart of the house. Even though it's small, it has everything we need, and is cooled by the cave rooms. We used the cave "living room" for a kid-playroom, but it also has a sofa bed. The bedroom was used on the hottest nights or for extra guests. Having a cave is not only interesting, but functional. It is a constant temperature and cools the downstairs surprisingly well in the summer.

On the second floor is two bedrooms and a bathroom. We used one for an office/guest room. The internet connection is fast enough for remote work and streaming movies. Our kids (9 & 11) comfortably shared the bunk-bed room. Their bathroom is large and has a tub.

The third floor is the master bedroom, our favorite place in the house. It has it's own bathroom and large glass doors opening out onto the terrace. Waking up to a view of the Alhambra, Generalife, the Albayzin and iglesia San Salvador every morning is beyond incredible. What a way to start the day.

Whether you are looking for a weekend rental or a year-long adventure, you will love this place as much as we do. Your search ends here!

A Superb Short Break

  • 5 of 5

We loved the whole style of the house. There is a superb view of the Sierra Nevada and the Alhambra which we gazed at every evening with our drinks on the upper terrace. The cave bedroom is unique! No one in our party of 4 actually slept in there but it added great character. The location in Albaicin is perfect. As soon as you step outside to the narrow cobbled streets, you feel that you are in the heart of historical Granada surrounded by old cave dwellings, charming museums, tapas bars, flamenco music and traditions and of course the absolutely stunning Alhambra. Sarah was very helpful with providing local information and restaurant recommendations as well as being very welcome and accommodating on our arrival and departure.
