About Vilay Marchal

My name is Vilay. I love Paris especially the Latin Quarter. I live here since 1981 but I used to be a traveler once ! I will be glad to great you and give you useful tips to make your stay as nice as possible depending on your interests ! My 2 boys, Aloun 35 a professional dancer, Nayan 25 grew up in this nice and safe neighbourhood.

Vilay Marchal purchased this apartment in 1981

Why Vilay Marchal chose Saint Victor

We are located in the center of the ancient and most beautiful part of Paris, The Latin District. It has a beautiful and green environment with 3 main gardens : Jardin des Plantes at 50 meters, les Arênes de Lutèce the roman arenas at 50 metres, Jardin du Luxembourg at 10 minutes walk, Notre Dame and Bastille are at 10 minutes walk. We also have a very good transport connection : 2 metro lines (7 and 10) and Le Louvre or Opéra are at 12 minutes away by metro. It also has 2 bus lines which allows a direct connection to Bastille, Marais, Louvre or Montmartre.

What makes this apartment unique

We are located near the Campus of Jussieu. The neighbourhood is typically French, lively and cool. Lots of cafés, restaurants, street markets etc. The French writer Georges Perrec used to live at this address ' 13 rue Linné ' and Douglas Kennedy's novel 'The woman in the fifth' took place here too. The apartment has a flowered balcony and a nice view. It's at 10 minutes walk to the Seine where you can stroll or jog or enjoy dancing rock and roll or Tango during the summer evenings or have a picnic there and visit the free open air sculpture museum.

Vacaciones en Francia en familia

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four adults rented this apartment for 7 nights. We were very happy with our stay. The location was just perfect, close to restaurants, shops and Metro. It was very easy to commute to Paris' main attractions. Jussieu station is about a minute walk from the apartment (if that). There's a small grocery store down the road. For more variety, just walk a few minutes to Rue Monge and you'll find a bigger Carrefour and Franprix stores.

The apartment had two portable air-conditioning units - one in the lounge, the other in the main bedroom. The kitchen was well-equipped. The washing machine was in the bathroom. The apartment had practically everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We only wished that there were more lights in the bathroom as it was rather dark. Note that the apartment is on the 5th level with about 70 or so stairs to climb. There is a small elevator which really helped with our heavy luggage, or for days when we've been walking all day and just too tired to climb the stairs.

As for the owner, Vilay was excellent to deal with and very prompt in responding to emails. It was a shame we didn't get to meet her, but we did meet her son Nayen who was very nice and welcoming. Vilay also provided very clear email instruction on how to collect the keys. There was also a folder on the dining table with info on the apartment, area, public transport etc (make sure you read it).

We would definitely look up this apartment the next time we are in Paris.

Our home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable apartment and convenient location. Quick access to bakeries, restaurants, cafes. There was a great small store down the street for groceries! There were 8 of us and there was plenty of space. Plenty of beds to accommodate all of us.

Short walk to the metro and other attractions.

We cooked a lot of our meals, the kitchen was well stocked. I was very grateful to have access to a phone to call the U.S. Wifi was very helpful. Vilay, the owner, was away when we arrived but she provided us with specific instructions on where to pick up the apartment key and how to access the apartment building. I must admit, we were very nervous to not have anybody waiting for us or to greet us but everything went exactly as Vilay instructed. I will definitely stay here again if I ever get the chance to go back to Paris. I'm very pleased to have chosen this apartment as our home away from home.

Comfortable and well equipped for a family stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights in this apartment in July with our children aged 5, 7 and 10. The apartment is in a good location as mentioned in other reviews with buses and a subway station at doorstep. Sights like Notre Dame or the Pantheon are within walking distance with young children, who can also enjoy the "Jardin des Plantes" located 200 meters away or "les arenes de Luteces" (which is a antique site from the Roman period with a playground) when it is time to relax. Add to this that the landlord has let many board games and books for the tenant to use, and that convenience/grocery shops are open every day at doorstep, it is needless to say that our stay was extremely practical and enjoyable for the whole family.

Comfortable space to unwind and relax

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights in mid-May at this apartment. The apartment was very user friendly. There was lots of space, comfortable beds (the pull down bed was unique and practical), and plenty of hot water for showers. For those looking for some exercise, it is over 90 steps from the ground floor to this 5th floor apartment. But, for those who don't fancy the climb, it is only 2 steps to the elevator. The location is within sight of a metro stop, a short (10 minutes or less) walk to the Seine, and surrounded by cafes, restaurants, shops, and grocers. The balcony offers great views of the street and neighborhood. If you close the windows, you shut out almost all of the street noise.

The owner was very easy to work with. He provided clear instructions on how to access the apartment, made some money-saving suggestions on transportation options, and provided a detailed guide to the apartment (how to operate the appliances, tv, washing machine, etc.). It was easy to log on to the WiFi and the signal was strong. For those traveling from the US, having a telephone that could be used to make free calls back home was an added bonus. When you stay here, you are treated like a trusted friend. The flat is full of books, records, tapes, musical instruments, pictures, and unique art work. When we are next in Paris, if this property is available, we would definitely want to stay there again.

Very comfortable apartment in great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Five of us (women, 50-66) shared this apartment and using fold out furniture we each had our own bed. The pull down bed was a very creative idea and worked fine for us. We made use of the boulangeries and patisseries in the neighborhood, and each afternoon met back in the apartment to share stories over wine and cheese. We walked almost everywhere but also had quick access to the bus (right out the front door) and metro (2 1/2 blocks). We were also a half block from a botanical garden which we explored on our first day - very calming after a long flight. It was also good to come home after an evening walk in the neighborhood, to Notre-Dame, or through the Latin Quarter and have the kitchen available to brew a drink. Vilay delayed her trip so that we could meet when we moved in and was very helpful in explaining the details of the apartment. Our only recommendation to her was to add American-style living room chairs (easier to get out of) but all-in-all we had a great time in the apartment and will recommend it to friends coming to Paris.
