Perfect Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Nothing but great things to say about this cabin and Marlyn! The pictures just don't do this special place justice. It's secluded, but close enough to town - we even walked in one day. There's tons of space to accommodate a big group both for sleeping and spending time together. Marlyn was also a pleasure to book with - incredibly responsive and full of helpful information. Can't wait to go back in the summer to use the backyard and pool!

GREAT house for a weekend trip to Woodstock

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful long weekend at the house with 12 adults and 4 babies/toddlers (all under the age of 3). Each family/couple had their own bedroom with plenty of space. The large living and tv rooms gave everyone a lot of room to play, lounge and watch TV. The kitchen is also very spacious and is equipped with everything you need to cook meals for large groups and the dinning table was a perfect size to eat meals and play games. The rooms upstairs were loud, especially the room that doesn't have any real walls. I would recommend bringing earplugs and an eye mask (there aren't curtains on the windows either) and anyone who might wake up early should stay in that room. The day room, which also serves as a bedroom towards the back of the house, has no window treatments either. The beds were older in that room, and not as comfortable as the other rooms in the house, but still worked for our large party. I might recommend bringing an air mattress just in case. All in all, it's a great house, with beautiful views and a lot of land to walk around outside on a snowy day. The house was so much nicer in person than the pictures. You need a 4WD to get up the hill if there is any snow on the ground. A great weekend trip with friends and Marlyn (the owner) was so accessible and answered all of our questions.

100x Better than the pictures suggest!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely Amazing! From start to finish the communication with Marlyn was outstanding. She answered all questions immediately & courteously.

The pictures in the posting are outdated as I noticed changes made to the property that didn't reflect the pics, but they are for the better I can assure you. Plus, this house deserves to be shown to perspective renters in the best light which these pictures unfortunately do not depict.

The drive up to the house late at night was a little sketchy, about a half a mile down the hill was the only close neighbor we could make out but you know you are headed in the right direction when you pass this house with its dismantled old trucks on both sides of the narrow road. The road continues to taper as you climb up the bumpy dirt path with no street lights. Our GPS said we were at the house when we weren't so u kind of drive a little blindly but eventually will find the house enveloped in trees.

We had a large group of 13 people ( incld 4 couples) and had a blast bringing in our belongings &scrambling around the house to decide who is sleeping where - reminded me of the show the Real World.Even after we all found our beds there was plenty of couch space that could have been used. I noticed some reviews mention a loud upstairs bedroom which actually didn't bother my husband and I. The second bed upstairs only has this panel screen divider which has very little privacy but it works anyways. Across the living room are the other sets of rooms w/ a plethora of beds. The sunken TV/Reading room has a huge sectional couch with a flood of books. The flat screen 52 inch TV helped our Sunday football itch. Refreshing Sunroom. The fireplace set a comfortable mood. The huge firepit outside was loads of fun. We brought firewood but there was plenty available. The porch the wrapped around the house w/ tables &chairs scattered was truly magical in the mornings taking in the fresh air having a cup of joe &enjoying the moment. The kitchen was amazing with all necessities (pots, pans, utensils, toaster, coffee brewer..) the basketball hoop, tennis table or pool didn't get used but next time for sure! The town of Woodstock was 5 minutes away and was super cute, we shopped and walked around. Groceries & alcohol are available too.

Amazing, memorable, so much birthday fun with great friends who are already planning the next trip to this truly charming getaway!

Great Summer Rental

  • 4 of 5

This was a great rental. The house and property were very large and easily accommodated our group of 14 adults. We had 4 couples and 4 singles and all of the couples had their own rooms and all of the singles had their own beds throughout the house.

The pool was great and the cover was extremely convenient. We grilled every night and had a fire going in the pit. If you are looking for a trendy/modern rental, this probably isn't your bag since this property isn't new or modern but it is well maintained and very comfortable.

True to the other reviews, the rooms upstairs are loud and if you are a light sleeper, I would opt for one of the other bedrooms in the back of the house. There were some cute restaurants nearby (although we didn't go into town much), as well as river tubing and a rescue petting shelter.

The one small negative was the winding road leading up to the house, at some points its seems like the roadway has worn away and eroded and especially driving on it at night (with no lights on the road) was a bit scary.

Finally, the owner was very accommodating and informative. Truly a great rental experience. All of the guests had such an amazing time, we are considering going back next year.

A great week!

My three kids, my husband, and I had a wonderful time at this home. It's a rambling house on a mountaintop --the views are amazing. Owner was very responsive and patient with my many questions. Thank you! Amy

Just What We Needed

  • 4 of 5

This is really a wonderful house away from everything. We organized a get together for 10 friends and the owners were completely accommodating. Since none of us were couples no one wanted to share beds, the owners of the house volunteered to bring out a few extra mattresses to help us out. After that we enjoyed the view of the fantastic Woodstock countryside and sat around the fires we made. We were probably a mile from the nearest house and the woods were wonderful to go wandering in. We were also about a five minute drive from the town of Woodstock to get groceries and wander around.

The house itself is well stocked with kitchen supplies and leftover dry goods from previous renters. The grounds are wonderful and spacious. It's a little confusing to get to (about a half mile down an unpaved road) but once you're there you don't want to leave. And the owner was very responsive to questions beforehand and helpful answering any questions we had while we were there.

The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star review is that we went in the middle of April so the pool was closed. A real bummer. But in the summer that would totally make this place 100% great.
